CLC5850 Posted September 21, 2022 Share Hi there. I had this happen to me and in our group with many kilometers done no one had. The guy who supplied to me said he sees it all the time! I was rather surprised and I wasn't down to steel on steel with my brake pads. So I am interested to know if others have seen it. Cheers In my 22 years of riding, I've never seen a rotor break. Was it worn down to the point of breaking off? How old is the rotor? How many sets of pads did you go through in the lifetime of this rotor? Edited September 21, 2022 by PhilipV DieselnDust
kingalton Posted September 21, 2022 Share supplier says he sees it all the time?? time for a new supplier.. this should NOT happen all the time.. Steven Knoetze (sk27), TheoG, Hairy and 5 others 5
CLC5850 Posted September 21, 2022 Share My feeling exactly. Somebody at the Cyclelab workshop said he had which surprised me but one of the others at the store was also gobsmacked at the failure. TheoG
CLC5850 Posted September 21, 2022 Share I don't know what the rear rotor make was. I was entrust it to the experts but it had been in for a major service not long ago.
BaGearA Posted September 21, 2022 Share I have seen this but that time the pads were metal on metal , the rotor was below 1.5mm and the hub bearings were toast  i.e. regular maintenance was not even a thought MTBRIDER1234, Steven Knoetze (sk27), ChrisF and 2 others

May I also suggest that if you have the same brand rotor on the front, to take it to a real LBS, remove the rotor and replace both the front and rear with a reputable brand rotor. Marcv Posted September 21, 2022 Share hey Is the hub tight? i.e. the wheel can't move from left to right? i'm thinking maybe you braked in a corner and the wheel pushed to one side and that placed some sideways load on the disk which then sheered off. TheoG Posted September 21, 2022 Share 1 hour ago, Tomik said: Looks like Baradine. https://shovacycles.co.za/product/baradine-160mm-brake-rotor/ Never even heard of this brand. Also in my 55 year old life never saw this failure. Agree with the other comments, get a new supplier and more importantly get a known brand. justinafrika, M L, MTBRIDER1234 and 1 other
Psyrax Posted September 21, 2022 Share This looks like it was worn down at the caliper to so thin it sheared off. Not defending the brand, but it looks like caliper or worn pads. Jbr, BuffsVintageBikes, Steven Knoetze (sk27) and 2 others 3
Furbz Posted September 21, 2022 Share Do the pads line up correctly to the breaking surface of the disc? Â Looks like they may have been a little low? mazambaan, ChrisF, Hairy and 1 other

vanniri Posted September 21, 2022 Share Not relevant to this particular case but incorrectly installation of the rotating direction easily results in the rotor collapsing on itself. The one in the picture seems correctly installed. Looks like the rotor was worn due to some misalignment of sorts ChrisF, Danger Dassie, Steven Knoetze (sk27) and 2 others
