Hi Guys

I sweat excessively when exercising. As a result my cycling shoes gets soaked and I have a constant battle keeping them dry and smelling like a daisy.

How do you keep your shoes from stinking up the place?

And how do you get rid of the smell once its there?

Really need some advice, as this is placing strain on my marriage 😉

Leave your shoes in the garage or somewhere with plenty of fresh air, stuff them with newspaper to absorb the sweat and chuck the paper away after a day or so….do not leave them in the bedroom 😂

take out the inner soles and use a spray bottle to spray vinegar (or a dilution) into the shoe and onto the inner sole. a diluted solution may help to not 'eat' at the shoes too much.

i took to wearing my takkies without socks and they got pretty vile. vinegar sorted it right out, and left my feet smelling not likes daisies, but rather like slap tjips.

have you tried washing them...?

Alternatively, if you're water wise and don't see the need to waste water on cycling shoes you can buy large silica filled drying bags at SportsmansWarehouse and Diskem (@ places I 've seen them and have a set from SW from like 2004) Pop them in the microwave for 4 min to dry them out and then into your shoes. mops up those odours.

regular sprinkling of baby powder also helps

few options- go to the nearest rock climbing store. Rock climbers don't wear socks so it is common to have smelly shoes.

I have also found to point a big fan upwards and place the shoes upside down on the fan to dry quickly between rides. I used to do that a lot with enduro/MX helmets. Muc off makes a helmet foam, it will work on shoes as well. Foam it up and leave it on the fan for an hour or 2.

Thanks for all the great advice, especially newspaper and bi-card. I think more regular washing will also help, was worried weekly machine washing will stuff them up.

I find that I really sweat on the stationary bike during the week so some shoe TLC in the week is needed.

Mine still look very good. The only bits that are beginning to look worse for wear are the soles where the Spank Spikes grip them into oblivion.
