It’s been overcast, misty and with rain throughout most of the day. We gapped it at around 11:30 down (up) the road to the local Hilton trails that start and finish next to the Grace school.

It started precipitating again as we got to the start. Decided to try the 18km blue route CCW.

What a bunch of fun!

The trails were damp, but not wet, with the odd slippery as snot root. I soon got used to these, and managed not to butt-clench everytime the rear steps out slightly.

The nature of singletrack for me is, chasing up the climbs to keep the momentum for the next little section of singletrack flowing down...this often had my HR flirting with max, with the legs shouting for more oxygenated blood.

It really was the most fun I had on the bike in a long while. Even though conditions were a bit sketch, It really was great.

Pretty scenery as well.

Buffels turned out to be even muddier than my cradle excursion. They had some rain the afternoon prior to our ride, but sections of the trails were wet, properly

still ok here..

The “bushveld” is quite tropical at this stage...hot and humid

Some of the rideable mud...

I really enjoy buffels, a challenge each time.

Today,

what started out as a recovery ride, ( this was day 4 of riding, up from 0 last month) soon became a sprint towards the end, to catch some e-bikers on the singletrack - childish, I know.

tomorrow is rest day for real, as we travel to the midlands.

Interesting way to mount your computer

I guess that protects it a bit more when you take a tumble, or is there another reason?

No space on the stem to mount it.  I’m also not mad about the “out front” on the MTB because I have “incidents “ quite often.

The standard garmin handlebar mount is too floppy, as it moves around too much for my liking with the o-rings.

one of those top-cap mount jobbies would probably have been better, but I’m a cheapskate, so I’m using what I got in the box.

Bit of a lazy day today, so got started really late, also, there was a lot of heavy mist this morning ( thats my excuse)

Decided on exploring some trails adjacent to to where we are staying. ( Plotted a route using strava heatmaps., which turned to crap at the first opportunity.

Karkloof tomorrow, depending on how much rain falls tonight/tomorrow morning.

(current beer consumption is pretty high - but this will have no bearing on the decision to ride in the morning....)
