Will be interesting to see this unfold...

Struggle to see how they will manage a marathon route around CT, Table Mountain. Will be awesome if they pull it off.

It will never happen, but Karkloof in KZN is the perfect venue for a UCI Marathon World Champs.

PMB hosted both an Elite and Masters World Marathon champs a few years back.
SA has a good track record of hosting World Cup and World Championship events.

Grandstand are my first choice.

Grandstand are my second choice.

Wonder how the tender went. A lot of work required to get a marathon course on table mountain, guess it will be a really hilly route. Sanparks will be a pain if they need new trails.

BUT trying to be optimistic here, really hope this is the key that unlocks the amazing potential for a true circular route around the front table

Yeah much of the obvious route but will this route fly as significant distance is on tar?

Beers does this route on his recovery rides 🫢

The only real stretch on Tar is Chapmans peak drive up to ou wapad. And its not the worst stretch of tar in the world. Ideally you can find some way to go off road again from Noordhoek to Ou Wapad, without having to resort to the single-track that is already there next to the road.

The rest are only short tar connections and the Promenade, which would make a stunning last 3km, so think its less than 30% tar all in.

Also you have Hamilton's sports fields right there to use as the race village.

That last section on Signal hill will be hard, going down Pat's Track after 3200m of climbing isn't a recovery ride, even for Mr. Beers

What's the alternative? 5 loops of the Epic Prologue? No thanks.

I Don't think a full loop is really viable. I can imagine it will be more a case of linking the Front/Signal hill/Deere Park with Tokai/Silvermine and everything in between.

I can't imagine they will throw them over Chappies/15 plus km of tar road in one go.

But I will wait and see. Often the speculation on things like that is completely different to the final product, so I'm happy to forget about it for a few years and re look at it when it happens

What is exciting is that having the Marathon worlds here also means the rest of the cycling disciplines World Championships will/could/should be in Cape Town...........?

I imagined that it would be hosted out of Town where there would a bit of space and logistics and road closures would less of an issue.
Perhaps using some of the Durbanville/Tygerberg trail network or similarly the Stellenbosch area with its massive choice to trails there.
