Feedback from our valued 2023 Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg participants suggested that we could do better with our seeding, so we are making seeding one of our key improvement areas in 2024.

We have taken significant steps to ensure a more accurate seeding for participants in 2024, such as an increased weighting of your 2022 and 2023 Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg results in seeding calculations, sourcing of more road cycling results to count towards seeding, and batch communication through the Ride Joburg Portal will be earlier and more comprehensive.

We're committed to ensuring a fair and seamless seeding process, along with bigger batches and earlier start times - we hope you’ll be joining us in 2024!

You spoke, and we listened! We're thrilled to announce exciting updates for cycling clubs and groups this year. Clubs and teams will now have exclusive access to book demarcated gazebo spots, offering prime views overlooking the finish line, accompanied by a variety of delicious food and refreshing drinks available for purchase.

Additionally, we invite you to join our Cycling Club Captain's initiative launching in April, fostering camaraderie and support within the cycling community. Furthermore, we are elevating our Train Joburg initiative in collaboration with Virgin Active to provide safe training in their gyms, and outride options for all participants.

We look forward to working more closely with cycling clubs and teams in 2024, to enhance the experience for all!

There will be weather that day for sure.

Hopefully the weather gods smile on us again this year, I'm aiming to take 17 minutes off my previous time.

Going to do it on the MTB, help others and stop for every beer and tequila stop.

  • I will enter around the closing date for online entries.
  • I will most likely ride with the same friends I ride with on weekends; maybe be their domestique.
  • I definitely won't be racing, but we all know what happens when a race number is pinned on.
  • I'm training as if I will be racing in the semi-serious bunches even though it's the "non-serious" year in the 4-year cycle.
  • I will most likely change my mind within the next 10-weeks, as there is no firm goal other than to take part, finish upright and have fun.
  • If the weather is wet = 29x2.3 tyres > 25mm, and if it's dry, the trusty steel steed, (with 700C-25 tyres) will be used again, like I have done every year since 2016.

My brother will be over from the land of the long white cloud. Him, myself and my son will be riding .... just stick together and have fun!

The opportunities for riding together are dwindling so gotta make the most of it 😎
