ACE Cycles is a one-man operation, founded, owned, and managed by me, Emmanuel Sequeira

I also established the ACE Cycling Club and served as its Chairman for several years.

Please note that the online forum should not be confused with the real-world cycling community.

awesome.

I don't think anyone confuses these two, where they overlap is probably a varying perspective.

bikehub had a reputation for being quite a wild place at times, okes from COFBA would gang up and try give you your opinion. That was kind of stamped out about a decade ago.

Why redact some details?

You're preventing a bunch of people from lining up along the spectator lines and throwing tomatos at the chap

Do you not know who the famed wood collector is? This oke has a reputation across continents, nevermind multiple forums.

DM me if you want his deets. POPI says I can't share it on the interwebs. Or at least, that is my interpretation of POPI.

I know who the chap is, perhaps it would have highlighted more to his ways

Yeah, popi act is a weird thing, i see why you redacted the names. No worries though, the results will be handling that for you

A lot of online discussion has moved to whatsapp.

Which is not as powerful as a forum, especially for longer running discussions but for many it is just a convenience thing.

(does my trail running group need to debate headlamps, AGAIN?!)

I hate whatsapp. And I love it.

Hate because people add you to groups that start off being informative and eventually the chat just gets overloaded with multimedia of various degrees of annoyance. Plus, some people have taken to doing voice notes on a group chat, which I find quite annoying. But at least I don't have to read through their k@k grammar/spelling.

And nevermind how many relationships Whatsapp have destroyed, but that's a completely different topic.

Love, because whatsapp phone calls is the absolute business. I don't even remember how much money I spent on phoning home from the UK in 2003/2005. Whatsapp (among many other options) have made this problem a non-starter. Calling my bud in Dubai for a quick howsit is just so easy and basically free if I'm at home.

The mods on these Whatsapp groups don't take k@k either. If you chuck in a meme of poor taste, you get removed. No questions, just koebaai, and generally this "threat" keeps people in line. This part I like.

I'm enjoying the 'new' transcribe voice notes feature on Whatsapp

Imagine the guys at Grandstand are trolling him? Just took his money and he rocks up to the registration and they tell him he's not on the list.

If I was one of the many, many people still owed money by this guy, then I'd kick up a fuss that he's now doing this very premium race and can no longer claim poverty. What he is done is bad for the industry and this is a public way to bring that all to a head.

*Then again, maybe his lucky partner fronted up the cash and the mighty B has promised his share of the ticket for the past 6 months already, but you know "things have happened".

Somewhat back to the topic, it seems its not just an experience shared here on LeHub, there's a similar thread on the Wild Dog forum. Maybe it's not a cycling thing, but a human thing. I dunno... If people just treated each other as they would like their sons/daughters be treated, I guess we might get somewhere.

Hubbers on the 4x4Community forum will recall the same type of thread popping up there every so often.

It is just part of the passing nature of social media.
