that is a hot squad.

Good to see Jay Vine returning to a GT, he probably had the biggest injuries at that crash in the Basque country that took out remco/jv et al

well there you go!

the Cheese is 401/1 to take the GC win, behind even WvA

For some reason Meintjies struggles in the first week of a grand tour. Not sure why that might be but you usually see him at the back of the peloton looking like his hanging on for his life. Does not matter if the road is going uphill or flat. He has a strange way of racing.

It doesn’t help been part of this new amazing generation that is mysteriously doing even better than dopers ever did! Even Lance “I took Alot” is fuming….🤭

WvA winning a stage in Red!

He has been hunting a flipping stage win so long it must feel good. May the floodgates open for the rest of the year.

It is great to see him regain his form. DO you think he might fancy going for a Top 10 finish?

I'd say it is highly unlikely that he(WvA) will consider going for GC top 10.

My reasons:

-Sepp Kuss is there as GC hopeful for Visma. (WvA will have to do it donkey work for this)

-Too much climbing this Vuelta. Total elevation gain is way more than we just saw in the TDF. His build doesn't suit it.

-WvA chased the Intermediate Sprinters points yesterday.

His priorities coming in was likely:

Couple of days in leaders jersey.- CHECK

Stage win - CHECK

Sprinters Jersey - Main focus now

Work for Sepp - Will do when Sprint points are sorted.

Visma's team is arguably stronger than the one they took to the tour, apart from the leader. I have not checked the profile of the race. With the final stage being a TT, I thought he might be up to it but did not realise the amount of climbing in total. What is that figures for interest sake?

did not have to google it to know that there is more climbing! but on checking it is indeed shorter and steeper

Start was inside a Supermarket today....

Use the word Carrefour in a sentence:

They must be carrefour (careful) not to slip on the wet, floor tiles

What a ride by Ben O'Connor!

How did the GC favourites let him get away in the break?

Anyway, will be interesting to see if he can take red to Madrid.
