Can anyone shed light on how the mechanics work on the route?

My daughter had a puncture last year: she got to Simonstown but the mechanic  at the Jubilee Square water stop was far from user friendly.

Fair enough to pay for parts although, making that cash only seems wrong? However in a location that is completely run by volunteers the "mechanic" refusing to help her without getting R150 in cash first seems a bit excessive? Even a card or electronic payment system would be better - at least that's trackable.

Was this right or was she just an easy target as a 13 year old girl?

Sunday .... let's see ... 🤣

Right now ... PERFECT WEATHER 😍

the last 2 forecasts have been very similar, so its getting a little more consistent.

But yeah, this is cape town, I'll pack my Gilet and Sleeves just incase.

How do these last minute entries work? Can one do a late sub at the expo? Thought not, so are these people riding with other people’s numbers?

As far as I know it's a lifetime ban for both the entry holder and the person pretending to be that person.

They cite safety reasons ie in the case of a crash/medical emergency all of your medical data is linked to your number board, so the medics will use that info should you be unconscious etc..

Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question. I saw that there will be around 300 riders in the @ group. Is that standard? Seems like a massive peloton.

Yes - unfortunately Cycle Tour doesn't take age cat racing seriously. Will be a massive (and dodgy) bunch till around Smitswinkel with a lot of people there that don't really belong in age cat racing.

Around Chappies the actual racing starts

Super well organised in terms of collection of course. Good parking for bikes and cars.

Goody bag is pretty much meh, with maybe 2 items I would use or try. Expo was I thought a bit light with a weird mix of things. Monton has a big stand. Ciovita has a huge setup, with all the tour stuff being their stuff as well. When I arrived I was a bit hungry, so did a quick walk through and then found the Kaui had a bite and then did another couple of walk throughs. But definitely much less in terms of stands. Weirdly no Sox stand, no 100%gloves- glasses yes, gloves no. No Mucoff, no assos…only bike brand was Cabal. I am a huge Garmin fan, found their stand a bit frosty though, not friendly at all. The highlight for me was having a long informative chat with Mark from 32GI at the Dischem/32gi stand. The downside, other than the definite reduction in exhibitors, was the incredibly annoying shoe cleaning product sales guys that seemed to have multiple stations/locations all over and were determined to get me let them try their stuff on my shoes. By the 40th no thank you I started getting a bit twitchy.

this! they must go jump in a lake

Checking the contents of my Race Pack envelope, it seems like I might miss a few items (if memory serves me right from previous year's envelope contents)

There was the Number you attach to your jersey, 2 x cable ties, 4 x safety pins, a blank "number board" (where your race number gets stuck on and then attached to your handlebars), and the plastic sheeve with the "can you see the cyclist" info. THAT IS ALL.

Quite sure the printed stickers with your race number you put on the plastic board on your handlebar and your medical info you attach to your race number on your back is missing. Or have things changed?

I did not check the race pack when they handed it to me, as it was quite busy with people collecting their race packs, and a person would trust that all the items you need will be included in the race pack.
