Add the One Tonner to that list. 👌

Is the 1 tonner the same as the Boland 100 Miler? In 2021 I actually took a 10 minute rest on the Boland 100 miler at the base of the last climb - DuToits kloof. I phoned home, ate some banana bread, chatted to the ladies at the drinks stand and then limped up the climb. I was dead on my legs. My average speed was around 28.5kph for the whole ride, but I went up Du Toits at 10kph max.  That event was given a beta value of 1.30 and that ride alone was enough to get me seeded in 1A at the next CTCT (2022), with an index of about 22 IIRC.

This year I gave the Winelands and 99er everything I had, finished with the front groups for both and managed to move my overall seeding index by 1 letter, from something like 35 to 31. Started this CTCT in 1D.

So listen to this man 👆, and don't put all your eggs in the 99er and Winelands baskets. Rather do the boland 100 miler where you can eat banana bread on the side of the road for 10 minutes and still end up in 1A.

This is a good strategy to game the system. If you have a gravel bike , gravel races also give you a better beta and that will bump your seeding.

Exactly! When I started cycling in 2018 I did a Kerk bazaar MTB race in Worcester that gave me a A-batch seeding for Karoo 2 Coast. And from there a 1C seeding for CTCT.. and 2h52 on my first Argus haha.

Less and less opportunities for upcountry riders to get seeding races.

I moved to SA recently (Joburg) and have done a few events / races around here. The only ones that turned up on the PPA seeding were Ride Joburg (started from the back so it was a solo time trial) and Ride for Sight (finished with the leaders of A group). Not sure what else I could have done?

The use of times, when cycle racing is about position also seems strange.

I won't be finishing with the front groups, but I will have a look at the above.

I will see how things line up re dates and times and try to get to 1 tonner is fighting form.

Sorry, to be 100% clear I was referring to the PPA road race: https://pedalpower.org.za/events/onetonner/

Generally, if you do well in a "tough(er)" race, the better the chance of improving your seeding.

All good - my mistake. I had always assumed the 1-tonner was just some nickname for the 100 miler but just reading now I see they are separate events.

@Bro Derek your main take away from this should be that there are in fact not 1 but 2 races where you can sit on the road side eating banana bread and still get in 1A.

Hats off to the people who supported the buggies it takes alot of extra effort 👌🏻

Buddy of mine pushed a buggy as well, we looked at your handle bar and said, damn, why did we not thought of that!

Also planning to make improvements to the buggy, even just some minor suspension will go a long way to make it more comfortable for the rider inside.
