Please note 1 member pledged - and paid - R5k, so its possible to return some funds to him, but over to the Hubbers…

Pay back the money (in comic sans).

But keep your artist on stand-by...

I am glad to hear that everyone kept their promises.

My first inclination is to give the balance back to whoever made that big contribution.

If he does not want it back, then let it go to a bike related project or charity. I don't know if he still does, but Prince Albert Cycles used to sponsor a bunch of youngsters from our hometown to ride the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Something like that can change the life of a platteland kid!

And again, Zebra, a little bow from me for what you did here.

Right. As of Wednesday, 01st October, i have either R2.5k else R3k OVER, so far, in my account, after paying the Muralist.

I will give it say 1 more week for any other pledges to trickle in, and then this R2.5 or R3k + any other pledge received (will do a recon…) needs to ‘go somewhere’, to a good cause/charity/memorial, etc.

Please supply ideas on WHAT to do with it; i would like it out of my account by say the 15th October, latest.

Please note 1 member pledged - and paid - R5k, so its possible to return some funds to him, but over to the Hubbers…

What about a painted list alongside Dennis' mural where we record the names of our deceased cycling friends and family - a Wall of Remembrance would make a pretty strong statement.

That mural is a really great tribute!

What about using the remaining funds for a similar mural for Calib de Kock in Sea Point?

Either here (not first choice, private property permission required etc)

Or preferably here on the side of this building (more impactful with the foot traffic on the prom, and screw the permission just ask for forgiveness afterwards).

Having said that they have just completed some new murals on other buildings on the promenade so perhaps getting permission won't be such a.... mission (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1F58fCFaSQ/ )

Ok, so 15th October is here, and I have around R4k ‘surplus’ donated funds after completion of the Dennis H. project.

I spoke to Arno/Prince Albert Cycles, who does have a charity, yet he himself suggested why not donate to the Widow of the Olympic Cycles mechanic who was killed recently in a door-opening incident…

If no objections, I will contact Olympic Cycles Management, get the necessary details, and pay the amount over, to a worthy ’cause’.

Any thoughts, just let me know, else will do this by weekend at latest.

Thanks

An update - the surplus funds will today be paid to Danilo's widow (Danilo was the mechanic at Olympic who died in Claremont after being "doored" into the path of traffic). The Olympic guys, who have also collected money for her, tells me she is in Mozambique and our modest contribution is enough to pay for 2 months of groceries, so it made a (small) difference.

Good job and thanks for mobilising us and all the work and organisation this took @Zebra

Danilo's Wife - Regina Lucas- was paid R4000 into her account this morning, from funds left over from the other tragic passing (Dennis Hammar).

I know all your funds you contributed will REALLY help Regina is this time of her need - so many thanks, both to those contributing initially, AND then this excellent suggestion, that funds go to the widow of Danilo.

R.I.P. Danilo

I just drove past the mural and saw that it has been painted over???

@Andreas_187 are you double triple sure you were at the right intersection??

It's bare concrete and high up, can't just wipe that out by mistake.
