I’d still take the Colnago over this. Wouldn’t even ride it. I’d legit just leave it in my garage so that I could admire it every morning whilst I get in my car & go to work.

and this is why we are getting the ring torn on bike prices, your perceived value is way higher than the actual value so they have a market

I find the whole cycling snobbery and anti snobbery (is that a term?) pretty weird. People who look down on people with more budget builds are equally as tiring as people who look down on people who spend a lot of money on their hobbies.

If you can afford a 400k colnago, ride once a week and that's what you want then go for it 👍

@Dri I hear you, and I'm all for people spending whatever they feel is appropriate, but as mentioned in my post one can build a V5RS for less than what Cycle Lab has listed it for by ordering the parts and putting it together. The frame, group, wheels, and components don't add up to R400k. So the discussion is about the arbitrary way in which Cycle Lab has priced it.

@Paul Ruinaard your explanation makes the most sense to me - the point isn't that it's an expensive bike, the point is an opportunity to display that you bought something for R400k.

Thus, the fact that the price is higher than the some of the parts is the point. I think what's kinda sad about that, is that building something up from the frame used to seem the most exotic and thus prestigious way to do it, but was also the most expensive - sad to see p#$%ing contests getting unimaginative. Number go up mentality I suppose.

Love your sales tip by the way, appreciate it.

remember the importers are paying 15% duty when the import the bike albeit thats on the 'cost price'

the duty paid on the bike is equivalent to the price os some nice entry/mid level bikes

@rock Bruce Reyneke has the same Enve wheels listed for R69k and Bike Addict has Dura Ace for R64k that leaves us with R267 for the frameset and finishing kit (barstem, tyres, saddle etc.) which I reckon is a reach even for Colnago.

No disrespect, I'm a big fan, my favourite bike I've owned was a C60 and I'm obligated to tell you that by the Colnago Code.

That's a good point.

If the bike is worth R300k, but some knob with more rands than cents buys this for R400k without questioning it, then win win all round.

What you guys think this is worth - wonder what starting price was too?

Pogflation?

... So what is Cycle Lab doing?

That's really funny.

Part of me want's to apply for the finance option here just to deconstruct the silly numbers that would spit out - probably a balloon the size of TP's VO2max

The bicycle industry is a fascinating one, depreciate faster than the Hindenburg and what with manufacturers continuously updating models obsolescence occurs in the blink of an eye.

I look at the second hand market here and it’s depressing. Bikes that were top of the range DI loaded 7 years ago are now selling for less than 20 percent of sticker price with photos that clearly indicate low amount of usage. And, they generally not selling anyway.

yet the cycling shops are still open meaning folks are pulling the trigger on new.

And it's people's right to do so......

It’s all good, just means there’s great value when these people sell their current bikes to upgrade

hell, have you seen the ridiculous low prices on great rim brake bikes lately ?
Different topic but similar

correct

it’s not good for the economy to glance such high risk debt but it happens because the option is available. It serves to inflate prices or rather keep them buoyant instead of correcting the market.
in the US there is less of these financial instruments being utilised

I think that the cycle2work scheme is a big contributor to bike shops staying open over here. When the gov took away the max spend per bike, a lot of folks took advantage of getting higher priced bikes and paying them off over 12 months from salary pre-tax. I know a couple of dealers who are kept busy with cycle2work vouchers
