It looks like Lynnwoodroad becomes Graham Road when you travel east from Wapadrand there past Silverlakes.  I have never really liked that road ever even when the sun is up.  One always has to factor in the sun rising in the east and you become invisible to cars traveling east.

So before sunrise would propably not be so bad.  I am not taking security issues into consideration as far as criminal activity.  I do not know the area well enough for that.

Is it safe to cycle down Graham Road, Pretoria East in the mornings before sunrise?

Ive done many rides on Graham Road.

Ito security ill be happy to ride there before sunrise. Ill be cautious towards the cars. If you want to ride on the tar make yourself VERY visible

We ride there often, from Hazeldean Centre, all the way to the Boschkop turn-off, there is a wide dirt shoulder - plenty of room to stay far away from the tar. Never had any safety issues.

Jip, we went past on sunday as well.  you almost get the feeling these days you are just waiting for your turn to be bikejacked.

Yes there was. My brother's girlfriend and two other club riders were held up at gunpoint.

There was another bikejacking in Ferreira road yesterday (Hazeldean/Silver Lakes area) between the Storage building and the CRC Church. Guy was held up at knifepoint and bike taken. Bike was dumped 50m further.

Couldn't agree more.

And with the distances I'm currently doing I end up jist repeating laps in the areas that 'feel' safe

I agree. Cant go for long rides anymore, so I stick now to the suburbs and try to do multiple laps to get in the mileage

There's a few groups riding to Rosemary Hill in the mornings.  Not sure if they still do, but the group never had issues.  Will not recommend going solo in the area anymore.

Please use lights.  Remember your lid and get reflective clothing as well.  And watch out for the guys commuting.  They do not use lights or have any reflective gear on.  And some times you spot them when it is to late.

There has just been a second attempted bikejacking in Pierre van Ryneveld at the R21 bridge this morning.

Appears to be the same MO as on Sat but do not have any specific details.

Jip, it was me...

Around 5:10 am, we were two, coming from Mcdonalds side, and they tried to jack us under the bridge. we only saw one, but maybe the rest was still setting up the trap. My buddy was about 30 meters in front of me, as I was on a mtb he on a roadbike.

He managed to avoid the hijacker, and sped of, and I turned around and started sprinting away the way we came. Suspect #1 then turned his attention on me and started chasing me, screaming " I am going to shoot, I am going to shoot".

He came to probably 2 meters from me, so if he wanted, he could have shot me point blank in the back.

I set my new PR (seriously) going up the climb and stopped at the robot at hans strydom.

Glad to be alive!

went and opened a case before work, and gave it to the CPF leader in the area, seems they are planning to sort this **** out
