Gemini - Columbus steel frame.

Shimano 600 bits including post.

Cinelli Groove bars.

Time carbon 1" fork.

 

 

Photos a bit budget - will take some better ones.

Thought this was ironic that almost 7 years after Ryan completed his build of the same Gemini, I had stripped off the yellow paint and redone the frame with decals this time. A good frame is always worth treasuring

That's awesome, very much in line with what I want to achieve. Where did you get the threadless stem adapter? I'm keen on one, primarily so that I can have the option of fitting a modern flared bar.

Did you have the stays cold stretched to fit a modern rear wheel?

Please keep me in mind if you ever decide to sell it, I'm after a Gemini for my collection and that looks like the perfect size 😃

Yes, cold stretch the frame, you will have to re align the hanger after that. There is an adapter on hub under vintage parts.

ive read up on it quite a bit...and the general concusses is only steel frames- obviously. And then...if you are only going up or down one size (120 - 126 or 126 - 130 or visa versa), it's ok to just plonk it in there and fasten. so something like 120 -135 needs a cold set to get the dropouts at better angles.  The world will apparently not fall into chaos and disarray otherwise.

This gives you the opportunity to swop back and forth should you need to.  

when you consider Surly's "Knot Boost" dropouts this makes perfect sence. They for instance space their bikes 145mm so you can stretch it and put a boost hub in it...or clamp it and put a non boost hub in it.

I've spread quite a few frames the way RJ shows in his video, without any issues. Most recently the Tommasini Prestige that I did the Neo-retro build on 🤙 Always good to check the frame alignment and hanger alignment afterwards though.

But, although a12-speed uses narrower spacing() for the cluster, I still am surprised to see a frame being WIDENED (as opposed to narrowed…) to fit a 7/8/9 cluster?
 

thought it might be the other way around, clearly I got THAT wrong!

It was originally dubbed Iron Maiden, but after a robust discussion in my home about an unrelated topic it has been redubbed as "Ou Stuk ***".

Did a quick wash and chain soak in degreaser yesterday. Other than a gummy freewheel its remarkably sound for a 30+ year old bike that's been immobile for a numer of years.

Needs a freewheel and headset service, but other than that she runs like a dream. Some fresh bar tape (current original setup is hard as a rock), a saddle that isn't made for a waify thin bottom, and a fresh set of 28/30c rubber (23s are frighteningly hard) and she's ready to Fondo!

The proverbial cogs are already turning, and my excitement and plans are already outstripping my budget.
