  1. Mine come from, most of the things I've done which have endened in some kind of disaster, Were good Ideas at the time.
  2. This seems to be becoming an interesting thread. In regard to shop, The dodgiest thing I have ssen was one shop actually cut a headtube shorter to accomodate a shorter steerer tube on a fork??? I suppose this to can be a dodgy practice aswell pressing out shorter steerer tube with a press and re-pressing in new longer ones. What you guys/ladys (I don't discriminate) think?
  3. Aren't formula brakes and formula hubs 2 different companies?
  4. Post af few picture of the der that we can get a better Idea of how it look, Ypou'd be suprised how much sugar and road gunk can jam up a der try what I said and give it a good clean and lube with warm soapy water the warm water helps dissolve the gunk out of the pivot points and bushes.
  5. Sorry about that little bit of confusion I have edited my post accordinly. Been up since 4 am Sorry.
  6. Is it an air version? Then its easy simply get hold of a shock pump from a bike shop and pump it up according to the table on the fork leg. If its a coil version you will need to get a stiffer coil spring or add a preload spacer or 2.
  7. Usualyy its a combination of your supplements and dirt that jam up the mechanisms and make it stick, Clean it with some warm soapy water let it dry, you can even use an air compressor to blow away any excess moisture. Also check the cable is running smoothly through the cable guide and housings this may also get jammed up and make the cable stick. after all this is done (I'll probally get hounded here) but I use a little q20 in the pivots of the der to lube things up, please remeber q20 does atrract dust so use very little of the stuff and wipe off any excess. Hopefully this will solve this problem but also remeber there can be a whole host of things wrong this is just one of the more common ones.
  8. Pietermaritzburg Nationals, the rain made it muddy and the rear end the climbed ouy. The drive home sitting on it for 6 hours was not fun and worst was it kind of stuck to my shorts when I got home, Some fake skin and a few weeks now I have a lovely scar below my ass
  9. HAve a look at this thread https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/74113-fitting-truvativ-cranks-to-specialized-frames/ Contact morewoodkid somewhere in the above thread he mentions something about have an enduro kit coming in the next shipment. Hope it helps
  10. Suntour fork's dampeners are sealed cartiridges It could be blown or the bushes could be dirty I'd say take it to a shop and have them look at it
  11. What fork is it? Brand and model?
  12. Have another bike shop contact Cape Cycle Systems Speak to Ian
  13. If you entered any of the compettitions or ever filled in a questionaire or form and entered your email adress on the websites there is usally a little check box to either check or uncheck to be added to the mailing list. From a legal view point, this is an open forum, but you cannot make allegations with out proof or justification as the companies you unjustly named and shamed if they so pleased can cause alot of trouble for you I doubt they will but still. I'm on Biccicletas mailing list and they don't realy send out that many I rather enjoy recieving them as I then have a chance to get excellent product cheaper and all cyclist like to save money. Your post is unjustified and just plain childish, realy gettting a few emails from time to time is no reason to get upset.
  14. Get your lbs to order one from cycles africa Ringle Importer
  15. Could you maybe include a spec sheet, and a price. It would help us to form a better opinion I know silverback is good value for money.
  16. If possible post some pics of the actual bikes. But based purely on spec I'd say go for the Merida
  17. I would advise to add 1 more 5mm or 10mm spacer on top and further you can put spacer above or below the stem it doesn't matter. Hope it helps
  18. Pepper spray works well, got chased by a labrador and a dalmation the peoples gate was open and the old water bottle technique didn't work neither did the out sprint as the didn't realy give up lots turns so couldn't realy get up enough speed. A well timed kick to the head also works Don't get me wrong I love dogs My family has 4 of them its just we don't let them out to chase cyclists or runners
  19. Try these website links http://bike-parts.pricepoint.com/search?p=Q&ts=custom&w=mavic+20mm+to+qr
  20. My personal opinion would be go for the felt althogh it is more and it has a dart the R1000 extra is worth it components wise. Furthermore it seems the Felt is better in the following categories 1. Better cranks 2. Servicable fork and there are spares available, even thugh it is a dart 3. Finishing kit ( handlebar ect) 4. It is on the spec list as 9 speed the gt may have a 9 spd deore rear der but still runs 8 spd shifters ( just check with the shop) The Dart isn't that bad its an entry level fork but it is fully servicable and spare parts are available the suntour internals use a sealed non servicable cartridge which is inexpensive to replace but isn't all that great, bear in mind both forks are entry level. Hope it help, I always ssay buy the best you can afford at the time as its expensive to start upgrading compnents. Mecnic2010-06-08 01:53:53
  21. Maybe add a spec list and a pic of the 2 bikes, so that we can compare them
  22. I just take the pads out of the caliper, pull the lever to extend the pads out and rop a little bit of shimano mineral oil on the piston and then pushe them back in and clean upo any excess spillage. I'm not shure what lubricant shimano use if you have them sent in
  23. I would agree with Johan go for the recon, it may be more expensive but on a value for money basis it way way better than a Tora @ Mojo man, fork travelhas got alot to do with riding style and bike setup but in general it can be considerd 80mm = Hardtail cross country 100mm= Hardtail xc and full suspension xc 120mm= hardtail trail and full suspension trail 160mm= free ride 200mm= Downhill The above is just a rough guide, the travel must be matched to the frame and the angles the frames are designed around, you can't or rather not recommended to put a 140mm travel fork on a racing hardtail it would throw all the angle out.
  24. Handling has got alot to do with the geometry of the bike itself and your actual set up EG: stem length ect. I'm not realy shure if a wider tyre will help, I'm on 2.00 Larsen TT at the moment and the handling is great. If you do decide to put a wider tyre in just check frame clearence as it may be an issue. as the tyre could rub on the chain stays
  25. There had to be some heavy chemical reaction in there to cause a) The glue coming loose in the first place b) The corossion never seen anything like that before. Let me do some homework and speak to my friends studying chemistry maybe they have a theory
