  1. Oh cry me a river... on the other side of Stellenbosch there's land invasions and farmers getting shot but here we're concerned about one oke riding on a half built trail... let's get real peeps, there's bigger things to worry about in this country.

You don't grasp the seriousness of this. If someone is riding on a piece of land they are not supposed to ride they are just as guilty as those ones who are guilty of land invasions. Both are examples of TRESPASSING.

  2. It cost me R340 for 4 brake pads for my Pajero, and they last like over 20 000km and they stop a heavy vehicle in mud, rain, rivers etc. So R200 for mtb brake pads is a rip off.

A Dunlop or michelin tyre for my CRF250 costs less than a maxis crossmark 29er tyre, and there is a lot more rubber involved.

How much does the rent cost/m2 for a bike workshop vs car workshop and how many brake pads are sold per year for cars vs bicycles?

I follow what you say, but salaries for staff are the same for both sectors, but the market for bicycles are much smaller thus pricing will be higher to make up for the smaller market.

  3. Any chance to link the Hoogekraal/Fair Cape loop to the Meerendal through the back? I mean on the D'ville side of the mountain (where Durby Dash goes along). But Quarry would also work.

I know that is private property and Meerendal now have hectic fencing and gates....but where there's a will there's a way

My reasoning: the best way to get in an ultra long ride, without too much tar or backtracking would be this link to Meerendal, better hooking up Conties with Hoogies and Meer and opening up many more options.

Just a suggestion.....what do others say? Am i missing something?

There's an upcoming AGM, there is normally an opportunity during the meeting for general suggestions where you can put this on the table. Would be great to have this link.

  4. Used Stans for many many years and have been quite happy with it.

A few months back I came across a large bottle of Bontrager sealant and haven't had any issues with it yet in two MTBs, one of which is due for new tyres. It is cheaper than Stans.

Used the same to convert a pals Tokens to tubeless (road) using the new Conti 5000s. I did add a little glitter as a bonus. No problems so far although he hasn't done much mileage on them yet.

Bontrager is Stans or vice versa

  5. With the cyclists in double row they are further out into the road an therefore will be seen earlier whether you are speeding or not. If you see them earlier it gives you more time to slow down and assess the situation to chose a suitable moment to pass.

But hey I won;t let common sense ruin your day

Keep it mind (common sense) that there are blind turns. If cyclists are riding in double file around a blind turn and a car comes from behind, the moment the car sees the cyclists and the car's speed is high, i.e not enough space to stop, there are 2 scenarios:

    1. The car must get into the other lane.

    2. Hit the cyclists.

If the other lane has a car in, guess who'll be hit.

  6. Wait for it....

OP comes speeding along sees two cyclists speeds past and then blames the cyclists for dangerous cycling.. LOL

vehicle behind has the duty to keep clear and pass safely.

Can't believe so many motorists frequent a cycling forum

You need to read the first post again as your facts are all wrong.

  7. no one said what they did was right.

you coming on here bitching about it, is the problem, next time man up and have a chat with your fellow cyclists there and then, because coming on here helps nothing.

the only warrior here is you.

Thanks Van Biljon, at least I know you'll cycle in single file next time. Be sure to drive over the pass next time you are in our area. You'll see that there isn't a lot of space to just park somewhere and have a chat.

  8. Lol at all the warriors.

If a simple post generated so much flames from forum member imagine how much flames the cyclists in question would have spewn to me if I took up the matter with them there and then.

If they don't read it, they are the ones who'll pay the price. Many others have read it and will think twice next time they are on the pass or any other narrow piece of road somewhere.

  9. What does it help to come and moan here a day later? You are not saving lives that way.

If you told them at the time you would be saving lives. Now it just looks like you are a moaning

i would have wound the window down and and told them as I passed.

There are also many areas where you could have pulled over for a chat.....if you DID REALLY CARE

You have the right to your wrong opinion.

  10. Mr Titleist, as a fellow cyclist, concerned that their behavior might lead to injuries or death, did you stop to inform them that you find their actions to be dangerous?

Or did you just blast past them as as soon as the opprtunity arised, and as fast as you could?

If you did not take the time to inform them, why not? You were there on the scene, whilst this "crime" was being committed.

To come here and moan, after the fact, will not change their behavior, as they are wholly unaware of your rant here.

I thought you Wannabe the one to break the news to them. Especially since you can find space on the pass to park and have a chat to them.

They will read this, I'm positive.

  11. I drove from Villiersdorp to Franschhoek via the pass yesterday and came across a female cycling team/friends going towards Franschhoek in DOUBLE file, right of the yellow line, up the pass. And a mens team towards Villiersdorp also DOUBLE file, right of the yellow line, up the pass.

Now I know it's convenient to cycle chatting with your friends in double file especially on a day like yesterday i.e hot, no wind, views to die for etc.

    BUT

The pass is NOT made for cars and cyclists and trucks especially when cyclists are riding double file doing 20km/h or less. There is an on-purpose (not accident) waiting to happen. If  you cycle double file you are putting yourself in danger on purpose!

Come ladies and gents, we all put in hours worth of training, it's not worth losing your skin and maybe your life cycling up blind corners right of the yellow line.

  12. Sadly I disagree! I had a Trek Superfly and the frame broke. Rear chainstay to be exact. First time, well yes was over the moon because they replaced the frame for me. Well Guess what same thing happened again and same place and within a year of getting the replacement frame.

This time because I no longer had the purchase receipt and even though they had done a warranty for me previously they refused to warranty even saying it must be the way I ride. But it appears to be a fairly common problem if you just googled a bit....

Wouldnt even do a crash replacement at a decent price.

So no I am not so over the moon with Trek/Bontrager warranty. And this is coming from someone who up until that point only purchased Trek bikes. Needless to say that was the last Trek I bought or will ever buy again!

But their T’c and C’s require a receipt. If you can’t show one, how can they be guilty?
