  1. This is starting to sound like an event that must go on my to-do list
  2. I dont understand, we rode heavy single speed bikes and didnt die
  3. I just want to know what all the upgrades do as I have no clue about these things
  4. Will do, thanks. Biggest reason keeping me from patching is having to remove the old snot balls from the beads of the tyre before re-assembly.
  5. bloody irritating. I thought I was sorted, but now there is 80ml of fresh Enduro Seal on Atals Rd. Atleast the plug got me home last week Sunday when I picked up the puncture, so I guess it did its job.
  6. So why do plugs not work on a road bike but on a car which I would imagine sends way more stresses through the tyre they hold forever ? They always seem to break the seal when you're out of the saddle putting the power down. And its not like my scrawny tired old legs put down alot of power either. I've got a tube in there at the moment, when I have the time and energy I may take the tyre off and try to patch from inside, or I'll ride it like that until I need a new tyre.
  7. Winter solstice ride. got very misty in places
  8. the leaking transmission fluid is unforgivable.
  9. I read your rant before you removed it. Not trying to defend them, but some explanation. The manufactures states doing xyz on the car takes x amount of time. But because the technician is experience and efficient (or possibly doesnt do everything) it take him x-y amount of time. But they are not allowed to charge for less than x amount of time for the job, so that it what they do. Almost the same as visiting your doctor, he sees you for less than 15 minutes but charges for the entire hour.
  10. Speedy recovery Dale. Hope to see those great outdoor cycling pics again soon.
  11. I’ll use your thread to share my good people story from today if that’s ok with you. also standing on the side of the road fixing a puncture this morning when a couple in a car stopped to make sure I was ok and if I needed a lift or anything. There are still good people around.
  12. Big Red Barn Tough ride, was looking forward to the tailwind down atlas but the bike had other ideas. As I got out of the saddle to power up the overpass the seal on the plug I put in last week let go. Was going to put a new plug and whilst trying to insert it the bead pulled away from the rim. So had to put a tube in.
  13. There is no previous model of what he has. Brand new platform and it was the first car to use that platform.
  14. I used to open the cover to the sunroof in order to remember.
  15. I read that discussion when it was on. In this case it happened in my work shed in my presence so I guess I can’t 100% put the blame on him.
  16. Cost me a chain breaker last night. well not a buddy, but my neighbors son. Used his BMX as transport. Wanted my help to fit his new chain last night, no quick link and also no new pin, so was trying to use the old pin. needed some extra hands to try and get the old pin back in, asked him to tighten the chain breaker whilst I tried to hold the rest in place. thread went in skew, he carried on tightening and stripped the threads. fortunately not an expensive tool.
  17. My theory on this. Yes I want to get out of there ASAP, but, I also want something left in my tank should I need to up the pace some more. therefore I tend to ride at only a slightly faster pace, so that I can still be very aware and still have reserves to GTF out of there should I encounter something.
  18. cyclists next to a drug store - nothing to see here folks just move along.
  19. My opinion for the little its worth. Matt and Nick want this site to go in a certain direction, but need to keep a balance of the community vs the commercial, I personally think they're getting this balance wrong and if they overshoot to much in the wrong direction it will be very difficult to bring back the community aspect. In the past Bikehub classifieds were known (even to non forum members) as a place to get a good honest deal on a used bike, it has moved away from that. But thats my opinion. The argument of starting a new thread to ask about a deal only apeals to a very small % of people. I know of people who didnt even want to register on here to sell something and got someone else to do it for them, they'll never start a thread asking about a purchase. And those that frequent forums on the net also know that starting new threads on something that might have been discussed before is frowned upon. You get reprimanded and told to use the search function. I havent seen this behavior to much on BH but I have seen it a few times. This discourages newbies from starting new threads. Heck, just before the petition thread got nuked I asked about a mongoose BMX price. Not because I wanted to buy it but because I wanted to educate myself as the price seemed high. It would have been pointless (IMHO) to start a new thread just for that. I no longer browse the classifieds either as I know anything that was posted with a bargain price has been snapped up before I can get to it and will be reposted the next day at an inflated price.
  20. Nailed it. First puncture in about 12000km. Nail in the one side. I heard the nail ticking against the bike about 2km from my folks place. Forgot to check when I stopped by then, jumped back on the bike to head home and it was tic tic tic again, so pulled over to investigate and I see a nail in the rear wheel. pulling it out resulted in the obvious blast of air, but it turned the wheel so the sealant could get to the hole and the Enduro seal did it’s job. but as a safety because of the size of the hole I put a plug in. Pumped it up with my Lezyne pocket drive and I was off. except now I had tic tic tic from the plug sticking out to far, so pulled into a service station in Wadeville and borrowed a knife from their kitchen to trim the excess off the plug. A week off the bike had helped. Whilst I still felt the effort, the body was more willing to push through to greater exertion.
  21. I'm fitter than I've ever been on the bike, but because cycling (and walking at work) is now the only exercise I get, I'm not as strong. I used to do lots of water skiing, had legs that would scare rugby players. (or its just old age and self preservation. )
  22. I did CTCT 2 years in a row with the gearing you have. Not sure how I turned those pedals with the levels of fitness I had back then. But I was young so I guess that worked in my favour. Could never think of turning those now. Edit to add. I later changed the smaller chainring to a 34 and the larger gear on the cassette to something bigger that I cant remember now.
  23. In principle I'm fine with mandatory club membership. Provided though the club offers some form of value. And I'm talking value to cycling as a whole not just to the member. Far to many people have taken up cycling and enter races but have no idea of etiquette or skill. If by joining a club they get some sort of coaching to gain these skills then its a win. But as has been said, to many social clubs around and not enough mentorship to newbies.

    The Dad thread

look at the name, look at every variation and nickname associated with that name. Look at how it works with your lastname. Look at the initials. Kids can be cruel, and in school they will pick on anything, names are one of the first places they start. I'm always amazed when I come across a name or name combination that makes me go "what were your parents thinking?"

This is actually very good advise. And dont take falling very literarily, falling could also mean failing at some task.
