  3. Can already picture the 28mm tyres fitted to rims with 40mm internal width .... skewe side walls ...
  4. Also look on the Temu thread ....
  5. Only practical difference being the ease of loading the bikes ... or not ... When I had the roof rack on the RAV4 I had to use a 2-step ladder to get the bike high enough for that last tilt and fix .... in terms of that the load bin "bike loading" will be so much easier. Then again ... once the racks are over the roof ... the bakkie can still be used as a bakkie ... too many choices ....
  6. Are you old enough to worry about your knees kreeking louder than the bike ?
  7. The overhang to the back is not an issue ... not when you consider the new height of your loaded vehicle !! You cant park in a garage, or enter a a parking structure due to the height constraints ... so the bit of extra length is not a big issue.
  9. As a first timer a few things to note: . Entry fee . CSA (Cycling SA) day licence, just tick this box and add it to your basket when registering . Timing chip ...just tick this box and add it to your basket when registering. This gets cable tied behind your seat tube. . Seeding is plubished, and emailed, the week before the race. As a first timer you will start in the last groups, roughly 8.00 to 8.30. . Avoid the groups ... hang back or get past .... . The VIBE .... NOTHING can prepare you for the stunning vibe along the route !!! ENJOY !!! . Bike ... you will see any and all types .... just enjoy what you have. . Race numbers .... big number goes on your back .... sticker number on your helmet .... another gets cable tied to your handle bars. . EXPO .... Make sure to have enough time to soak this in .... . Parking ... early racers already got the other parking .... drive straight to Parcade 2 of CTIC ... the vibe starts here 👍 short cycle to the start Dont over think it .... just go for it and enjoy thee best VIBE All of this and so much more is on the information pages of the CTCT website 👍 EDIT - Here is the info on their webpage - https://www.capetowncycletour.com/events/the-cape-town-cycle-tour Scroll down and watch the rider briefing video
  10. photos are good 😝
  11. To the workshop stand .... It has become a habit to give all my bikes a full service at the start of the year ... making sure everything is sorted for the World Champs season. . Gravel bike .... servicing a one year old is always easy .... more of a deep clean . Hardtail ... This is my Argus bike, so needs to be tip top shape ... I bought it as a demo and have done 11 000 km in 5 years on it. The steerer bearings is noisy, I could not get spares last year ... chain on that cusp of early replacement .... wheel bearings cleaned and repacked. Brake pads about 1,5mm, okay, but dont want it to catch me off guard the night before a race .... brake discs, ooooops !! Below the Shimano minimum .... brakes works fine, but there IS a reason for the minimum disc thickness ! I have had brakes overheat, then just loose all braking on a steep downhill ... nasty off and a few hours in the medic tent .... weeks later it was traced back to discs that were worn below the minimum thickness. . Full suss .... not too much I can do .... from the suspension to the sealed bearings are all done by Mark. Yes, sealant clean and top up for all.
  12. It is the World Champs season 😋 Wat n voorreg 🙏
  13. I use 11 speed Shimano drive train on our bikes, typically XT. Mostly with KMC 11 speed e-bike chains.
  14. Wel gedaan 👍
  15. PERFECT weather to wrap up the year's riding in the Western Cape. Nice friends to enjoy a long zone 2 ride. Life's good ....
  16. So if you cant get this ... the question becomes what to get .... There is an ever growing following for removing the chain and waxing it in a pot of molten wax .... If this sounds like way too much work, then do consider the SQUIRT LUBE. I bought their e-bike version at the Argus expo, just because it was seriously discounted and thought it was worth a try. I used Smoove before that, decent product, but does not last long on extreme dusty rides. Literally had to stop mid-ride a few times to re-lube with Smoove. SQUIRT e-bike lube has been flawless !! Two of e-bikes nearing 10 000 km each on the chain and drive train. 1. Full suss - after various stage races and close on 10 000km ... chain is now showing excessive wear on the chain gauge. I wanted to rotate chains (this was early on), but the front ring was noisy on the new chain, so I swopped back to the original chain and cassette. When it starts making a noise the complete drive train will be replaced. 2. My hardtail is used mostly on the road, with very short gravel bits. Also close on 10 000km on this chain, and less than 0,5% wear Pro's- Affordable Easy to apply Durable drive train Con's- It can cake up a bit on the ring gear and jockey wheels. Really easy to remove during a normal service, thus not an issue for me.
  17. Nice bike 👍 I took videos of Maritz going up a curb ... with a suspension fork and without .... the wheel stayed in contact with the surface so much better with the suspension fork.
  18. As above - where is the pain ? And when ? "Inside" of the leg ? "Outside" of the leg ? "IN" the knee ? When sitting and pedalling or when standing ? Road or MTB ? Those with more experience in this field will need more detail to try and assist remotely .... There can be so many causes - - Bike fit ... let's trust this was done properly - Cleats as @cadenceblur pointed out (this should have been sorted in a comprehensive bike-fit ... but not all bike fits are the same ...) - ITB (which often is the end result of other root causes) - Torn meniscus (my torn meniscus only hurt on one ride, but caused a whole chain reaction of issues including ITB before being diagnosed - Muscular ..... the body is an amazing structure and can be a nightmare when something goes wrong, especially in the muscular system. OFTEN the root cause does not hurt, instead the body tries to protect that specific spot by over compensation in other areas ..... before long you start getting pain in certain areas and the treatment for that area does little more than temporary relieve, as the root cause is not addressed. Thankfully my treatment for my torn meniscus landed me at a good biokineticist ..... been an interesting and education journey !!! DISCLAIMER - the diagnoses and treatment for a young fit and strong athlete should be reasonably straight forward .... things gets a LOT more interesting when you are older and out of shape ... fixing one spot inevitably refers to the next week link and the next and the next .... if "you" (general reference, not aimed specifically at @Navias007 , are out of shape it is well worth in vesting in a few sessions with a biokinetecist or even a good personal trainer .... getting "your" body back in shape is the best investment to stay of niggles and issues on the bike
  19. Roads were empty .... only a few cyclists ... and even less vehicles. Discovered a nice coffee stop in Stellenbosch .... CANYON ...
  20. For secondhand .... reach out to @RobertWhitehead He is a local legend in building custom bikes to suit riders and budgets .... Some have driven to him to pick up one bike .... and left with two .... @SilverRider @Scary Rider
  21. The family drive to the sea-side a couple of times this season .... (we are locals and only a 25km drive to the Blouberg) N1 .... mostly well behaved. But every single trip there is that ONE @55hole that races well over the speedlimit and weaves between all three lanes .... you see the missile coming up in your mirror, darting left and right .... thankful when it gets ahead of you safely, then watch the dodgems play out one near miss after the other .... Back in the 60km/h zones .... same story ... mostly very well behaved. But every so often there is that ONE that just has to do double the speed in heavy holiday traffic ..... These drivers has zero respect for other cars. Pedestrians and cyclists certainly dont even enter their non-existent thought pattern .... As much as I want to comment on the taxi that goes left into the "cycle lane" (wide yellow shoulder) along Durban road then blasts across a RED robot at more than 80km/h ..... sad reality is that I see more locals in their cars jumping the red robots .... It is looking like a YouTube crash compilation waiting to happen out there !! SURVIVE Hubbers, just survive this mayhem ....
  22. Taking this one step further ..... Would be interesting to check the costs and options to: - buy the "battery", but have the cells removed, thus only buy the shell AND the BMS (battery management system) - then have the battery re-packed on this side.
  23. I sent you a DM with the file.
  24. Slightly lower, but same stem shear effect ... Happened while topping up the pressure before a commute .... turned into a frantic change of plans for the morning.
  25. Arni you might have to be a LOT more specific in your request. Giant e-bikes also use the Yamaha motorrs and batteries. BUT, the physical shape, size and method of attachment differs between models and years ... and when you find the right battery for your Giant bike, you still need to specify the frame colour to get the correct outer shell for the battery ..... They put a lot of work into making this as difficult as possible ...
