  1. I owned two recumbents concurrently; a Linear LWB folding, Under-seat steering, and an Orange GT STREET MACHINE, bought locally, sold both, heaps of fun, but Hout Bay ( think Suikerbossie + Constanta Nek+ Chapmans Peak) we’re not the EASIEST routes on a ‘Bent! In the USA, I took to U.S.S. like a duck to water; thankfully it felt so very natural, never battled, and I prefer it to above-seat-steering. I lived 2 km from a 40km ex Railway track that was rehabilitated as a jogging and cycling lane (good, smooth, hard-pack). I could easily get up to 40km/hour on the flat, and slung a long wooden train whistle around my neck, which was hyper-realistic sounding…. when 5 chatty Ladies were walking 5-abreast a cross the trail, I would blow my whistle say 300 meters away, and although they KNEW trains no longer ran, they would JUMP aside, then give me a thumbs-up for such a good ‘bluff’…! both bikes are still around CT, I believe, and 2 people well verses in Bent riding are Tim Brink, and a Trike and Bent importer in Noordhoek, will look now for his contact details. would like to try your bent sometime, where are you located? cheers Chris
  2. Unsure about BICYCLE panniers; I import MOTORCYCLE panniers for a living; 25% duty from EU, 30% duty from USA, we do not import soft luggage from China, presently. cheers Chris
  3. I hear you - this glue is likely 10 years old; I actually do not usually battle with removing the glue, but this has 'set'.... ....and in addition, these tubular tyres are PRE _ GLUED, with a system that attaches them to the rim, an improvement on the older way where the WHOLE tubular was glued on, etc... thanks for hint about Casper - was unaware, I will Google him now.... Cheers! Chris
  4. Hi all- have removed an older TUBULAR - meaning Glued-on - MTB tyre off of a 26'er Carbon Fibre rim - see pics - and obviously do not want to negatively affect the integrity of the CF, so keen to hear which SOLVENT I could use to remove the H-A-R-D glue? It will not roll off with rubbing with my thumb, like back in the old Triathlon days, - this glue has SET, and is VAS! (pic 1 shows old glue. pic 2 is of clean section. pic 3 is the new Tubulars i have for the rims. pic 4 is of the complete rim (i have front & rear...) thanks CHris
  5. And seems extra worrying that it was a gun-jacking; I have been run-jacked for my cellphone 12 months back, perp used a long screwdriver sharpened to a shiny point, which is bad enough, but a gun seems like a whole new level, somehow. will avoid that area. And Ocean View. Chris
  6. I bought one of the ones shown in the first post, today, at the Bike Park shop in Constanta Uitsig. R160; they fitted it in addition to repairing a tubeless valve I had damaged. Tokai, Vasbyt was strangely much DRIER than I had anticipated; I had bought the mudguard just 30 mins before expecting heaps of mud, and it was actually fairly dry out! washing the bike afterwards, the mudguard had done a pretty good job, I felt I would have been more muddy without it, so it gets my (used once) vote. must say,I was VERY impressed by the service I received at C Bike Park shop; phoned them yesterday, needing a new tubeless valve fitted, and whilst I helped in stripping old tyre and cleaning up the rim, they discover 2 or 3 real issues that needed attention, I concurred, and they had me out of there in 40 minutes, after doing some extra work. A very refreshing experience, including replacing two f/wheel sealed bearings, that were admittedly rough, and whilst I know what a bearing-puller is, I was impressed with their bearing DRIVER, sexy bit of kit. 2 thumbs up: I will be back. chris
  7. I use Garmin Forerunner 35; very happy with it indeed….. chris
  8. Germany just set a WR in Women’s track…
  9. Navworld JHB still handle Cape Town ‘repairs’, but as stated here, if out of Warranty, then it’s often a 30% (or whatever) discount off the latest model of the same product you are having problems with. I have found Navworld JHB service quite good, from CT, etc. cheers Chris
  10. +1 for the Courier Guy, we use them for our business, last 8+ years, never a days problem…

  12. Sam have sent your articles (1, 2, 3 & 4) to a mate (andrew Eve0 who entered twice, got quite a LONG way down the road, but failed to finish either time, to see if I might motivate him to try once more... (I actually collected him and three others in 2018 or 2019, in the middle of practically nowhere, they all piled in my van and we returned to Cape Town, they were bruised, but unbowed!) I think he did 2018 and 2019, one of them was with that HECTIC wind that blew, and blew, and blew! Cheers Chris
  13. not gonna argues on the LOOKS department, but functionally, it is a start...
  14. I guess he just left the word 'not' out, as in "I will never N-O-T ride without one again..."
  15. https://www.news24.com/ride24/gear/handlebar-breakthrough-for-gravel-riders-20210720 interesting article, and for example, it would allow ME (anyway!) to reuse MTB controls on a gravel/dropped bar... Chris
  16. Elevating his legs up against a wall, 30 minutes just before turning in for the nite, but on the bed, on his back, pillow under head, pillow under hips, legs up against the wall, at a 70-80 degree angle, seems to help some people get their legs to recover - this has worked for me, and I read it on a reputable (!) site, maybe worth a try, can even READ in that position, to pass the 20 - 30 minutes... Cheers Chris
  17. Source: Cycling News 2021-07-08T12:51:03.081Z Interesting information from Bradley Wiggins who is riding on the back of a motorbike for Eurosport. The 2012 Tour champion said that Cavendish "was rattled this morning" because ASO, the Tour organisers, didn't give him a green skinsuit, the aerodynamic clothing that the 36-year-old prefers to wear on sprint stages.
  18. to ADD to what Morne says, when I put the Roubaix Pro tires on my MTB, they were marked 700X30/32c... I then asked store salesman why they would be 30/32c, and not one, or the other... he replied depends on rim width, which would change effective diameter/profile of the tire... makes sense, I guess!
  19. any info you can share on where you SOURCED this from, and rough cost? thanks!
  20. https://tusker.run/ yowzer! Just read up on the Tusker. Again - YOWZER - that IS P-R-O-P-E-R… I knew you did trail running, but that one is Epic - good luck / God-speed! Chris
  21. Can confirm I put 28mm tires on for Eroica, on a steel Alpina, no rubbing/touching whatsoever, even under out-of-the-seat climbing, so zero problem on this bike. heve left them on subsequently, done 2 or3 road rides, they work well… IIRC, I need to let air out of tires only to REMOVE the wheels, since my brakes do not have the over-cam opening device.
  22. Bike is 2X, and each wheel set has its own cassette, near-new wheels cost R2.5K on this here hub, affordable cluster, cassettes are matching, yet affordable
  23. Those, exactly. Like a microwave oven, or Air Fryer, or Crocs once you’ve tried them, they are a game-changer, and that’s no hyperbole! pics tomorrow, or Mon. cheers chris
