I’d heard that but definitely doesn’t seem to be the case around me - I suppose lots of water and fertile soil means low feed costs and more cows per hectare. As my not poor dairy farmer mate says, they (the cows) even work on Christmas

that said I see a lot of the dairy farmers here have accommodation as another revenue stream

    seems better than a bikeshop

Unfortunately the dairy farms on the Highveld have to do the mixed ration thing all year long, and that's where the costs go up. They say up here that all dairy farmers go to heaven, because they had hell on earth!😱

    Huh?

How doe wheel size enter this equation?

I have a 20' bike with the right saddle height, reach, stack etc.... I am not 5'4 or 'lower' (shorter).

Bike size has nothing to do with wheel size...... well generally

Jewie, you say that bike size has nothing to to with wheel size... Honest question here, could you maybe elaborate a bit on that? I'm very! short and look like a hippo doing ballet on my roadbike with its bigger hoops.

My medium 26er mtb looks way better with my short legs. And I feel more confident and in control on it.

Ek het nie die gpx files nie, maar kan probeer kry. Die korter afstande is altwee deel van die 94km roete, net ander afdraai punte.

Thanx, dit sal baie help. Dan weet ek waar om my begrafnis te verwag🙈

Event Name: Gaan Wild MTB Race
    When: 01/05/2022
Where: Lekwena Wildlife Estate, , Potchefstroom, North West
    Category: Mountain Bike

We invite you to come and enjoy a day in the “flat” NW province and take part in the “Gaan Wild” race on 1 May 2022

The 94km is a challenging route through the Lekwena wildlife estate and surrounding farms and the shorter distances (60km, 42km and 20km) lend themselves to more relaxed riding.

    Go to Event Page.

Depends on how congested the water points are when you get there, and at how many you stop.

I'm not sure how much of a difference one bottle's weight would make on the climbs, but personally I would ride with two even though I almost never finish either during the ride. Rather have it and not need it...

I'd say rather take two bottles. Where you ride the watertables will be very much congested and it's going to take some time to fill up. Try and cover as much of the distance before filling up.

I noticed, with only one tab broken, the amount of movement on your unit is crazy. Mounted on the stem using the supplied mount with o-rings.
I think it's a poorly designed mounting system.

With the new Garmin mount applied, mine doesn't move at all.

Mounted on the stem my unit moved so much during CTCT it fell off at Misty Cliffs! Had to turn around and retrieve it. Luckily everything still worked and not a scratch, in spite of the unit doing a faceplant on the tar.

Went out this morning to visit the Vaal river at Schoemansdrift. Took the dun wiele and and had about 6km of gravel road to ride. Seems like they get rain every night in the Vredeford dome. Luckily the gravel is sandy and wel drained after last nights rain, quite thrilling to dodge rocks and holes with a slide here and there in the sand. Nature is bursting with lush greenery and the air is clear and fresh. What a pleasure to be out.

Good thing you took pictures, we expect February to be even more rainy. Going to look way different then. And the Koepel is not always this green. Still, a wonderful place, no matter what the season brings.

Give a shout next time when you pass Tierfontein.
