  1. We have only 8 bikes in the family (of two)๐Ÿ˜Ž, four of them Silverback. There was a time when it was a great South African brand, bang for buck with unexpected great components at that price point. Hopefully they will regain that ability again.ย

Must add that my best two wheeled friend is indeed my HT Silverback Spectra. I'll take on everything with my steed. And as everyone else said, you learn the neccesary basic skills. When the time for your duallie comes, you will enjoy it so much more.ย

Well then you must make sure to take a trip up the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. It is truly a spectacular sight. And then if you have time come to Blouberg side and look at the mountain across Table Bay. Seeing someone get excited about Table Mountain makes me realise we take too much for granted and should take time to appreciate the places we have become blasรฉ about.

So seeing as you are on a Cape Town trip then you might as well get some local flavours as well. If you can get your hands on some Koesisters (not Koek) you won't be sorry. Think of a small dough ball draped in a spicy syrup that just explodes with flavour. Then there's fish and chips in Hout Bay, or a Footlong Chip Gatsby with everything in. That is as Cape Town as you can get. Shees I'm getting hungry just thinking of all this lekker food. You're in for a great time.

Having a tough time of it lately ... having just recovered from my last fall.ย

Went for an easy spin this past Saturday, took my customary picture and a few K's later came to grief. No idea what happened, woke up in trauma ICU. Was sent home yesterday, still have a mild concussion and some abrasions ... just rest for a while now! Neuro surgeon says I may or may not remember what happened. All indications are it was a hit and run, some runners found me

hang on, what's Zeronol? I'm unfamiliar with it as it's not one of the substances listed in Koos' Verslaaf so I had to do some shallow diggingย

it's just moo cow beef hormones. contador's lawyer will do better this time and get him off.

Virbac Animal Health has a product called Zeramec, which also contains ivermectin. The thinking behind it is to make your animals grow better whilst also klapping internal and external parasites. If used by a human I can only imagine getting a boost and dodging Covid?๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคจ

The next section I rode on my own.ย  Having done most of my training on the road, I enjoyed this fast paced section.ย  Passing through a greenhouse was interesting, and a nice change of pace.ย

I had barely caught up with the โ€œEpic pairโ€ when the GoPro battery died โ€ฆ. I got a few chirps when I stopped to swop this battery.

    ย

Then it was THEE climb, Skaapkop, the Lutzville hill climb challenge. โ€ฆ. Riders STRAVA data was used to find the fastest climber.ย  Even though this only applied to those on ordinary bikes, I was looking forward to testing my e-bike up this climb.ย  We so love to make plans, then life happen.ย

    ย

As I took the turn to the very start of the climb I saw a rider sitting next to the road โ€ฆ. It was immediately clear this guy was in a bad place, where no sportsman ever wants to be โ€ฆ.ย

He was cramping so badly that he could not even stand up!ย  I saw a backup-bakkie in the distance, and set off to ask them for help.ย  Nope, they took off in another direction.ย  Back to the stricken rider.ย  He just about emptied my water bottle in one go.ย  We filled his bottle from some spare water in my back-pack.ย  He started walking up the hill โ€ฆ. I stayed with him for about 1km, at which point he said he feels okay and I should get on with my race.ย  There was some back-up just up the hill, so I got going.ย  Turns out he is an experienced rider that have won races in the past.ย  Just went out too fast, and the day went very bad very quickly.ย  Stark reminder โ€ฆ.

Had a blast up the second half of this steep hill.ย  First time the โ€œfrontโ€ muscles of my upper legs started cramping.ย  Stretched a bit, and the a quick fill up of my water bottle at the top.

Knowing it was 10km to the end, I gave it my all โ€ฆ. O-wait.ย  By now there were some of the 55km riders on the home stretch.ย  Interesting trying for a good race time, and getting past casual riders.

Very happy with my 3:34 moving time for the 75km, even though Racetec has me down for a total time of 3:58.ย  Sure that extra time is down to helping other riders, and not having to change GoPro and ebike batteries โ€ฆ. Thatโ€™s my story and I am sticking to it.

    ย

Off to Teubes family farm, the main spectator point, where my wife was waiting.ย  What a party vibe !!ย  Even a big screen tv with some people in green shirts watching a sport played with an odd shaped ball โ€ฆ cyclists sitting outside, cheering on their friends.ย  Worth noting they have the perfect play area for kids, and shaded areas for the parents.ย  Simply thee best spot for the supporters.

    ย

Lunch, shower, and then back to the finish at De Keldery.ย  Yet another BIG party vibe.ย  After the prize giving this venue emptied quickly.ย  The party at Teubes kicked into full gear with live singers and carried on deep into the night.

    ย

Sunday the riders and supporters regrouped at Klawer Wine Cellar.ย  The picnic basket turned into a big gathering of old and young having a lekka time.ย  After 12:00 people started heading home.ย  By 16:00 there were still a good few having a lekka time.

This was SO much more than โ€œjust a rideโ€.ย  Truly a full weekend of fun for the whole family.

    ย

And as I sit here typing this on Sunday night, the weather has turned to a strong wind and hard rain โ€ฆ.ย  SO thankful for the stunning weekend we had.ย  Apparently some 55mm of rain overnight (Monday edit).

    ย

BIG thanks to @eddie.lubbe,ย @Iwan Kempย and the team for putting this together.ย

To casualty on Saturday ... an altercation with a dog at some speed ๐Ÿฅด

Face looks a bit like from a Frankenstein movie at the moment, broken nose, 3 top teeth gone, missing piece of the top lip and other cuts and abrasions. Lots of stitches, getting TLC from my dear wife. Nou ja ... it'll heal in time

So what to do while I wait, ag might as well paint a bike ๐Ÿคช ..... or maybe 2

I'd agree with this, hacking to find something lying around while on a ride to make the hole bigger is hardly worth it when one considers the weight/ size of a reamer. (same goes for my 4x4 tyres, trying to get a plug in a newish thick 4x4 tyre is nearly impossible without a reamer)ย

That's why I always apply rule no 1: never leave home without a pocketknife...
