  1. Have to agree with Tiny K - at 13 this would prob be the best bet. Just be careful - mate of mine gets stomach cramps form 31GI. Let him test it out before the big day!
  2. I did it last year - swim was fine - bike course is ok, not too much climbing and the run is pretty flat. It is a fast course, just dont over cook it on the slow drag up tp Ladium - X2 laps. Run is a 4 lap which is pretty flat - just watch out for the heat. Nice race - I`ll be a spectator this year! Enjoy!
  3. Not that dirty - Motorex doesnt flip you over and take its turn!
  4. Yip - Only use wet lube when needed. I hate the mess. Normally use dry lube - squirt or Wurth
  5. I did my Bulls Copperhead like that 2 weeks ago - see pic. I had most of the components and shop the rest 2nd hand. It still came up to about 9k just for rolling chassis. I went 3 X 9 just cause I had it - going new will be pricy but if its your dream machine why not? Helga is my biatch!!! So I went low tech - HT & 3 X 9 Alli all the way. That way I dont feel bad taking a crash and I dont feel sorry for her when I ride! When in doubt - go flat out. Small recommendation - I have a 630mm bar and it does feel a bit small - see what suits your style and beware - you need to turn her with conviction! Dbl minded will get you in trouble. Enjoy!
  6. I did van Gaalens on a big wheel HT on Sat and I can still feel my back is a bit stiff. That being said - it was my first ride on the HT in about a year and a half and van Gaalens isnt known as a easy ride for a reason. I will also say that it wasn`t as hard on the ass and body as I expected it to be - big volume tyres helped here. I think it was more of a case of not being use to the bike. It hurt more form the downhill than anything else. I think it really depends on your body`s ability to take the shots - the stronger the core - the better. Personal choice - day 3 is going to be long!!!!!!If your body can recuperate fast you should be fine - in theory! Best of luck!
  7. Bedrock feat. KYO - For what you dream of - Trainspotting OST Use to love the intenstity of this track. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YCLOPghc34&feature=player_detailpage Blank & Jones - Cream http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROyzPjMSQeM&feature=player_detailpage
  8. Hook an old school patch on the inside. That`ll hold it!
  9. Got some loud stuff going today: Scars on Broadway - They say Blue October - Dirt room Metallica - Astronomy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCE98guaH5A&feature=player_detailpage
  10. Face to face you can sort out a lot! Shamus is one of the guys that backs his products better than most. Glad you came right! Suppliers like that will last - and some bike shops wont because of something so silly - just too much effort!
  11. Pedals horizontal is good - but more important - drop your weight into your heel & drop your heels!. That - combined with moving your weight back will stop the - flying over the bar! Turn with your hips - not your arms - you can go faster and be more stable. Keep trying - see my signature for motivation!
  12. Take a piece of 10mm rod and find 4 washers with a larger outer diameter that the BB shell. Put the rod through the BB and put 2 washers on each side. Now put a not on each end of the rod. Tighten from both ends to get equal force on both side.. The washers will press the BB into place and because the washers are bigger than the BB, it wont press into the shell but sit flush with it. Maybe try to put some copper paste on the BB before inserting it - should make fitment easier. I did mine like that at the office - but it did have a lip. Enjoy!
  13. I recon some of the guys are comparing it to what is available now with the same features. That is pretty much the RX 800 which sells new for 4k - half price cause its 2nd hand = R 2000. I guess that is how they figure it - doesnt make right, but the seller prob wants to upgrade so he needs the cash? I bought mine new for R 2300.00 - 3 years ago and its still going strong. I would guess - 2nd hand + all accesories - reasonable price would be R 1200.00
  14. No need to pay more than R 500 for a cassette. I usually also go for a lower grade chain aswell - only diff between SLX and XT is nickle plating that helps prevent rust. wash and lube after every ride does the same - why pay R200 more for that? I also change my chain at .75mm wear so I go through them quick. I - personally - dont see the benefit in that small weight saving vs price. But that`s jut me!
  15. If you are going for light weight - Go R1 on the brakes. Stopping power - I would rather go for XTR or even XT. If you do shimano brakes - go Shimano groupset as well. If r1 - go Sram - no reason - I just prefer Sram. Its all about your personal style/preference - dont copy anyone else for the sake of it. I threw the R1`s off my Morewood Zula and changed to Hope M4. Do what suits you! Enjoy!
  16. Got the frame on the 2 for 1 special and built it up with the spare parts I have accumulated over the last 4 years. It actually is lighter than I expected - Lighter than my Zula. Will get both on a scale to see the diff in weight. Will let you know after the weekend about the diff in ride. I built it up for about 9K - had most of the parts I needed anyway. Now I have a bike for my dad to ride when he wants to!
  17. Guess I`ll have to pipe up and put out!!!! PS: That should be the 1st netball teams motto!
  18. This is Helga - i called here his cause she`s a bog `ol girl! Frame : Bulls Copperhead 29er Shock : Rock Shox Reba Wheels: Shimano XT X.O groupo except for FD - deore Truvativ crankset Ritchey/Easton cockpit Formula R1 brakes Looking forward as to what she will do at van Gaalens!
  19. I have the Zula and now biulding up a HT 29er. Zula for technical training in Groenkloof/Fountains & long stage races HT for long endurance training and flat drit-road riding. Like Banna says - it keeps it fresh!
  20. Have to say I ride Ritchey currently and would recommend it!!! Havent ridden Momsen. Contact Shamus at Bicicletta - they have some Ritchey stuff on special now.
  21. The best guy to work with is Ruan Deysel from Spoke Works [spokeworks@iburstDOTcDOTza] He is the Sram/Rock Shox agent in Pta/Gauteng. His place is just off of Rossouw st & the N4 east. I prefer to deal with someone face-to-face.
  22. Harden up Smolster!!!!!
  23. Hope tech X2 - Dont listen to Meentb - he`s does all mountain - I bought his M4`s so he could switch to Mawhatsyoucallit. Hope, hope, hope, hope, hope!!!! Its the last brakes you will ever buy!!!!!!!!!!!
