Thanks for your input but my sense of humor is well and alive.
However, no matter how many times I read that post and try to see the funny side of it, sorry still not funny ...
This guy might not be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy his videos. A bit of a long video and some of his math is a bit dubious but I like the point he make.
He suggest spokes on the drive side should be one gauge thicker than the ones on non drive side. As far as I'm aware nobody does this:
Joke or no joke, thats not the point, I don't think Mat & Nick are going to take it as a "positive" thing, and that's what matter in this situation.
Thanks for the help guys. I ended up on an extended search on youtube and found this guy that explains it in a nice detail that I can understand.
Will try those Trek shops! Thanks guys.
Just a quick question, if I plan on changing the rims in the future to lets say the Lyne wheels, woudl I benefit from the Bontrager hub, or would I need to re-purchase a hub for those rims when I'm ready to get them?
Sorry, I cant help on this, since I'm not familiar with the Bontrager hubs I have no idea if they are good or bad. I use and prefer DT Swiss.
I'm sure someone else can answer this for you.
We seem to leave out, the "ask nicely" option.
Very true. Matt & Nick, pretty pleeeeaaasse !
You will definitely need to get a microspline freebody for your Bontrager hub. Not sure if they exist though since I'm not familiar with the brand.
Anyone else know if one can get microspline for Bontrager?
Edit: Look like you do get them and DR is correct, used by Trek:
Now just to source it locally and confirm that it fit on your specific hub.
Ah but there's always some members of forums that do not like the idea that it is owned by a person, who ultimately makes the rules. It's not a democracy, we didn't vote for Matt to create the forum.
Yes we are members (Some more equal than others, defined by monetary contribution) of the forum, but we do not have a say in how it's run.
Well, we all have our say, but it's still up to the owner to decide to listen to the members or not. It's pretty simple actually.
FIFO
Agree, we can recommend/suggest/nudge/wink etc. But we can not demand! Sorry, just not appropriate.
Another crappy idea of yours.
Dictator.
I created the hub, I'll run it my way.
You're a knob, don't you realize it's the users that make it.
It's gotten bigger than you initially expected and now you think you're a demi-god
Way to go to definitely getting it shut down ...
Maybe best to go to a LBS to at least tell you what you got and then go from there.
You will probably have a Shimano HG freebody at the moment that needs to be replaced with a microspline freebody (for your specific hub), if you want to go 12 speed.
You only need a microspline freebody if you want to go to 12 speed. If 11 speed is good enough, you only need to buy a new cassette and shifter, nothing else.
Post some photos and we also might be able to point you in the right direction.
Edit: Sorry, you can also go 12sp on HG freebody but with a 11 tooth smallest cog and not 10 like on microspline. Basically proper 12sp vs more economical 12sp.
Look like a brake pad spacing tool to me, I think?
Unfortunately ChrisF got it spot on. Although it is still a nice bike, that is the sad truth.
I would like to give oval chainring a shot, but if I thought 38T round was scarce, oval seems to be almost impossible to find.
Can anyone point to where (locally) I can get a: NW, 104 bcd, 38T, Oval chainring?
Imagine how fast you can go with 2 cranks and four feet, wait.. but that's a tandem ...
Nice, constrictor of some sorts, is a frog it got there?
Nope, have about 7mm clearance, might be able to go oval or fit a 40.
I was running 32 round x 11-42 on my prev bike and thought moving to a 10-51 12spd cassette a 36 would be better, but I ended up going for 34 oval and so far I'm happy, I'm obviously not using the 51 often, it's nice to have that "bonus" gear for when I'm really cooked.
Not sure how set your mind is for that 36, but maybe the 34 would be just fine and work better than the DIY-2x crank solution
I was a bit skeptical in the beginning on the whole 1x thing, but I must say it work just fine, 12sp significantly better than 11sp.
Started with 11sp (36 & 11-48), I very quickly changed to 38 in front and now I'm on 12sp (38 & 10-51).
I cant spin like a bat from hell on 30, 32, 34 or even 36, how most guys do, I simply don't know.
Surely if you don't use the 51 at all it make sense to pair with a 38, that way you will make more use of the 51 and also increase your max speed on the 10 cog. Sorry, that's just my logic and it work for me so far.
Even with a 38, I use the 51 only on very steep long tough climbs. I didn't try oval yet, so cant offer any input on that.
Hi guys
I am looking for:
- 9 speed shifter (right)
- Front Derailleur (3x9)
I have a XT 3x (9sp) front derailleur for you. Recently took it off my daughters bike. Used it with dual control brake levers, still using those unfortunately. PM me if you interested in the derailleur.
Edit: Also have a XT 9sp rear derailleur that I'm not going to use.
Ridiculous! Like so many other examples, the money is simply not going where it's supposed to!
Hey all,
About to put a new 1x12 XT upgrade kit onto my MTB.
Do I need a special chainring for the Shimano HG+ 12 speed chain?
I'm reading differing opinions online, comments about using a SRAM power link on the Shimano chain.
Thanks
Any NW chainring will work 100%.
Also no issues using a SRAM link on Shimano chain, done it multiple times before. You can even get a generic link at your LBS.

Thanks for the positive feedback. We're really excited to finally get this out.
We have no plans to make it mandatory. Buyers can always elect to avoid sellers who refuse to use it.
Our current thinking is that a free-to-use classifieds for private users is important for the continued success of Bike Hub.
???
I disagree with that.I want the option as a seller
Yes I agree, that's why the "cant" is in there ...
And also Matt or Nick confirmed they are not planning to make it mandatory.

Luckily you had enough time to react.
That's why its so important to never become complacent and always watch and check expecting the worst, a few seconds can make the difference between life & death.
