  1. We can not let fear rule our lives.

Almost all these mugging incidents relate to solo riders. Joining a few friends on rides will greatly improve your safety.

.... and this from somebody that ride solo to our trails on a regular basis ...

Driving to MTB trails, then riding in safe areas is your other option.

Agree, we cant let these f****** win.

  2. I have been sent a 2nd video from some random on FB of the same guy, same day driving through Sea Point, lights a rocket type fire cracker, throws it out the window on to the pavement whilst his mates all have a laugh and driver drives off. Sun seems to be setting in the video as it's quite gloomy. So seems all they did all day was just catch on ****. The fact that he had a fire cracker(rocket) in the car with him shows that when he left home he was already planning to be up to no good, unless he bought it whilst out on the day(highly doubt that though)

So much more reason to "educate" the idiots.

  3. This doesn't always work unfortunately. That fake Dr tri lad oke, what was his name? The one selling stuff here that doesn't exist. Someone went and spoke to his parents and they did nothing.

Unfortunately there is a lot of parents these days that don't give a crap about their children.

I recently helped a 20 year old for about 4 months that was kicked out of the house by his own biological mother mostly because he stood up to her for treating him like dirt and screaming at him on a regular basis.

With parents like that its no wonder the kids are acting like idiots and hooligans.

  4. Missed stage 7 but watched the highlights last night.  Where the hell was "this" Roglic in the TdF?

From watching the tour I never would expected he is the kind of guy that want/can attack after attack after attack, a pleasant surprise though.

Is it a case of the competition is simply weaker or is he on song?

  5. Nothing works with Strava anymore, remember they took Bluetooth support out because that goes counter to stravabook

Damn!  You are correct, I don't see bluetooth anywhere in Strava.  I didn't know because I haven't used Strava in a long time.  My Polar account is linked to Strava so my sessions get uploaded auto.

  6. Something else to consider, given the climate of bike jackings and muggings. Say the rider was armed and reacted, within rights.

We'd be having a very different conversation about the results of a very stupid prank and who are pansies.

In fact regardless of speculation of who or what came off second best. The bred pansy is not the chap on the bike.

Only problem is the law say you can only re-act with a fire-arm if your life (or someone else's) is in imminent danger.  Other type of weapons like a base-ball bat (a bit unpractical on a bike), go for it.

Unfortunately this incident will not stick in court as being imminent life threatening, although it can potentially lead to that if the cyclists end up under a car.

  7. You get a Topeak ridecase for iphone.  I have one for an iphone 7+ (way to big for a 6), but he can use the topcap mount.

If he want the H7, he can have this mount for free, then just need to search for a compatible casing for the iphone 6.

  8. Update:

I was contacted by a lady from the "Stay wider of the rider" campaign and she has requested the details of the victim which I'll pass on because the chairman would like to take this case on due to the breaking of the 1m rule.

I really hope they get some results from this, but the odds is not in our favor ....

Very harsh crimes don't even get the punishment it deserves.

  9. Thanks, I don't need the lecture from you. I know exactly what it is at a technical legal level. But my sense of proportion is quite different to yours. Maybe because I'm an "old toppie". Y'know, the generation that used to play "kleilat oorlog" when they were kids. Honestly, in a country where SAPS and the courts don't have enough resources to deal with rape, robbery and murder. At most this requires an in person genuine apology for rank immaturity (and maybe stupidity). And an acknowledgement and recognition that they could have caused serious injury. Dis stout goeters hierdie, nie kwaadwillige goeters.

I'm not so concerned about the "technical legal level".  Its dangerous and I don't wish it on myself or anybody else.

As far as age is concerned, I'm only 2 years behind you.  Daai tipe stout is gevaarlik en kan baie maklik verander in kwaadwilligheid as dit nie in die kiem gesmoor word nie.

  10. Your sympathies are misplaced

I like my road bike and I like riding on the road

Good for you.  That doesn't make it safe to be there (and thats what my sympathy was directed at, nothing else) ... or anywhere out on a bike for that matter.

At least in the field I only need to watch out for bike robbers, and not idiots like these that think its funny to slap someone, in traffic on the road.

  11. If this is allowed to continue until there is an accident because 'oh that's never happened before', would that be OK? I don't think so. It shouldn't happen at all.

    Agree !

I'm also not in favor of suing everything that move (like the Americans), but the fact remain, this is dangerous and can not be tolerated and hence allowed to escalate.

I must say, the little time I spend on the road to get to the dirt is pure agony, you have to constantly watch and observe every little thing, excuse the pun, you simply don't know what will hit you from behind out of the blue.

Maybe driving to a parking spot closer to the dirt is a better idea.  My sincere sympathy to all you roadies that don't have a choice but to endure the damn roads and the idiots on it.

  12. Do we apply special rules to related females that we should be applying to all humans but don't? And would the appeal be different if we thought of them as our husband/son/boyfriend/dad?

You are 100% correct, what apply to one person must also apply to any other (regardless of gender or race).

The point was simply to make it clear that the behavior is not acceptable, some people only get this if you refer to things that is a bit closer to their heart.

  13. Yes Eugene. What they did is a bit silly but was clearly meant as a harmless, even if totally inappropriate, prank. I don't think they meant any real harm by it. If it was me I'd probably just laugh it off. But I do see that it can be dangerous for the cyclist and must be discouraged. Others clearly have different views.

Yes, Eugene & Mudlark, it is assault.

I would like to see how you laugh it off when you lying dead in a ditch next to the road.

This is extremely dangerous, just because someone didn't get hurt this time, doesn't mean its not.

The more people condone this type of behavior, the more frequently it will happen and not very long before some serious damage is done.

It is not OK on ANY level.

  14. Thanks again for sharing this video. I am the cyclist in the video. As cyclists we cannot let this behavior slide, it is already so risky on the roads. Will be taking this further with the authorities and legal council.

I have no other words than: FN IDIOTS!

Glad you OK, it could have been very ugly.  If you are in a position to do so, please sue the crap out of them
