  1. And another questions.

With lengthening the chain I will need a Shimano Chain Connector pin.

I can't find anything online for 12 speed. Is this some hens teeth product or are the 11 speed pins the same?

The difference would be minimal, it should work 100%.

According to my chain length "calculator", yes you will need 2 additional links.

Edit: The calc actually show 1 more link but since that's not physically possible, 2 is the answer.  You might get away with your current length, depending if you are "conservative" at the moment.

  2. I'd like some clarity on whether you have to have a mask on for sport now. seeing as it has become a criminal offence and all..

I will be riding with at least a buff around my neck anyway.  As soon as I get remotely close to other people simply pull it up over my nose and mouth.

Better safe than sorry, the law is one thing, for me its more important not to get infected since my wife's immune system is virtually non existent and she probably wont cope with the virus at all.

  3. I'm not familiar with that hub but if it is a front hub and 15 x 100 (non boost) I can help you.  I had a "converter" machined for me but since sold the bike I used it on and hence don't use it anymore.

If you can collect (or pay for postnet) you can have it for free.

    PM me if interested.

Edit:  Never mind I see its a rear hub, sorry.

  4. I reproduced the creaking while holding the brakes and putting torque on the cranks.

Then dosed the rivets on the Al cogs with thin oil and repeat, it's now quite.  Very likely to be temporary solution.

So definitely the rivets causing this issue.  It is disappointing to say the least, I expected more from XTR (and Shimano), maybe I need to start accepting it is Shitmano after all ...

It will probably still work fine with the noise, its just extremely irritating.  I don't want my bike to sound like its going to break any second while I'm pedaling my gat af on an uphill.

  5. No

If it was bought new, they should warranty it

If not, buy an XT replacement

The XTR cassettes are too light (fragile) for anyone but a sponsored pro athlete

Thanks, I got mine for a bargain, not willing to pay full price on it EVER.

I will keep using it until its worn and try to ignore the noise.  Will rather replace with a Garbaruk cassette when the time come, it is lighter and more durable since its machined from one peace of high quality steel, only the one last cog is Al.

  6. Hi All

I got this cassette in new condition from a fellow hubber.  Unfortunately the plastic spacer was not included.

My cassette is creaking like hell under load while climbing in the easy gears, very annoying on a bike that is otherwise considered as one of the most quite around.

Anyone know where I can get one of these spacers?  I'm tempted to make one up but it is tricky with all the micro-spline cut outs and it is very small and dainty.  If I can get a template maybe ....

    Thanks

  7. Two sides to every story they say ....

The fact that pics were being taken of riders not in absolutely single file suggests that the occupants of the vehicle were not impressed to start with.

I doubt the hoot was just one of warning.

That said, and anything that transpired subsequently, doesn't justify in physical altercation.

Can't people all just be lekker ... there's enough other things to worry about.!

Agree, someone else's saying but still a nice one:  Don't be a dwis, be lekker !

  8. OP was specifically referring to Garden Route IMO.

    But there you go again.................................

What does it help trying to negotiate with a bike shop owner that you COULD get it cheaper at CWC?

If you find yourself in one of these shops, it's usually not out of choice. It's because something has broken. These are out of the way places, and it will almost always cost you more to get it fixed than taking it to your LBS or comparing online prices.

Word of advice Chris:  load your brain before you shoot your mouth off.

(Matt, this is advice, not a personal attack)

Maybe I'm also "brainless" then, sorry I fail to see how did Chrisf "shoot his month off".  He simply gave an objective opinion and advice.  If you don't like it, ignore it.

Maybe more so over the holiday down at the coast, but the issue is valid in the entire country, if the OP intended to get only posts from about a specific region, he could have made that clear, till now he didn't.

Edit:  Fixed, semantics, semantics .... my intent was clear.

  9. The b@ll ache comes in with a credit limit on my account, trying to get it increased and then to activate the service.

It’s supposed to be free, but they charge R169 activation and R24/month for the service. The new billing amount is R124 extra, so someone has their wires crossed. Two shop assistants, 3 different numbers to dial, and about 7 different customer call centre agents later, and I’m still waiting for someone else.

Eish, that is the quality of service we get in SA, unfortunately !

  10. I gave it a shot with Vodcaom when they just started, it was a bols*p, same thing they had no clue how it work or how it should work at the shop, I gave up in the end.

Maybe its time to give it another shot now.

  11. I can only give you info as per my experience, not claiming to be an expert at all.

    As I have it:

1.) A balance of R2000 needs to remain in the savings account all the time.

2.) You need to spend R7500 on the discovery card for a given month before you get anything back.  That is not the same as gathering the 10 spending points that you also need to do at the same time.

3.) As far as I know, yes they do use the interest rates that you individually qualify for.

If you want to or use this as your primary account, the R7500 per month would in most cases be a non issue.  Its up to you, if you purely see it as a budget facility to buy something, then no problem.  Just be aware that if you have a different primary account and you depend on getting the premium back, you will most probably be disappointed.

  12. Hi All

Anyone here using the discovery iphone benefit? Would like to know if you feel its worth it? I hit all 3 my goals every week.

I would also like to know exactly how it works with the payments. The way I understand it is that the take the whole amount of your credit card. Then if all goals and spending goals are reached they pay back your accounts max payment every month?

imho it is not worth it at all.  Unlike the apple watch benefit (worth it for sure), this basically you pay off on a credit card facility including high interest with the chance that you get "something" back jumping through way too many hoops.

The exercise & driving goals no problem, but it require a minimum of R2000 in your "savings account" and you need to spend R7500 (every month) on the card before you start getting anything back.

I simply paid mine off one shot because its not worth it.  You might as well buy it on any banks credit card facility.

It is not really a "benefit" rather a con to buy an expensive phone on a credit card (budget payment) and they smile all the way to the bank on the interest that you pay.
