  1. Kenda nevegals. Cos they are the cheapest and come in a variety of compounds and weights. Dual ply steel bead on the back and kevlar bead on the front. 2.5. I also cut every second knob off of the side row of tread on the front tire. Sounded like a dumb idea when i heard it but it does seem to give a bit more grip in the corners.

  3. Stopped smoking a year ago. Had a drag of my wifes smoke the other night after a few beers. Man it tastes like CRAP ! What was i thinking for 15 years? No chance of ever starting again i hope.
  4. 8 speed shifters must still be around. Try an old bike shop , not a fancy modern one. Or 2nd hand. But i agree , gripshift is rubbish for technical riding.
  5. Pour boiling water on the stickers. It softens the glue and then you can peel them off easily and they wont leave any residue behind
  6. 1.94 meters tall. 108 kg. And i ride dh on a hardtail. No wonder my knees are sore all the time! Was at 94 kg when i met my wife. One year later was at 110 kg. Want to get back under 100 by summer.
  7. Get a dh bike that can take a long seat post. Morewood etc. Then get a wide range gear cluster for the back and a 34 tooth on the front. You can ride almost anywhere like that but the weight and head angle wont do you any favours on the climbs. I have a dh frame that i want to swap for an all mountain frame. What you got?
  8. Tokai forest, paarl monument, eden in stellenbosch, contermans kloof , the list goes on. Tokai is a good place to start cause there are always people there to call the ambulance when you come short.
  9. Just nicked the wifes nail polish and painted the chain. Will let you all know if it works . Pink chain looks cool. Nice pearl gloss. . .
  10. For 15 k i would go for a 2nd hand morewood izimu. Look on gumtree . There are a few for that price on there. Great handling bike, light if built right and strong so no worries about buying a dodgy frame. enjoy
  11. How much mtb riding have you done? If none then get a cheap hardtail bike for a few grand off gumtree or where ever and go ride for a month or two. Then sell it for what you paid for it and get a full suspension bike. I see so many people who cant ride properly because they started out with 5 or 6 inches of travel and let the bike do all the work. Never learned how to be smooth on a bike. Yes nick i mean you!
  12. Building up a bike costs more than buying a new one. If you build it up with all new parts. I reckon buy a second hand bike and then swap out the parts that you want to upgrade. I have been doing that for years and now have so many old parts that i can buy a frame and build it up from spares. Then upgrade as cash allows. At least i always have a bike to ride
  13. I am 1.92 m tall. Only a large frame will work. Anything smaller and you wont be able to move your weight around effectively cos your bike will be to short. But good luck finding a large frame. I always struggle with sizing.
  14. Hey! Wheres the nurse gone?
  15. 11. Avoid advice from internet forums.
  16. 6. Never put copper slip grease on the back of your brake pads. As they heat up the grease melts and absorbs into the pads resulting in instant brake failure as you reach that corner after the road crossing. . .
  17. Gold rims and white spokes
  18. Chrome plated!
  19. Will try make it. Hardtail dh represent!
  20. Going up tomorrow morning at sunrise for a blast around.
  21. Long travel hard tails are the future! Can ride any track if you have a bit of skill and strong knees and shoulders
  22. Mast to car park in under ten minutes. Yes i rode my dh bike to the mast. Once. And then had to replace the back tire afterwards as all the knobs came off on the tar.
  23. Rode it on sunday. The last bit we dug is soft and a bit slow but the rest is fast. Especially the jump and first two berms. Super flowing. That rock drop slows me down a bit but i will get the line right after a few runs.
  24. Ridden down poofadder a couple of times. The problem is that it doesnt really go anywhere. And its all sand.
