Locally sprockets are going for R300 plus. I'm talking decent wide ones and not just the plain punched steel. My fancy hubs are new and I dont want to damage the freebody.

Why is it that most people change their ss gearing by switching sprockets? I find good quality sprockets hard to come by whereas chainrings more common and actually cheaper. Is the chainlength affrected more by varying the chainring size?

Yes, I ripped a knob clean off with surrounding rubber on a tame ride at Groenkloof. Hammered my Maxxis before them and never did that.
