  1. Anyone care to back up their choice? And looks are clerly (Hopefully) not the criteria on which a bike is chosen.
  2. They are constructed from pallets (I think) so there is your first step, get a lot of pallets. Then you need to link them, and float them. start maaking a plan Large diamater flexable hose should do both, but will cost a lot
  3. THey also have maseuses thay do the same job
  4. I've done stage 18 in one day. In a Volvo C30. Then hired a bike, rode down and back up ADH. In a pair of Baggies and my tekkies. Was an amazing 2 hrs and some change
  5. What about the "Honda Internal Gearbox" that would add a few gears
  6. During the first Duzi Umfula bike race, my partner and I were going up guite a steep hill neer mission rapid and as we passed three guys walking down the hill, one grabbed my elbow and pulled me to the ground. a bit of a struggle ensued over my bike, fortunately I won, thanks to my spyderco. I had used it to cut the cable tyes short when putting the number board on, and put it in my pocket, first and only time I carried it on a ride
  7. Faster the better, most of the course is groomed and non technical, so big semi slicks are the way to go. Maxis aspen 2.35 up front and Vredestine Killer bee 2.2 on the back. let it roll baby roll.

If any of you have time (and preferably a back up vehicle) the down hill on the otherside of Black mountain is wow. The last 10 km's are not steep and follow a growing stream.
  9. NO Difference at all, most road times are related to the group you are in, and going carbon will not make you cabable of staying with a group that would have dropped you on your steel. Anyway Burry won a road race in Pmb last weekend on his 29er, so clearly the bike counts for little
  10. All the best for a full and speedy recovery. And lets hope your iron horse bucks that ahole bad.
  11. The Rides start at the Karkloof country club. R20 and sign the indemnity. routs are well marked. On the XC route, might be worth taking it asy the first time round. I didn't and tore ligaments in my ankle on sunday. There is some accomidation in the area. (Karkloof, Howick, Hilton) try www.wheretostay.co.za
  12. Get the Trance, An only upgrade a part when it wears out or fails. So eventually you will have atrance 2 equivalent, and wont have been without a DS for ages
  13. I have had a quick link come off or disintegrate one me. Pretty sure it came undone, as was not under huge load. Been riding with one (Gold, nione speed) for 10 years. I do all my own maintenace, and keep an imaculately clean bike. Was off road, so I guess it can happen, just right amount of slack, at the right angle etc.
  14. I'm with RTG7 If a deal is struck over the phone, it is still a deal, and should be honnoured.
  15. Not a good thing, Online shops will increase prises to cover the 2nd postage. Also most of us sell something, or work for a company that does. Welcome to a whole new set of loopholes for dishonest people to use to screw you.
  16. Everyone has such positive things to say, All I can think is how much I hate you right now, and I don't even ride road. Aswome machine
  17. Bought and used a set for JoBerg2C (ones with bar ends) Absolutely loved them, but take them off for the short stuff (I'm a weight weenie) Some people reported a small loss comfort in technical stuff. maybe for a ride or 2
  18. Beaut bike. Must confess to looking at th lawn as much as the bike. I've just moved into a house for the first time. 405 sqm of lush green hell that I have to deal with every saturday. saw your lawn and thought someone has a lot more than me, i wonder if they suffer as much.
  19. Yes Anton, Sterkfontein to Winterton. Boiled my brakes on the way down from Spionkop, but other than that, nothing went wrong, just a long hot day. There were a few swim stops, and Greg had a couple od Capachino's but not too much time wasted.
  20. And don't forget your ZAMALINE. 1 part zambuck - 2 parts Vaseline. Use liberally and take some with to top up. and Most importantly. At the 2nd watering table on day 4, the stuff in the bowl is udder cream and not sunblock! and people do double dip!
  21. Make sure you put in a couple of long rides in your training 6+ hours. If you are not racing, you can slow it down, stop at the feed stations, have a swim etc. so you do not have to be super fit, just be capable of riding for long periods of time. You do get fitter as you go. but days 4 and 5 and 6 are tough. As an indication of how tough day 4 is, we did 9h30, and day eight (sani day 2) took us 5h30
  22. If you like conti: race king 2.2 on the back and Mountainking 2.4 on the front
  23. World class As you say, don't mind spending a few extra ZAR's if you get real service
  24. the odd thing on Cordes' bars, is the crown of the fork of the bloke behind him, other than his powermeter display, brakes shifters and Pauls hands that is
