  1. "Tosser in JOC kit"? Appears the only TOSSER in this respect is you! Where do you get off singling out either of these groups and being derogatory towards either of them?

Sjoe! Relax Boet. Beers and smokes finished ? It was said in jest . Look at the replies . He obviously knows people riding for these clubs. That's what it looks like from across the Vaal anyway.

OK : Edit as far as some riders go. Vuiste klap in die Kaap.

Sorry Daryl . Seems you have a point. Umm . No . Seems you don't.

    A tantrum over banana bread!

  2. I'm going to just come out and say it - I have no sense of direction.  I grew on the beach and can only navigate if I can see the Ocean.  I got lost riding the Sani with a GPS and 4500 other riders around me.

This is brilliant because I would have ridden 5km on my garmin in various directions - looking at this I can get a long ride in and never be further than 5km from home.

When to cop tells me I'm 17km from my house I'm going to show him this map

Now the hard part, early morning riding.  Flexi hours and working from home has made me soft

    Thanks Morph

Dankie tog. Isn't there a pilot hubber from Hoekwil as well? For a moment I thought it was him!

Edit: It's Spokey. I'm missing the Southern Cape, wouldn't mind a cheesecake.

  3. Nope.  Though my initial artisan training included electrical, I never did my wiremans.  Actually a fridge-mechie by trade.  Later studied and been doing HVAC and Fire layout designs for the last 13 years.

My neighbour (Maritz's dad, old school buddy) is a sparky, but a different company.

Takes the ladder. Climbs onto the roof. Hands on hips ,looks at the installation. Then shakes his head and makes a blowing noise with his lips.Pointing at your setup . "Who the hell did this?"

  4.  I did my ride to a Rolling Stones Concert this morning . Their concerts are real high energy performances . Im sure Mick Jagger runs a marathon in those two hours .

I need some input . I have now been spinning for 3 days . One hour morning (7)one in the afternoon (4) about . I spin at 90 / 100 rpm . I use life music concerts as my rhythm . When there is a solo piece guitar , drums , flute , piano  or any other instrument I treat that like a sprint or climb until the whole band plays or the singer starts . So in an hour I can sprint (120/130 rpm) 8 to  12 times from a few seconds to sometime 3 to 5 min . I have my resistance set fairly tight , if i give the pedal a hard push it only does half a revolution .  My legs are now sorer than riding 60 to 80 km  of road at 24 km ave . Why do you think it is .

Leonard Cohen Live In London for the next two days and you'll be fine.

  5. How can i get "faster" on the bike during races ? Dont know it this fits in this thread but seeing i am over 50 maybe it does. I did the PE2Plett Lite and for me it was really not Lite!!! I have been training for a year now solid ( with a coach) , and i just survived out there. If i look at the other so called weekend warriors i am actually shy to say i trained for so long...........i even lost 5kg in the process leading up to the event. I actually said to my wife i was always under the impression that i am quit "tough" but FM after an event like this i really doubt my "toughness"...........

Did I see correctly ? Four days, almost 300 km and and 4800 m of climbing. For the light version. That's not easy. You survived , you finished . You are too hard on yourself.

  6. Hi First V8 . My advice as an almost 62 year old. Most of us have a circuit near the house that we love doing.

You need to mix it up a bit. Twenty five days of four times the same circuit, means you've done the same thing a hundred times.

    Some ideas.

    Day 1 . Your normal circuit .

Day 2. Ride shorter cut out some hills , go a bit faster.

    Day 3 . Rest

Day 4. Cut out some flats do the hills . Recover between them.

Day 5. Normal circuit . A bit faster or a bit slower than usual . Depends on your legs

    Day 6 . Rest.

Just an example . Nothing written in stone. Rest is important. Don't always try and beat your best time.

Also vary what you do . On the hills for example. Drop a gear now and then , see how you feel .

The variations are endless. I play gear and speed games all the time.

Try the heart rate monitor and or just rate your rides on a scale from one to ten.

You work it out in your head and you feel the 'good' day coming and you bring that time down.

    I hope this makes sense.

By deep in the yellow lane, I hope you weren’t meaning this.... (picture a mate took yesterday)

But ya, I can’t understand why people are so angry and aggressive early in the morning. I mean how is their day going to go...

Gilloolys interchange , direction East Rand? The lanes merge and then he would've been on the highway with two or three lanes either side, and cars and trucks doing 100 km/h plus. Wow.

  8. I dated a girl once for a few months until she decided some other guy was a better option...

A week later her housemate gave me a call, "You cycle, don't you? Can you help me fix my bike?"

So I went round and fixed her bike... and the rest is history, as they say!  We'll be celebrating our 13th anniversary this year.

(The funny thing is she literally only ever rode the bike twice after i fixed it. I eventually gave the bike away last year after i was tired of it cluttering up my garage! )

    It's not about the bike.

  9. I cannot do it this year . I'm a back marker with serious withdrawal symptoms.

I'm sure you guys and girls all have your rituals before the race.

We go down  on a Thursday, stay in Grootbrak. The Friday is "my" day . So we normally go to Calitzdorp , visit Grundheim , De Krans and Boplaas . Then off to Oudtshoorn for number collection and coffee and cake on the stoep of the Queens hotel. We head home past the Chandelier start via George.

The evening it's the pre race rituals . Saturday morning before five the wife drives me back to the start . I get dropped off on the gravel. Rusk and coffee for twenty rand, and into the chute for small talk and butterflies.

I hope you all have a safe good race.

  10. 'n Ware storie deur iemand aan my dogter vertel . Het 'n hele paar jaar gelede gebeur.

Gesiene skool , topskool.  Dis saalopening .

  11. Good day all. My entry is available. No charge. Would've been my 5th. A back problem prevented me from riding from October. I Managed a few good rides in Grootbrak from mid December but not enough to see me through the Atta.

    Please send me a pm.

    Subs possible , I assume.

The road from Bottlierskop to Kleinsorgfontein has been closed. Also from Hartebeeskuil dam to Zingela there's a lock on the gate . Private game reserves. But it still leaves you with plenty of options.

Three races that you can do. Klipheuwel starts at Boplaas in Kleinbrak 24 th ?  Monties Mtb on 26 Dec from Hartenbos. And the Grootbrak Grabadoo on the 31st in Grootbrak.

Or you get on your bike in the morning point it inland and ask the many MTB'ers you'll meet on the road where they're heading.
