  1. That's why I got the (Workscomponents) angleset headset. Got the -1.5º , but might as well opted for the -2º. Only thing that kept me from the -2º was the external lower cup. Didn't want the front end of the bike any higher. Pricey, but 100% worth it. The fact that I am running a fairly short stem at 60mm (used to run a 45mm) moves more weight to the middle of the bike. This makes the rear sag at say 25-30% , but the front doesn't sag as much due to the slacker head angle, which in turn results in an even slacker head angle. Still use almost all the travel in the front when doing drops or jumps. Anyone else experienced the same effect as above due to slack head angle?
  2. Maybe the guys love their Shovas so much they don't even bother with a SC I absolutely love my Shova! I would like to have a test ride on a nicely built Heckler though
  3. I recently aquired a OneTwenty frame from a very kind hubber. Now the BIG issue is wheels. I have a set of Hope hubs (still laced to some Spank Spike race rims) I am considerinig to lace up to some 650B rims to ease the pain (in the wallet) of building some wheels. I am looking to build a strong wheelset. Personally I feel than more is better in the long run. My riding will vary, but will be mostly trails & a couple of jumps thrown in (NOT DJ) & whenever I get the chance I will take it out for some AM fun! That lead me to look at Spank Subrosa rims, but no stock of those lovely rims. Anyone have some good regarding an interim wheelset or should I wait & build the Subrosa? Thanx J
  4. it's NOT a fad. mark my words. Fixed
  5. Eina! That's hectic! Heel up soon man! & to think I am always worried of breaking a collar bone... PS: How big is the jump?
  6. I use SAE 40. JB said if your oil makes little spots (on the rim) it's too thin & when it makes 'threads' it's too thick. (Obvioisly)
  7. Try ruan@tool-upcycles.co.za They in your area (PTA) & although I have only enquired from them (not used their services yet) they seems to be on the ball with most of the things you need'll
  8. When coming from a 3x setup I though it was the best thing to have a 2x setup. That was before I discovered a 1x setup! I run a 34T RF NW (no chain guide) on my Cotic BFe with a Zee RD & 36-11 cassette. Zero chain drop to date. My Shova still has a 2 x 10 setup for the steep climbs though. Been contemplating going 1 x on it, but the idea haven't materialised... I like the S.Steel single ring idea as well a the "1 click" rotation tip & flip / flop recommendation.
  9. 7 Bikes given out! That's awesome! If they just had colour options for their onefourty 650 (Pascoe)...
  10. Hey Johan, Give Ollie from Clarens Xtreme a call on OH ATE TO 563 6242
  11. NO NO NO !!! Those foul words are NOT tolerated here! On a side note: I use the KS Supernatural with 125mm drop via cable & it's also not a maintenance free setup, but it's smooth & IMO very reliable. KS does make a couple more options, but bang for buck I'd say Supernatural (in-line) or Dropzone (setback) NOT DISSING RS. I LOVE their products! The only thing that puts me off about the RS (or hydro systems as opposed to cables) is that it might happen in the event of a bad crash (as was the case with a mate of mine) that the hose pinches & renders the dropper useless as opposed to a cable operarated version (like KS) which can still be activated on the trail & easily replaced. (at minimal cost & effort) He used a cable operated KS dropper, but the cable (top) was totally stuffed after the crash & the dropper couldn't be used as it should, but could still be operated via the short red actuation lever. My issue with KS is that their cable droppers' actuation is in the firing line of mud, but I'm busy working on a 'mudguard' for those. Will post in THE DROPPER thread once I'm happy with the guard. KS importers are International Trade 011 781 5324 Awesome, helpful & friendly bunch of guys! Great riders with real world experience with their products!
  12. 6 With some MTB riser bars. & 8 1 I like most is from hippo... It reads: "It's just a hill, Get over it!"
  13. Not too sure whther I should start a new thread regarding my issue, but here goes: I bought a BBB torque wrench about a year & a half ago & recently it refuses to click back in & out when the force is applied & removed from the wrench. Anyone else had this issue with theirs?
  14. Going from 685mm to 740mm bars will take some time to adjust to, but stick to it & DON"T cut them down! 740mm is a very good 'wide' bar length. Once you become used to what the wide bar does you might feel the need some time soon to try an even wider bars (depending on your length) By going 55mm wider on bars (27.5mm each side) I'd say a 20mm shorter stem would be perfect for what you want to achieve.
  15. I didn't know of this screw. Haven't read through it, but sure this is the screw NicoBoshoff is talking about. http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/article/trail-tech-how-to-adjust-a-shimano-shadow-plus-rear-derailleur-36461/
  16. Yes you do. I think many guys running too long chains. Just be very carefull that you don't make it too short so that when the rear suspension compresses it doesn't pull out all the slack. If in doubt, run a medium cage on a 1x10setup instead of short cage.
  17. I'm in the same boat there.
  18. Sheesh you guys ride hard! I always thought bad landings / fall break bones
  19. The Giant connect stems are pretty stiff & has a fairly wide clamp base. Those are around R180 & should be more than enough for a couple of years. Edit: typo
  20. I have this sweet ride up for sale: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/83608-giant-reign-1-2013-mint-condition/
  21. I am left handed & struggeling more with left hand turns. Usually lead with right foot, but I am constantly reminding myself to lead left foot whenever possible. Sometimes 'finding out' halfway down a nice single track when thinking about it. Will see how this helps on some tight turns. Never thought of the hips turned into the corner.
  22. Because of the 'flat surface' / 'platform' I found these to clip in very easy. Also I switched to Shimano's multi directional release cleats M-56.
  23. Where can I find (fairly priced ) ODI OURY or Rogue grips in gauteng? Also which will be comfier? I have failry large hands. (Gloves between large & XL - FOX=XL)
  24. ROCKSHOX for the win!!!
  25. Yeah 80% is better than nothing for sure! I know that's a boot & not a ferrule Sorry if my post was a bit unclear. I meant I wanted to try the boot as I think that can keep out a lot of the crud & combined with the O-ring sealed ferrule (you mentioned) it can be the 'ultimate' solution.
