  1. This is too much crap info for a Friday & that on the eve of 94.7 & the fact that I received an incorrect sms so my race number could not be located for almost 2hrs..... I just don't buy into all this licencing issues and the fact that U either belong to a club or don't & still pay a fee of R30 & all the hogwash ... just another form of taxation by an organised body of sport - or are they "organised?" - I wonder. Thankfully racing does not appeal to me any longer - & neither does belonging to a club...never made a difference to my cycling. "DT"
  2. You can pick up gatorskins at cajees for R 175 per tyre, problem with coloured tyres are that they are more puncture prone and does not last as long I will agree with this - I rode on red GP4000's ... punctured / tyres got a few minor cuts in them etc...I was very unhappy with them .. they performed badly at 94.7 last year & I punctured. I opened my storage cupboard & replaced them with my dependable Gatorskins - only 1 puncture since 94.7 - '06 & it's still going. I was glad to just give them away - altho' still fairly new the lady in question appreciated them more ..... "DT"
  3. Yeah for sure - very little riding but the IDT comes in handy keeping the legs turning over for R4V ............
  4. There is NO hard or Fast cures for cramping - even with Science being what it is there is NO real answers DT
  5. "I should have half expected this lack of consideration, having noted whilst riding my mountain bike, eliciting a simple greeting from some roadies is like pulling teeth. Hopefully not all roadies behave this way." In response: I'm a roadie & will say without reservation that some if not most "roadies" are arrogant / snobbish cyclists who do think the sun shine's outta their ass - U pass them / they pass U or U greet from across the road - one look is all U get / or hardly - so yeah I hardly greet the moron's anyway - who do they think they are I used to wonder - or is it his/her genetic make-up (shame parents) or because they think they look good on a bike ????? whatever the reason each to his/her own.... "DT"
  6. I have for all intent & purpose stopped "interval" training for a while - I concentrate on what I regard as my weaker areas & work on those - on the road. However I disagree to a point that if one climbs well at the start of a climb then U'll have less at the top - for some yes but U can climb well thro' - out any climb - for me it depends how well U can pace yourself - I prefer easing into a climb and if I feel really good I'll keep as high a pace as I can muster .... 7. Ok I need some advice/assistence: New Groupset from 170 to 172.5 cranks..11-23 cassette...52 ring...been riding for the past 8months with them no hassle - 2yrs ago a left knee problem - that was sorted with some minor adjustments i.e set-up etc.. - been riding well since. I never adjusted my set-up since the new cranks even when some told me I had to drop the saddle height a tad - (maybe I should now) - Saturday I went out after a 2wk lay-off travelling - did well but nothing too hectic - Sunday 100k's mostly slow to moderate .. got pain at the back of the right knee which transferred to the knee area itself - I could ride tho' ... I don't usually use the big ring too much since the first knee incident / even now I ride mostly high cadence to prevent stomping on the pedals - I don't understand it - maybe "moderate" was too much / saddle height / etc ...???? Any thoughts ... "DT"
  8. Agreed - I no longer partake in most races due to excessive costs & no full road closure - I have chosen my races carefully over the last few years .... I now only concentrate on The Race for Victory for "that mountain" & "death defying downhills & "maybe" 94.7 ...... if my buddy rides it ... Will I need to get a temporary licence for these races ??? I ask because I don't really care for time anylonger so essentially I leave my chips at home .... "DT"
  9. MMmmm I'm reminded each time I read these posts why I don't race any longer - such petty issues around licencing & the fees one has to pay just to enter events that for me has become dull & insignificant due to me having to pay for a licence & only got a few months worth ?? - yes like many others I've done .... As far as timing goes & Timing companies not honouring contracts (SHAME FOR THOSE THAT RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK) truth be told I'm waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy past the stage of cracking & wanting to crack sub 3's & what not - I purposfully left my chips at home & raced for the fun of it - hey thats just me ... So enjoy the diatribe of authorities enforcing licencing on us mere "fun riders" or whatever way U wanna put it & enjoy racing ... not for me DT"
  10. Really ?? well I think it's pathetic what it's come to - just yesterday a Pro -Golfer was tested for doping & was positive - now what does a Golfer need a performce enhancement drug for anyway ?? don't get me started on cricket which I think is just as pathetic because there was talk of these guys doping - a boring sport anyway - Where is all sport heading to ?? doping everywhere - no wonder my 12yr old asked me : " Dad will U use drugs in your sport?" I might as well dope when I go fishing --- "DT "
  11. It's just getting better & better with all this news & my dissappointment grows stronger in Professional cycling - when I heard the news of Vino ... man I almost started drinking .. now it's Rabobank that's out - Moreni doping & F^&*&*ck knows what else is gonna hit the fan by Sunday - Where is that brandy ???- "DT"
  12. Despite what we all say the "Disco Queens" handed out a thrashing & I like it - Hopefully Vino "received no help" per say & if its worth anything he was spectacular without doubt .... tomorrow should play out & see the yellow jersey under attack - "DT"
  13. "I just find the viewpoints and certain things slightly annoying of our local anchormen! I think you know who I mean! C'mon guys, show a little faith! And he's climbing with the best!" Who really care's what they think ??? - certainly not me - Are they there - racing - suffering ?? trying & under pressure ?? thought not - If they or anyone could stand up & say: "I rode the Tour sure say U'r say otherwise - shut up" "DT"
  14. I watched the Tour from the beginning with even more interest since B/W's entry - some people I know claimed they'll never get a podium finish or even place anywhere - Lets hope for better things now - Well done B/W .... "DT"
  15. Scott is the Business - "DT"
  16. After I got knocked down last year I am more careful now than I've ever been even if it was not my fault. It bothered me for a long time & it's something I'll never forget. However since the beginning of the year count how many cyclists got killed - it frightens me - because no one seem to do anything about it. We talk / we protest but nothing. Cyclists (some of them) are idiotic fools / morons and down right stupid. I even thought of selling everything (I may just do that) but the road is aluring..I love cycling and what it does for me but it just is not worth it in this day & age... I hate seeing a cyclist killed like this but we face it every time we go out there flashing front / rear lights and all. I may bow out sooner than what I thought from a great sport. My life is worth more than the best bike's in the world. "DT"
  17. Just read the article in the Beeld of 2 cyclists killed in a hit & run ... apparently by a truck & a car .... Anyone know about this perhaps ??? been away for the day so maybe it was covered !!! "DT"
  18. Then don't spend the extra on the carbon frame mate -- for that difference it's really not worth it - Carbon is the in thing true but hey so many have carbon bikes but cannot ride to save their lives - & besides the "worse groupset u refer to - just ain't so" "DT"
  19. I agree those that want to participate in races must abide by certain rules & regulations - join a club get a licence etc...stop "B*^^&ng about it !! Personally I never concerned myself with joining a club or becoming licenced - I raced for years & enjoyed the thrill & pressure. By choice now I just enjoy cycling & the open road with my training buddy/s......Truth be told I could care less about CSA & associated bodies linked to cycling - my seeding was messed up a number of times & my licence was well...never forthcoming....who care's I still have my bike.... "DT"
  20. Can't really explain your case Chris but if I take my own H/R then: I have a resting H/R of 32bpm - sitting / sleeping with all the bells & whistles. I have been off the bike for a few weeks & monitored my h/r closely - the same..When I got back on the bike I could push it up to 160 + very quickly & as the ride progresses it drops nicely -- I got a slight cold recently but nothing erratic on the heart front - so It's all good & I am by no means a super human athlete... "DT"
  21. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeshhhh Epoh..that avatar !! "DT"
  22. "The lack of ?young? officials is part of the problem but there are major power struggles with in CSA/official ranks and that at times." Eish !!! Hier gaan ons weer !! Ek is bly CSA het nie my fiets vir my gekoop nie - anders moes ek by hul reels bly.. Ek se maar net... "DT"
  23. hehhhehehhe I love it boys & girls: Drivetrain = Idiot for expressing an opinion ... Death to Drivetrain hehehhehe even cursing me now are we ?? What next? hey listen peeps this is how it goes..I can live with that. Our Pro's worked hard ya ya ya whatever ... they race 100k's because of the orginisers ?? Have these organisers NO VISION ?? NO GOAL SETTING FOR THE RIDERS ?? man now that's idiotic & they should be shot ... poor poor riders ... Talent I hear U say some have ??? wow ok good on them then. Well I'll bow out of this Ranting & Raving about "S/A's best of the best" & resort myself to my own riding & fun racing --- Almost forgot I no longer race because of seeding / licenceing & CSA screwing it up every year & club politics & & & ... again my "opinion on CSA" "DT "
  24. The Kid..no matter what U or anyone else here say about me & my comments or opinions it's water under the bridge .... Ok I made a mistake & named & shamed the wrong "Pro cyclist" ....I apologise... Think about it .... there are a few here in the minority that agrees with me to some extent ...read their posts carefully...be that as it may my peeps Pro- cyclists have it easy on these routes... Ok let me not banter on about these matters - they cylcle for a living - I don't (wish I did). They get special treatment - the "funrider who pays does not (hate that word fun rider).... What difference is there between us or me for that matter & the Pro's ??? Ok now U will probably come up with all sorts - go ahead I choose ignotre it as your comments !!! I still say they have it too easy & race kids stuff races...so bite me..deal with it !! Life goes on !!! "DT "
