  1. I generally work with slightly softer woods and in a slightly smaller scale
  2. Generally eucalyptus should be processed when still wet - i.e. chop it down and process the wood straight away. When it gets too dry it is like cutting concrete. My dad ran a tree felling business many years ago and he would not touch a dead or dry eucalyptus tree as it would destroy the chainsaw blade and chain pretty damn quick. So if you do get it processed - planked then it may cost a pretty penny...
  3. Um yes I have - the freehub body just pulls off with your hands...Have you ever changed the bearings in the HUB tho? - you need a special tool to remove the driveside bearing...unless they have now changed it...? https://www.dtswiss.com/Resources/Support/HUBS/DT-Swiss-Hubs-Ratchet-Hubs-Technical-Manual page 48 shows the tool I refer to...
  4. Hub internals are DT Swiss’ reliable and easily-serviceable 240s with the Star Ratchet. The hub system requires no special tools to take apart or service and replacement parts are easy to source. No special tools required...sure - believe that one when pigs fly.
  5. Innovative my arse...this was done in the 70's...
  6. Sad but true...try get/secure a sponsor (any sponsor) for an athlete (any athlete in any discipline) in cycling, tell me its easy...because of these cases where a sponsor pours his money in and the athlete dopes... Sponsors are few and far between because they don't want their name associated to cycling...
  7. Sorry to say, this dude got off with a ticket....with no ID, no drivers license reference, therefore the ticket is null and void...so he got away... There is no tracing him from now on in... Why the cops didn't throw him in the slammer from the word go I do not understand...Oh wait... I got stopped one day on my way home from work and I left my wallet/drivers license at the office, because I couldn't produce it there and then the cop wanted to impound my scooter, and throw me in jail for the night. I got off with some smooth talking and the promise I would produce my license to him the next day...I went to his station at the time given, he wasn't there, so I basically got chased out for wasting other cop's time....
  8. I would say at least once every 6 months is a good interval...the biggest thing is dirt getting into the dust wipers - so commuting shouldn't pick up too much dirt/dust or mud. as for good suspension service guys I know Droo CPT i think?, Roger at Bicycle Service Co. JHB 4Ways, The Sheriff (Anton) at Summit cycles JHB midrand... Otherwise send it to the agents.
  9. So the technically challenged must pay the non-technically challenged to do the job....? Or just ride it till it breaks and then REALLY pay the non-technically challenged.... At the end of the day, this is a hobby for a lot of people, you don't have to have the blingest kit around...you could ride a rigid fork and not worry about servicing of suspension forks...
  10. Such a shame...I really wanted to partake this year, I haven't had an MTB for a while so haven't entered...was trying last ditch attempts to borrow one for this event. Hopefully next year...
  11. I have done a fork service without having to use a stand...so not really essential....the trick is to keep everything clean whilst doing so, a stand prevents you putting the crown assembly down in dirt... I use a kitty litter tray (about R50 at PNP) as a drip tray a syringe is no more than R50 at dischem and basic tooling - multi tool, 10mm socket/spanner most people should have already. The new dust wipers can be fitted using finger pressure and no special tooling...
  12. A simple dust wiper change can be done on the bike if you are well practiced...I do mine in less than 20min. The Damper on any shock is best left to the pro's - typically need to be rebuilt in an oil bath to prevent air in the system and then you need the tooling to charge the nitrogen chamber to +-500psi...not really achievable in your garage... Lefty's need servicing too ;-)
  13. I agree with Buell, times are tough for every one - here is an opportunity for the pro's to ride a mid-top end bike instead of always wanting to ride the very top end high priced model - that the stores are battling to sell... IMHO the guys could do just as well on an XT/XO spec bike as a full on XTR/XX1 Eagle group...its a mindset thing more than anything... The bike sponsors could benefit in that they are not making a R150k + (at their cost) bike a used "ex-demo" bike that if they get R50k for they are lucky...one way to cut down the costs? Oh wait - the pro's couldn't possibly be seen dead on a lower spec bike...
  14. I just wonder what the Frenchies will have to say about the new DJI product...the fact that the Mavic has collision avoidance and possibly follow me functionality (haven't managed to do research into this yet) makes it a better choice, plus the one thing is that you don't always need a controller to fly it...just a tablet...to fly close range stuff. Also folds up smaller and so on... The Karma's removable gimbal makes a nice feature but adds bulk to the design.
  15. Clean the tyre and roller with Meths or thinners, just do not wipe the black sticker on the roller...it has probably picked up a bit of oil or snot from an outdoor ride...Make sure your tyre is correctly inflated and the clutch knob is tight enough - clicks twice...
  16. A whole R12.50 less? maybe they'll start accepting the Yen - similar to the Zim government?
  17. Glad to the test bike had a vertical shock otherwise the review would be skewed and not very scientific... HAHAHA kidding...good review.
  18. I wonder if Giant will honor the warranty...? Being resprayed and all...
  19. To be honest I couldn't tell you what he charges...I work in the industry so he does a dealer price for me...
  20. The brain shocks can ONLY be done at Specialized...and its going to cost you.... As Crosschain says, most people will ask for the "seals" to be changed but the fact of the matter is that most shops will (because they don't know how or a true "full service" takes too much time) do a dust wiper replacement and that is it...a dust wiper (the seals that are visible at the top of the legs) are really easy to do and take like 30mins to change because its so basic... Basically its going to cost you to get a comprehensive service done, take it to the sheriff (Anton at Summit Cycles)...he is a Spaz dealer (for the brain) and will do a decent job on the fork in house. Trying to open things up yourself if you haven't a clue how things work can quickly turn into an oily mess in an ice cream tub of parts, you need a pretty sterile environment to clean and inspect the old parts as well.
  21. it may look that way but take the "effective seat angle" from the BB to the top of the seat post and you'll find its pretty standard. they have curved the seat tube to accommodate the suspension movement etc.
  22. Considering Rachel Atherton is on her new Slash, I would say these are photos...I love the lines of this bike!
  23. I know there was no malice intended, Like I say some people don't know or understand the goings on within an industry and can draw conclusions off of almost nothing...
  24. Not critisizing you at all, just pointing out some facts for people who may not know all the ins and outs
