Oh yes I have haha, I started cycling two years ago and the cycling community is awesome. Even my wife started cycling this year.

The braai's in question are the "end of the year" street braai's, I simply don't get invited to the others anymore. 😅

Luckily for me I don't like socialising, except with good friends, so I've always avoided (where possible) social occasions that involve people I don't know.

While I agree re the binge drinkers, if you make it zero, you remove the choice of 'I think I'm ok'.

This makes it easy for you as you KNOW you will be breaking the law and not playing margins or 'taking a risk'.

If the law is zero, you will be making a conscious decision to flout that. Will it change people's behaviour? No, but it does make the decision to break the law more black and white.

Inconvenience is just changing your habits

    100%

I'll admit I will drive after one beer. Two beers no.

My 2cents for what it's worth. I stopped drink 5 years ago when I got married. It is remarkable how awkward braai's become when you are the only guy drinking a coke. Luckily Alcohol free beer came out and made social events less of a mission.

This country has a nationwide alcohol problem, once you start brewing up pineapples to get your fix, you should ask some questions.... This isn't normal, if you can't go for a month or two without a "drink", you might have a problem.

I too, have challenged my friends and family to provide me with some data about the possible health benefits of alcohol. Nothing notable thus far, except the perception of it being a "social lubricant" or "dutch courage".

Whilst on the rant about traffic violations, speeding... Here in Paarl it's quite an issue, especially past Spice Route (Suider Paarl Road), the speed limit is 80km/h yet people drive 120km/k+ there. It's part of many of the road cycling loops and even leads to many of the MTB trails, so simply avoiding it isn't that easy.

*Rant over*. Have a great day folks and stay safe.

Maybe you should evaluate the type of people you braai with?

There's a group of us (about 😎 that ride together and often braai together. 2 out of the 8 don't drink at all. They never get ragged. No-one tries to twist their arm to drink. Choose more carefully who you hand around with.

Hiding from the infernal Cape Doctor - Top of Newlands Forest, the clearing before dropping into the Kirstenbosch single track. The Blockhouse was just too exposed and I didn't feel like getting blown off the bike today.

was also on that route yesterday late morning. Besides the shelter from the wind there is also a fair amount of shade which helps when you are too lazy to drag your lazy ass out of bed early enough to avoid the heat.

Former Zimbabwe cricket captain Brendan Taylor revealed in a tweet on Monday he took cocaine, a $15 000 bribe from an Indian businessman to fix matches and that he faces a multiple-year ban from international cricket.

"The ICC (International Cricket Council) are taking the decision to impose a multi-year ban on my international cricketing career," tweeted the national great, adding he did not fix any match.

The 35-year-old batsman said in October 2019 he was invited by an Indian businessman to discuss "sponsorships and the potential launch of a T20 competition in Zimbabwe and was advised that I would be paid USD$15 000 for the journey".

The invitation came when the team had not received salaries for six months and there were concerns the country would not be able to continue playing internationally.

e said he was a "little wary" but undertook the trip all the same.

During drinks on the last night, he was offered cocaine which the businessman and his colleagues were taking and said he "foolishly took the bait".

"The following morning, the same men entered my hotel room and showed me a video taken of me the night before doing cocaine and told me that if I did not spot fix at international matches for them, the video would be released to the public," he said.

He said he was "cornered" and handed a $15,000 deposit to fix matches. He took the cash so that he could fly out.

It took him four months to report the offence to the ICC

"I acknowledge this was too long of a time but I thought I could protect everyone and in particular, my family," he said.

He said he was ready and will "humbly" accept the ICC decision with the "hope that my story will be used as a means of encouragement for cricketers to report any illicit approaches as early as possible".

But he stressed he never fixed any matches.

Taylor - who resigned as the Zimbabwe captain late last year - said he will check into a rehab centre.

lor ended his Zimbabwe career - which spanned 17 years - as their second highest run scorer in One Day International cricket including a national record 11 centuries in 205 appearances.

He was equally effective in the Test arena amassing six centuries in 34 matches, five behind national record holder Andy Flower.

    Good morning Hubbers!

So, it's safe to presume the majority here have passed Matric, so with the recent slew of social media assault from schools who boast about their top achievers, it's made me think - what the actual? When I matriculated in 2007, 6 distinctions was considered exceptional, 7 was bonkers. What would our children's children need to achieve in order to get into a higher education institution?

So, just for a little bit of fun, which did you get at school? I'll start - distinctions in Afrikaans First Additional Language and Music.

well I got zip at school but my daughter is on her way to 8 distinctions

All this fuss about ebikes. Most of it seems banter but some seem seriously concerned. If an ebike gets you off the couch then all for it. If an ebike gets you fitter than you were, again great success. If you beat me on an ebike and you go bragging to your mates then that's bad on me. I will ride harder to make sure it doesn't happen again. Again... great success.

If your ebike runs out of e then expect me to take the piss out of you for eternity. For the last time... great success.

you won't get any e-bikers accompanying you on your rides Copperhead.

Sea, Air and Mountain operators arrests suspicious criminal
South African National Parks (SANParks) today announced an encouraging development in the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Sea, Air and Mountain (SEAM) special operations rangers, as they embarked on their anti-crime operations across the park.
The TMNP Park Manager, Mr. Frans van Rooyen congratulated the SEAM operators who managed to remove those illegally overnighting in hot spot areas, and has welcomed the arrest and detainment of a suspected criminal this weekend.
This according to van Rooyen who confirmed that this is the start of our SEAM operators park wide deployment with a successful extended operation in the Signal Hill, Lions Head, Tafelberg road, and Table Mountain front face areas of the park. The unit with the canine detachment conducted covert and visible policing operations, supported by the South African Police Services (SAPS) and TMNP rangers.
On the 11th of December 2021, SEAM operators successfully removed individuals illegally overnighting in the Schotschekloof area of TMNP. On the 12th of December 2021, SEAM operators arrested a suspicious individual on the slopes of Signal Hill who was in possession of a dangerous weapon and drugs. It was later confirmed by the SAPS that the 35 year old male has an existing criminal record.
“We are grateful to have successes coming from the SEAM operators in their first official week of operation and we will continue to focus on these urban edge zones to ensure the safety of our visitors. We urge our surrounding communities to continue to help us in a fight to curb crime within and around Table Mountain National Park. Congratulations to the entire SEAM team, K9 unit, operations center management and stakeholders and we thank you for your dedication, discipline and tenacity,” concluded van Rooyen.
The suspects have been handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and will be appearing in court in due course.
