    When I mean I haven't trained I don't mean at all.
I just never intended on doing the event until last week, I've still been out on the bike 3 times a week (150km per week) and done the Amashova, Tour Durban and a few other races last year.

Just haven't been doing any race training, efforts, intervals, hill work etc.

150km a week? That's 3 hour territory. What you worried about?

    Why wouldn't you?

Being comfortable all the time makes you lazy and complacent. It also gets pretty stale.

Riding the same trails on different bikes is super fun. Like riding the CTCT on dumb bikes too. How many sub3s do you need? It's also not fun riding in those bunches.

I ride bikes for fun. It's super fun having to look at trails and lines etc with a different approach and a different expectation.

fair enough if you have the time to do a lot of riding, so you can mess around with different stuff. I get to ride once maybe twice a week so I'll stick to what I know. It gives me enough pleasure just being out there.

52 tooth narrow wide with a 9 speed 11-42 cassette with 20x1.75 tubed tires at roughly 3 bar

    No dropper.

It is actually 2 seatposts that I epoxied together using an insert sleeve so I could insert it all the way to the BB and eliminate having a massive stress point on the seat tube/top tube junction.

I did ride down Plumb Pudding after that, as well as the rad little section of steep off camber trail below it to the right and the stuff from Rhodes Mem down to the turn styles.

Which again proves that what is necessary for some, is not necessary for others!

    mal bike dude.

Yes you can ride pretty much any trail (proper downhill excluded) on pretty much any bike. The question is "why would you want to?"

I watch some of the guys coming down the jeep track from the blockhouse on their gravel bikes (before they graded it and turned it into a highway), and I just wonder why would you put yourself through that punishment? If they had any fillings they must have all fallen out by the time they get to the bottom.

I always ride with glasses out of necessity.

I don't use a buff or any other fancy sweat defence and I almost never have sweat drop in my glasses. Even in 40 degree Winelands heat.

How much do you guys sweat??

bucket loads. when I used to go spinning at gym I would have a lake of sweat under the bike after the class.

I can confirm that Rennies does not work for my cramps, i ate so much Rennies that i won't have heartburn for the rest of my life

strip of chamois cream over the eyebrows and in between them.

But this has now presented another problem, the sweat dripping off the sides of the eyebrow sometimes then drips onto the inside of the lens meaning I still have to take them off and clean

I guess if you're riding road it's not too difficult to take off and wipe. Can't really do it when trail riding.

  7. what do you guys do to solve the sweat in eyes issue - if it is an issue. I never ride with glasses because I sweat too much and it runs into my eyes. Then you have to take the glasses off to wipe - it's a pain in the ass.

I have a Casio Edifice (divers) watch.
To replace the battery at Cajees is R200.
To have it Pressure tested is another R600.

I don't dive with the watch so don't really need to have it Pressure tested, so I buy a R25 battery from Clicks and do it myself.

I think the reason Garmin won't replace the battery is that locally, they don't have the Dust-free/sterile environment where the watches are originally made, so they cannot guarantee it will meet the OEM standards.

If Garmin don't sort you out, you could take the watch to the Cell-Fix guys and I'm sure they would be able to make a plan it this ....

I am sorry for you loss, and understand your frustration.

Many years ago I bought a A200 Merc and extended the warrantee to 7years/100000km.
At 105,000km the Automatic Gearbox went, cost me R35K and took 7 weeks to repair
A month later the right driveshaft snapped. R8000.
A month later the left drive shaft snapped R7500.
I sold the car 2 weeks later for R65000.(netting only R15,000 after the repairs)

    To me your options are

    a. Fight with Garmin for the next 3 months and 'maybe' get some joy

    b. take your watch to Cell-Fix guys and see if they can make a plan - but your watch won't be waterproof

    c. spend the R4000 for the Repair ( but make sure you get a "New" watch) and then sell it "New still in box" and buy another brand

    d. spend the R4000 for the Repair ( but make sure you get a "New" watch) and then enjoy the watch like you did 2+ years ago.

option e. ride your bike without a timing / heart-rate device and just enjoy the ride. saves you 4k and is better for the soul.

Their website says over 170km of trails, so even better. The family membership is a real bargain - it's only R1900 for 2 adults and 2 dependents, which means the children are basically free.

    thanks for the correction.

offtopic, but its the norm/trend at the moment...

This from a discussion on facebook regarding a rescue that happened between a rider and a canoeist (PS: Well done that rider!) at the recent drak descent held last weekend. I can assure you he didnt mouth that off to his riding partner before entering the river to help the young chap...

[snip]... was riding in the Euro Steel Drak Descent in partnership with FNB with his partner ....., who is a seasoned paddler himself and a regular sweep at the MyLife Dusi Canoe Marathon, spotted a paddler taking part in the N3TC - N3 Toll Concession Pty Ltd Drak Challenge canoe marathon in partnership with FNB in distress in the middle of the rapid [unsnip]

Anyway, back to the *MMAS Tankwa Trek PBB topic

I see your N3 Toll Concession what what and raise you a Six Gun Grill Newlands Cricket Stadium. I kid you not.

Apologies for the (sort of) off topic)
