  3. I believe there have been runners DQ'd and banned for jumping in cars when running Comrades
  4. R2k for a replacement watch out of warranty v buying a new watch R10k+ ? The main alternatives are Coros/Polar/Suunto are probably the options you will need to look at for ultras. Each has their merits and pitfalls. Garmin by far is the best. Else give it a go at replacing the battery, lots of youtube videos on how to do.
  5. Swim is nice, in the bay, flat calm and great if sunny, water super clear, you can see the bottom, but morning will be freezing, pick up some throw away white spa type slippers as you stand on a cold pebble beach, you can get them cheap on takealot. Last year, I was even shivering in a wetsuit before the start. First hour on the bike is cold, worth wearing socks if you happen to race without socks on the bike leg, maybe even consider arm warmers depending on the weather. Roads are farm roads mainly, lots of up and down and pretty rough in places. A road bike with clip-ons will be fine, else just a road bike. There one big hill around 60kms or so, save the legs, after that the road back into town you can fly and is a nice road until you work your way through town back to T2. If I raced it again, it would be on a road bike rather than my tri bike. Run is 2.5 laps on the seafront, good crowds, for support and pretty flat route. Long walk back from finish to the Transition which is along the run route, so nice to support slower runners as you go collect your stuff. Fun race apart from the cold start. Not a bad race for a first as swim is flat calm if wind not blowing and run course is pretty flat.
  6. Been clocking 60-70km for the last month as well as managing to cycle and get 2 swims in. This week should be closer to 100km before TwoOceans and then will be a solid block of 90-100km weeks before the taper to Comrades. Couple of days recovery then straight into tri training for IM70.3 Worlds in Finland in August. Then my year is done for A races, and will have fun at CT marathon in Oct and Mossel Bay 70.3 in Nov.

Posted on 01 April, but seems to be mentioned a few times online, so maybe not an April Fools joke? 8. Just like your irrelevant claim as you lob a hand grenade without facts and at best a spurious statement without reference to possible names of people you dealt with, which may or may not be of help others if in fact your claims are correct. And there is a forum topic where you could have posted your concerns Just because others question, does not mean we are not on the same side to deal with scammers. We just know how to go about it better and interact. If you don't like comments that do not align with your thinking, then consider not posting a forum topic and rather contact Admin directly.
  9. Nice, Perhaps you should sell elsewhere if that how you feel about bikehub and the people on here. Many deals are done here daily, some of us have bought and sold for years and know when to ignore the low ball if it is indeed the case and not have a fit about it. As Nick highlighted, the people who have contacted you, most are legit and one may have joined because he saw your ad. So if you feel there is a scam and scum, then post on the forum your reason why you believe so and show the facts!!
  10. I suspect he has had low ball offers which the OP did not like?
  11. More likely they are doing it as good business sense, If all the frames are going to be designed direct mount, then it makes sense for shimano to have a direct mount RD option?
  12. Shimano about to do similar... https://www.bikeradar.com/news/shimano-derailleur-hanger-patent/
  13. When I try a workout in my calendrer directly sync from Trainingpeaks, it crashes. Using a Samsung phone
  14. BMC Ceepo Cannondale (possibly if Omnico bring any in)
  15. Couldn't agree more!! Most if not all doing the full would have done a few 70.3's before if not already done a few full's. They will have practiced and raced OWS and would be comfortable in most conditions. So delaying the start to let the storm pass would have been considered correct for the possible dangerous conditions, They should have swum once the storm had passed as pretty much all are adept OW swimmers. It is the 70.3 where most first timers are. Shortening for the 70.3 decision seems to have been taken the minute they decided to shorten the full (as mentioned earlier they quickly picked up the far buoys and brought them in) even though their official start time was almost 2hrs after the Pro's and conditions were much more favourable for a swim. Seems like Ironman had to do it to possibly save face as they could not let the full be shortened and then the 70.3 to not be? I have met people at events who's first OWS is the Saturday morning practice swim the day before the race. So find it unbelievable that they want to do an IM event but do not prepare for it. There seems to be a great deal of negativity in IMSA direction across many platforms so hope they take heed and do something to make it a full swim, bike and run race and not an event for the unprepared.
  16. You should have left it before amending your reply, you do not know people's intention and what races they will be participating in and to what level. So do not tar everyone with the same brush just because you got emotional. Many here speak from experience, will likely race this if not other races, but if the scenario by IM for this race and for others around the world is to dumb down and be over cautious in shortening or canceling swims then it will impact negatively on future races. There has already been a massive decrease in the number of internationals racing IMSA as each year since 2018 the swim has been affected and thus will be further undermined by the Protrinews podcast I highlighted earlier who give a negative view on the race which is listened to by quite a following internationally.
  17. Yes you can, claim it through outdoor sporting event https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/individual/vit-partner-outdoor-sporting-events
  18. Before you start putting people in boxes as keyboard worriers, as a coach I had 5 athletes racing the 70.3 and 1 doing the full. I also had people on the ground there giving regular feedback, so know what the conditions were at the start and also having prior raced there myself. I have also raced in worse conditions without the swim being shortened. As well as raced the full there in 2017/2018 and raced World Champs 70.3 there in 2018 and did the inaugural 70.3NMB last year. Having spoken to all my athletes post race. All said the swim was fine and surprised that it was shortened, especially as the 70.3 were only swimming nearly 2 hours after the pro's started. Some did mention that there seemed to be an undercurrent in the water and if you stopped swimming you drifted, but swimming at the surface was not and issue and everyone commented post race that the current helped them all set good swim times. Faster min/100m pace than they have ever done in training. So your zero experience of doing such an event and only being there as a spectator worrying about your better half doing her first does not make you any better than what you deemed to keyboard worriers who have raced these events and participated in much worse condition and as I said, I had people on the ground looking after athletes and giving feedback as well as considering the wellbeing of my athletes. As for time of year, this event has moved in date quite a few times since the last full swim in 2018. Last year it was on 03 April 2023. and this year a full month earlier. As the local say, you can swim 360 of 365 days in PE, seems that Ironman always seem to get the 5 days when you cannot. Funny that. Personally and as others state the call was made to quickly and it will have a big negative effect on the event going forward especially with attracting international athletes. Considering the low numbers for the full, it could well be the death of the full and we are left with three 70.3 races and if you want to do a full you will have to travel overseas.
  19. How to loose a reputation of the one of the go to races for internationals because of the race, the venue and what use to be one of the best after parties...
  20. I and many others have swum this course, currents are generally not an issue here. Yes there was a passing storm, they delayed the start to wait for it to pass, then shortened the swim. From discussing with athletes who raced, they said the swim was good and there were no issues swimming (and somewhat surprised), there was some rain on the bike leg but nothing to stop racing and later in the day another heavy rain shower bucketed down on the run leg. After the early morning storm which delayed the start there was nothing to really stop the race including the full swim.
  21. These are the images taken of the swim yesterday, you can find them on Ironman South Africa FB page. If the sea swim was so bad that it needed to be shortened, why such a long swim straight out and back rather than keep everyone close to shore? i,e swim out 100/200m, swim parallel to the shore for 500/600m and then swim the 100/200m back in to make the 900m that it was shortened to. If the athletes are swimming that fat out, the have reached the outer buoy where they would turn left, then swim parallel to the shoreline, and following the normal swim course. See course attached Yet it was cut short so they swam to the outer red, then past the final red buoy back to the beach. Am looking for the rough swells? 😋
  22. Pics from athletes at transition checkin today who are racing tomorrow. Seems many think it is still value for money 😉
  23. download the IM Tracker app from your store, IOS/Google and then you will be able to see the event list, and once opened you can search for your mate and will get realtime tracking as he passes the various timing mats
  24. Just like Runners with a Cycling Problem. The format changes done by bikehub have pushed many to look elsewhere as well as quite a lot of long standing cycling members. Nothing to do with price or what you might consider a rip-off. If you want to use such analogy, pretty much anyone who buys a new bike should realize how much they are being ripped off. As for interest, perhaps go to the Ironman relevant event page, click on athlete and then click on the start list and see how many are still happy to pay. Pretty much sold out!! A bit narrow minded to consider that most triathletes sit on the bikehub and as such there being no interest in the thread is a sign of the times. I re-iterate that for many years the Runners with a Cycling Problem was the top thread by posts, now it is nowhere to be seen. Life moves on interests go elsewhere, just because it is no longer on the bikehub, does not mean there is not interest.
  25. I see lots of sour grapes from people who were not quick enough to get the deal. Classifieds is business, buy/sell. Willing buyer/willing seller. Too many people seem to make it personal !!
