  2. A lot of the pros in cross country are now going with 100mm for weight saving, so I don't think it will be much of an issue
  3. Road riding is good for building endurance and the aerobic engine, MTB will build power when you have to put it down to get up or over things. This is perhaps where you feel you are loosing fitness as road riding is more focused on easy pedalling and often steady state, although you can push a slightly higher gear and work harder to gain fitness, To keep power fitness for your MTB riding when on the road bike, if you are not group riding and are not overly concerned about average speed for your ride (as I know some are), then incorporate sprints and stomps into your road riding as part of the overall training, as well as going long distance for the endurance. This article explains quite well https://pezcyclingnews.com/toolbox/on-bike-strength-training-for-better-performance/ There are many articles on low cadence, high torque for power. You can also replicate this on the indoor trainer if not whilst out road riding. It should help you maintain that short sharp power output you need when riding your MTB on hills and over obstacles, which is perhaps why you feel slower?
  4. SRAM are already rolling back on tech for MTB it seems, a new mechanical RD https://www.pinkbike.com/news/spotted-a-mechanical-sram-transmission-derailleur.html, so who knows in time they may also look at rim brake again
  5. So DC's take is it is not worth the bang for buck $200 upgrade over the current Fenix and Epix unless you go diving a lot.
  6. Seems the app for loading maps does not work too well
  7. I get my malto from https://www.beerplus.co.za/product/maltodextrin-1kg/3302/231 and the fructose from Dischem https://www.dischem.co.za/nature-s-choice-sweetener-fructose-1kg-636
  8. So full bikes from the UK/EU are duty free?
  9. Daniela Ryf retires early than expected, even though this was to be her last season. https://tri-today.com/2024/08/daniela-ryf-announces-retirement-its-time/?fbclid=IwY2xjawEv9fpleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHQ21nHwO_drJV5jCOQSOocmqaLtXmX_LURpc7xyPfY7HkxfuUBISEoeOcQ_aem_BWbj9A2WaMzzo3dmlQU83Q
  10. Yes it seems to be getting earlier and earlier and is now only 1 week after Ironman South Africa in PE. Also provisional date for Comrades 2025 is 8 June. Yet to be officially confirmed.
  11. If they send EMS and then will be via SAPO. Currently SAPO and large parcels are quick to be processed, and they even deliver to your door. On 2 recent parcels one being a bike frame from China, I had to pay the courier (yes SAPO used a local delivery company) the duties, either cash or ewallet. It is the small parcels that take forever and get lost in the SAPO system. Large parcels seemed to get processed differently with SAPO.
  12. A pleasure. Regarding racing under another name, IM do not allow transfer and change of name, no matter what people say when they try to sell their entry. The issue arises that if there is a cardiac arrest in the swim, a bike crash or heat exhaustion on the run. and a medical emergency is required then when they pull up the medical details and emergency contact number for the individual it is all incorrect (as you will be racing under someone's details) and should the worst happen and something is given to someone who is allergic to it, but medical staff are only looking at data for a different individuals, there could be dire consequences for that person. Edit: also be aware of lots of scammers trying to sell entries as the race is sold out.
  13. Zero chance, and you cannot transfer an entry. so even if people offer, should you get caught racing under someone else's name, you will likely get banned from future IM events. He is better off in the meantime, honing his racing skills and experience at the smaller events of Tinman or Ultra or R2S and entering Durban 70.3 in June 2025 as there is no 70.3 in PE in 2025, only the full distance. 2025 World Championships 70.3 is in Marbella Spain and there are a lot of international athletes looking for races to get qualifying slots. SA will be and is seen as a cheap destination to race and get a slot, so the field at Mossel Bay and Durban 70.3 will have a very international feel to it I suspect. I would recommend entering Durban 70.3 as soon as it opens and taking advantage of the slightly cheaper Tier 1 entry price,
  14. Read here about data migration of your zwift rides so can move up levels/coins and be able to upgrade your gear https://www.mywhoosh.com/fuel-your-ride-with-a-whooping-mywhoosh-3-7-0-boost/#:~:text=Simply submit all relevant data,be reflected on your profile.
  15. Did you check the min specification before trying to install it? https://www.mywhoosh.com/docs/what-devices-are-compatible-with-mywhoosh/ There are also 2 versions of Mywoosh HD and Mywoosh, the latter is for lower spec pc's, see here on download page https://www.mywhoosh.com/getting-started-mywhoosh-cycling-app/
  16. Why bring the wrong tool to the job? This is a road bike race. Even a cheap road bike from cash cruisaders will be better than a MTB if the gears are ok and work and you can put a big enough cassette on the back for what is a very hilly course. I would be more worried about running out of gears with the small chainring on the front and not the number of gears on the back and it sounds like it is a dual-sus MTB, so you going to be wasting a lot of energy pedalling even if you can lock out both. You are spending a small fortune with entry, flights, bike transport and accommodation. Did you not think it through that you will need to spend on equipment before entering. Why compromise your race and all the money you spent just getting to the start line.....
  17. 1. Buy a road bike as you will need to train on it, then sell after your race, as you need to do the long distances for a 70.3 and be comfy on a road bike. It will be quicker than putting slicks on a MTB. 2. Trisuit, yes get one, you wear it for the whole race and save the hassle of changing. You can look in the classifieds, else go to one of the trishops local to you, otherwise at Sportsmans you can usually find 2XU or First Ascent. Even Decathlon do a trisuit. As you are not really into triathlons, any trisuit will do the job and at the price point you are likely to be considering, they are all pretty much the same no matter what make.
  18. Canceled in protest rather than being tired it seems https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/jul/24/tadej-pogacar-says-decision-not-to-select-girlfriend-helped-sway-olympic-no-show
  19. Maybe Vino should be thanking Cav as he is likely smiling at his bank account with recent news of investment by Chinese brand XDS https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/confirmed-chinese-brand-xds-carbon-tech-invests-in-astana-qazaqstan-for-2025-reboot/
  20. I am sure they get 100s of emails on the topic. It gets asked often on the FB group. Better to follow their FB group that i posted above, lot of the issues and answers by MW and users are posted there. And helps in trying to understand what's happening
  21. See the issue reported here on MW facebook page, you need to adjust the fit file by 1s and it will sort out the speed issue https://www.facebook.com/groups/mywhoosh/permalink/1149171972987451/
  22. It has been posted on the MW facebook group many times, that this issue is not because of MW. Garmin are not willing to allow integration with MW. It is Garmin who are blocking this. Most either download the MW fit file after the workout and upload it to Garmin, else record at the same time with their Garmin device as an indoor workout/ride. This issue lies with Garmin as they don't want to play nicely 👎
  23. There also a Fenix E as well as the Fenix 8, https://www.notebookcheck.net/Garmin-Fenix-7-successors-leak-as-Fenix-E-and-Fenix-8-with-higher-than-expected-launch-pricing.856256.0.html
