  1. Interesting responses to this incident on the forum but I am glad it's sorted and he is on his way home, hopefully next time he just phones hotel staff and team management, school fees paid! Sadly the world has changed and we need to think very carefully how we respond to what we see in front of us on a daily basis. How I miss the days when a good PK could sort out most misunderstandings.

  2. I'll tell you what happens when I walk into a bike shop: Some guy saunters over and the look in his eye says "what does this old git want to buy in here?" Just asking for some friendly service from someone who knows what he/she is talking about. Of all the bike shops I've been in, Linden Cycles was the only place I enjoyed going to, and I only got good service from three people there, Joneen, Neville and a mechanic called Mike, he was there a good few years back. Sadly I live and work on the other side of town so it's inconvenient to go there. I've tried a good few shops around town and no one else comes close. You did ask!

Kinda like asking who's the greatest guitarist of all time. Answer of course, is Bob Marley... My reasoning being that there are more pictures of Bob around the world playing a Les Paul-style guitar than of anyone else (probably). So you should put Joe Breezer on that list

Joe Breeze was photographed playing a Les Paul?

Agreed and there was a time when I would have taken the 300 every day of the week and twice On Any Sunday. Maybe aside from the fuel and if you are on Hammer etc maybe even including that, servicing and maintaining the 300 may not be that much more than a top end bicycle at the agents, even the tyres. Dirt bike kit is more expensive; boots at R12k if you go for good ones (and good ones are much needed).

But bicycles have made an overtake I think. My first MTB was a "top of range" GT, XT components and a good (so the LBS salesman told me) fork. BUT, hard tail and vee brakes; all for R8k or so. At that time I would guess a KTM 300 was around R25k new.

    Times have changed.

    Clever.

Got a new car recently and the smaller cars are flying out the doors he says. Fuel efficiency being one the biggest factors, people dumping the gas guzzlers.

I have a Prado and a Hilux, I could sell either one for about what I paid for it. Replacing either with similar would mean throwing in north of 100k, that buys a lot of the extra petrol/diesel required for a lesser vehicle in my opinion.

WvA would have hoped to have pipped Eekhoff to make inter-sprint points. Text commentary had him having a word with Eekhoff after. Any ideas what that was about?

In terms of the green jersey battle Eekhoff is a nobody and DSM do not have a dog in that fight. He has certainly made an enemy and WvA is probably going to pay him back at some stage in the future.

  7. It certainly is shaping up to be a great last week. Waiting for Ineos to light things up might be a bit much, I just cannot see GT having the fire power. The new TDF contenders have so much explosive power in the climbs and expose riders like Thomas and poor Louis over the short accelerations, put two of them head to head and the gap opens up on GT very quickly. JV do seem to have less luck than Ineos but that may be because Ineos play it safe, too safe. But... it's been hot with more hot to come, there are some tough climbs this week and then an ITT, let's see who can survive. If I were Steve Cummings I'd put Pidcock over the first climb and let him loose on the descent, see who chases. Watching Pidcock going downhill is like watching ballet on a bicycle.

  8. This event always had a strong following on Bikehub in the past, pity that it is not so popular these days as I am in awe of the guys and girls that do this race. I see the weather has taken a rather large toll this year particularly on the racing batch.
