  1. How exactly did you determine it was stolen? Did you just take it off they young man in the assumption it was stolen or did he tell you he stole it? There have been a few cases on the hub here where people assumed something was stolen and it turned out the bike had been paid forward to the gardener or employee

I didn't determine it was stolen, I think that's an assumption you've made. I pulled the guy over and asked him where he got the bike. He said he found it while scavenging on Table Mountain. I suggested we go and take it to a police station to try find the owner. He was not interested in that and got a little hostile. I asked what he was going to do with it. He said sell it in Wynberg. I made a call and gave him some money there and then as i believed it was the most likely way of getting the bike back to it's owner.

I realise there may be debate as to whether this was the right approach or not. It is however what I did in the heat of the moment. My intention is to get the bike back to the owner and do not wish to get drawn into a hub forum ethics debate please.

  2. I haven't involved SAPS, I don't really have the time or inclination - my intention is to get the bike back to its owner and hoping the Hub community could be of assistance to make that happen. Thanks for the recommendation though.

I hope you had SAPS involved - if you suspect it's stolen property then you probably don't want to hang on to it without telling them.

  3. Stolen: Santa Cruz Tallboy 2013

    When: 9 January 2020

    Where: Cape Town, Western Cape

I've come into possession of a Tallboy through strange circumstances in Kenilworth in Cape Town today. It's a couple years old but in immaculate condition. See pic of it. If it is yours or you know who's it might be, connect with me and I'll get it back to you.

Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section

  4. I have an entry I'm looking to sell - sadly can't make it due to work travels.

All I need to do is write a letter and I'll provide a copy of ID for safety sakes, easy. I've asked the organisers.

George I would dig to take your entry I've suddenly become available. Perhaps you could wen me a pm with your number so we can have a quick chat.

  5. I went onto Saseeding and see my index is 36 It used to be 29 last year. I've only ridden for 3 years and I see the best index of any race in all my riding is 30. How could my seeding have been 29 last year and now 36? Do they adjust your index per race as it ages. I generally start in A batch but got a message I am starting on C for the clarens ride. It doesn't matter where I start I just don't really get the logic. Does a C start for a 35 seeding sound right?

  6. If u are new to mountain biking at this event you are almost garenteed to get hurt, if u have some experience you will likely have a tumble as well .

This event is not for beginners the quicker we paint this picture the better we can manage expectations for average Joe who is purely hoping to make his first 55 km.

If this is your first mtb race , you sir will have a 50/50 chance of a ambulance ride to the local hospital .

Crikey, your attitude is insulting - don't paint every "other" average joe with an incompetency brush. More than 50% of competent first timers should know when to push a bike vs crashing one.
