  1. I took out my CSA liscence last week and it cost R200 (R50 ROAG, R75 Central Qauteng, R75 CSA). That is R16.66 per month. I cannot believe that people can moan so much about paying R 200 per year for the privilage of racing and having a Cycling Federation taking care of Cycling in South Africa. I used to Canoe actively and out of interest went to see how much its cost to be able to take part in canoeing races. The annual provincial and national fee is R 550 per year, excluding your club membership. I will most likely get slated for this by people saying what are they getting for the R200 etc, etc. Maybe if we paid more they would be able to do more, he says grabbing his hat and running out the room.
  2. Did'nt Burry Stander build some signature track there?. If not there are loads of gravel roads all over the place for MTB'ing / game viewing
  3. I also use Cyclemeter on my Iphone. It chows the batteries though. I also find that the Iphone loses the GPS signal quite a bit when the phone is in my cycling shirt
  4. 2 Bar
  5. Chris. So you think its mud.
  6. Furbaza. There are a few things in your post that confuses me. Firstly there were only 145 riders doing the 70KM. Do seriously want to split 145 riders into 4 smaller groups? You say that you started 25% from the front. In other words there were 36 riders ahead of you. Not alot considering that the start was on a tar road (as mentioned earlier in the thread). I find it hard to believe that it took you 7km to catch someone that started in the same bunch as you but travelling half your speed. I have only done that race once but if you are refering to the gravel road after you turn into the reserve, there must have been enough space for you to pass two people riding next to each other, its a gravel road not single track or jeep track. Babas is most likely one of the least technical races on the calander and there will always be loads of newbies doing it.
  7. I Have the Planet X carbon forks and I am happy with them. Yes Eldron the Niner forks are so sweet. You can get them from local LBS Niner dealers for about R 3500.
  8. Edgar Did you do it with SS in the end? How was it?
  9. Edgar thanks for the ride yesterday. Sorry we lost each other in the "forest" section, was heading home in any case. Obviously the rest of the Thursday Spruit group is allergic of mud.
  10. I have a set of Avid ELXIR CR carbons and I am not happy with them. On my single speed I have a set HYGIA SLP's which are half the price of the Avids (R1450 for the complete set with rotors) and are much better. I bought them from Jooste here on the hub. Check out this link https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/93269-hygia-disc-blow-out-sale/page__p__1272370__fromsearch__1#entry1272370
  11. Go Check at your post office. On a few occsions I have received my package while the Parcelforce system said it was still in transit
  12. sub 6.5 kg - road sub 9.5 kg dual suspension sub 8.5 kg hard tail
  13. I would be keen to join, as long as I do not have to do all the races with the SS. I also do the odd road race
  14. Dangle it was the posituve karma created by you when you helped Balsie that led Mandibles to help you on Sunday.
  15. R 20,000 for for a bulls carbon frame seems a bit high. I think you can get the Niner Air Carbon for like R15,000 and hopefully the new OnOne Carbon for under R10,000. The Volcan 29er carbon is also on sale on buycycle.co.za for R10,500
  16. Thanks to the guys from Cervelo/Volcan for the free coffee at Greenside Vida this Morning. What a stroke of Genius. They had their 2011 bikes on display in the coffee shop and paid for your coffee if you came in wearing cycling kit. The bikes look awsome. The carbon 29er hardtail looks amazing.
  17. It's called the Braamfontein Spruit. Do a search here on the hub and you will find loads of info
  18. This is a good start.
  19. PM Kiwi here or go to his website: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/c236/29er.aspx
  20. Gary, I hope you get well soon. As far as I know it happened just after the muddy section by Old eds, on the section where it dips down steeply and you go up the jump on the other side. There is a reason there is a chicken jump to the ride of the main jump because if you do not know what you are doing or go to fast the lip kicks up your back wheel and you go over the handle bar (happened to me once, luckily only a bruised ego)
  21. Article in the Beeld this morning. Happened in Modderfontein. Apparently hit by a Taxi. The guy tried to get away but a witness in another car managed to catch him.
  22. Eight years. I think you are maybe optimsitc with a 26" bike. I bought my 8 year old daughter the Silverback 24" bike. She is tall for age and she just manages to stand over the toptube. The silverbacks are good value. They come with Shimano branded parts and go for R1800.
  23. I agree. The fact that you need a custom cluster is a problem. But this looks way more interesting. These ones are compatable with Shimano 10 speed or Sram 10 speed and only costs R500. http://www.jpracingbike1.com/Recon-Gripshifters-10s-bbOaaakya.asp
  24. I have a set on my road and MTB with no problems
  25. This is amazing
