Decided last week to start making time for cycling again.
Went out on Thursday afternoon.
And again on Saturday morning.

I spent my Christmas/New Years holiday locked up with Covid.
Making every weekend a mini vacation now. Need to set the mood with the right shirt.😜
Took a coffee ride up to our local One-Tree-Hill on Sunday morning with my boy and opted for a detour home via the railway service road.
Got stuck next to the railway, but fortunately I'm like The Hulk, I get strong when I get angry and then I pick up 800's.😁
Ps: these damn upside down pic's again....🤦♂️

I rather impulsively just splashed out on this gorgeous (to me, anyway) KTM 690 Enduro R 2018 model with the rally kit and extra under seat fuel tank. 123lbs lighter than my KLR 650 and 67% more HP. I have done one test ride to bring her to Hoekwil to show the Missus. Will pick her up on Tuesday after having my preferred tyres fitted. I do look forward to getting her dirty😁
The pic is of the bike but not a pic of mine.
Congratulations Spokey! Beast of a bike that!💪

This usually depends on what I'm looking for.
Gear I don't buy new as it's moer expensive and there are lots of really good second hand stuff available on the market.
Parts, chain's & sprockets etc., I will usually look on the websites of Motorcycle World, Flying Brick and Tracmac. These are all Cape Town based. Then for tyres I also go to the websites of Just Bike Tyre and Bike Tyre Warehouse.
Hope this helps some.

I could assemble a series of clips and post a single Youtube clip if you riff raff are keen...... drop me an email to hairylegs.mtb@gmail.com with the clip attached and your bikes details and the name you would like me to use as an intro into your clip.
Every group needs a smart one....I'd be keen on this if others are also interested.
Tried now to load a clip of me starting my bike straight from my gallery but unsuccessful with that.
Working from the phone plus being slightly technically "slow"....🤦♂️

Give me two more beers and you're going to hear my limiter aswell. 😜

For now, the G650X can be used to improve my riding skills, can be dropped a few times, and later on I'll probably be on a 800/1200 with the big boys just cruising highway miles in comfort.
I know there's some things the 1200 will be better at, but the 800 is a pretty good allrounder.
It's like a oversized dirt bike in the tech stuff and has no problem munching up highway miles.
Would only consider something bigger if I were to start doing longer distance touring.

Have used Relive in conjunction with Strave before, did not know you could use it independently.
Also a super cool app.👍

In short:
Durbanville -> Rawsonville -> Robertson -> Ashton -> Montagu -> Joubertspoort -> Touwsrivier -> Worcester -> DurbanvilleMostly tar but from Montagu it was a good 60km or so of pure endless gravel roads and Joubertspoort was a bit technical since it was a 4x4 Jeep Track but nothing too major since we passed through with no crashes or any issues.
Going to Rawsonville we took the Du Toitskloof Pass and back we went through the tunnel.
Great ride you guys did there Andrew. A great App that I like to use similar to Strava and also orange (feels familiar 😉) is Rever.
I spoke privately to Riaan and shared a couple of links to Rever rides with him. Ask him to forward them to you then you can have a look.
This past Sunday we did a ride to and through the Tankwa. Entered through the Koue Bokkeveld (vkn koud) over Katbakkies where we also stopped for a braai.
From there we headed to the Tankwa Padstal for a ice cold homemade gingerbeer before taking the R355 back to Ceres, with a detour over Bo-Swaermoed past the Matroosberg and Klondike cherry farm.

The actual driver's test is another story alltogether.
My learners expires early next year so I still have all the time in the world to make a license appointment, or just rewrite the learners....
Procrastination is a thing.????

Hi there, yes I'm grateful for the sunshine even if it comes with heat. Hoping I can be more active this year. Glad to see your making the best of a grim time on "the Island". 😜
