  1. I'd also put a vote in for the Silverbacks, great bikes with some great features at a great price, I've owned 2. As for 29er vs 26er. I'm 6'3" and I rode a 26" hardtail, 26" dual and now a 29er. The biggest reason for switching to a 29er was that I wanted a higher specced bike and they make a lot of sense up in JHB where it's flatter. If you have hills that side or if you're regular riding includes lots of singletrack, try out a Dual 26" or one of the 27.5 options. No reason not too. Follow Ians advice, go chat to some bike shops and ride some demo bikes, see what feels right. Also, a lot of guys are going to recommend XL frames. DO NOT take that as gospel. In the newer silverbacks I feel much more comfortable on a Large, see how it feels to you. I hate feeling stretched on a bike.
  2. So to rephrase: Step 0.1: Obtain at least six beers and open one....going to take a while
  3. Couple of things I can suggest. 1.) Make sure nothing is broken(Sure you've done this) 2.) The plastic bushes that go up against the spacers, take them completely off and the bolts apart, or try swapping them around. This makes no sense but was the only thing that worked for me. 3.) Manually center the caliper using your fingers and tighten it down, or pull that brake like there's no tomorrow and tighten it down.
  4. Ouch, them is fighting words
  5. I was up to my elbows in pretty much the same fork again last night. Let me say it. The M series SR suntours are the biggest pieces of **** that I have ever seen. The XCR on my other bike is a pogo stick but at least it works. Stripped the M fork last night, FULL of water, how nobody knows, wasn't even close to water. The lockout does tend to stick, if you gently pop the lever off you can see the mechanism below, might just need a 90 degree turn. You can open the fork pretty easily using some circlip pliers to unscrew the tops and then regrease the springs. I stuck enough red rubber grease on all the rubber seals this time to lube a small country, so let's hope it keeps water out. OK that turned into a bit of a rant. But yeah hope it helps.
  6. I can vouch for the shifters and deraillieurs. Had the same on my Revel. Not bad at all. Swapped out the shifters to some second hand XT's. Deore deraillieur is actually flippen good. Shofts well. Fork is the same as on my silverback, felt good, worked well. Decent price for a decent bike by the looks of it i would push for a little more discount. Some of the CPT guys can pipe in further than that methinks.
  7. Most tracking devices are either out of the car or blocked within a few minutes, or before the car is taken. Car guards are involved as well with the syndicates. Friends car was stolen with car guard there, 99% sure he is involved since he can't not see, no evidence though. Be very vigilant of remote blocking, make sure the car locks and press that button a few more times as you walk away, rather safe than sorry.
  8. Minimum 90 days from date of registration. I couldn't be bothered to spend R10 on an app when there is a free version that's almost as good. So this would have to be very special.
  9. Good to hear
  10. Bwahahaha, tire and groupset debate at once. Could cause a riot....
  11. XKCD about standards is the best: http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/standards.png
  12. You have most definitely been ripped sir. Slx brakeset is about R2200 front and rear without rotors. So R1280 for the m666 os way too much as these are the previous generartion. As for the second part. Slx is slx. You may or may not be right in expecting the newest version depensing.
  13. Had a touch of sinus infection, quick antibiotic course and antihistamine spray, all cleared up. Looking to be a better winter than usual. Couple of years ago I took a case of flu lightly and somehow ended up with bronchitis and double pneumonia. Almost ended up in hospital and took 3 months to feel better. So these days I'm much more careful and listen to my body.
  14. On my 26er I went from 660mm with a 100mm stem to 710mm with a 70mm stem. Felt like I bought a new bike that just worked, much more stable and responsive, and maybe anecdotal but this also stopped the front wheel washouts I kept having, much more feedback and fine control. So for me it makes sense
  15. Well crap......new bike came with Stans 3.30. Will have to see, good reason to get some wide lightnings on Hope's.
  16. The 100 is nice, Chicago Fire and PD. Breaking bad. So much Game of Thrones(Will have to be sourced otherwise) Breaking Bad
  17. Exactly, I ordered some of AliExpress since I didn't know how much I'd use them, 4 decent lights with chargers and headstraps plus two rear lights for R1200. Don't care if they aren't awesome quality or don't last more than a year. Price more than makes up for it.
  18. Seems that's the only way to go, want to start riding some road in the week but eish.....GoPro is starting to seem like a good investment. Heal up soon Vetseun, glad you're semi ok at least. Maar die wiel draai, haar beurt kom. And please report it if you can.

    Stems

As far as I know. 31.8mm is oversize. 25.4mm is standard.
  20. Looks to be the Cane-Creek XX44, but confirm rather than just trusting my google fu.
  21. What this thread is about is not what I thought it was about.....I expected parachutes....
  22. Land Rovers are just like married women… They moan on long journeys, embarrass you in front of friends and you spend more money than you ever expected once you've committed yourself to one. Q: What do you find on page 4 and 5 of a Land Rover Owner's Manual? A: The train & bus timetable. Q: What do you do if your Landy gets surrounded by a swarm of killer bees? A: Stop pushing and take refuge inside the vehicle. Land Rover dealers have a special promotion this month… Buy one, and you get a dog for free!! Then you don’t have to walk home alone!
  23. Prepsol is magic. Spray with pressure sprayer. Leave 5 min. Wash. Rinse. Protip: pick and pay hyper has a 2l pressure sprayer filled with clean green for R80. Works a bomb
  24. We've now had Moermekaar Monday and Tiffy Tuesday.....wonder what the rest of the week holds? See the wheel size debate is good for nobody
  25. Yup, as a noob still I make sure to keep off the line if anybody is passing or if I know I'm going way slower. I'll also make sure to wave guys past so they don't have to slow down or make sure they don't have to pass on obstacles/where it's difficult. Teach all my friends the same, and have smacked one upside the head once or twice when he wasn't paying attention. But faster guys please remember to give us a shout and say you're passing if we don't see. Almost had a perfectly huge accident at the monster cos I didn't see someone coming and had to avoid a big rock.
