  1. Hi guys. Had some fun making this part and thought it turned out pretty well. Some pics of the process… 3d printing is a great way to get a feel for the design direction. Started with the design on the left. From a geometric and cosmetic perspective it seemed pretty good, but the lack of angle made the Garmin tilt towards me too much on the bike. Moved to the design on the right after a couple of iterations. Side one off the CNC machine. We had to do 3 operations per part, top (in the pic above), underside and then the holes that attach the 2 halves. So each mount has 6 machining operations in total. Some machining detail. That wavy pattern is from an adaptive clearing tool path using a 6mm carbide cutting tool. I really like the effect. Crash tested! Had a big otb which left me with a broken wrist. Mount survived like a champ. If design is something you’re interested in check out Fusion 360 you can download a free trial or an enthusiast license, so many YouTube videos to get you going. The Ender 3 3d printer is a great solid option and can be had for around R4k to R5. I use Cura for the 3d printing file. CNC machining isn’t as accessible as 3d printing. If you are designing with the intention of having the part machined, try think of how a cutting tool can get to every place of the part and whether you can machine 5 sides in 1 operation. Made a few extra, pop me a dm if you’re interested. I’ll also list on classifieds. Available with either Garmin or Wahoo mount. R700 I’m keen to make a few other things, got some stuff in the pipeline…
  2. From Trek's website, lifetime on carbon wheels for first owner
  3. Monster hands or just a preference for thicker grips?
  4. I'm running a Mezzer Pro, it's Manitou's trail/enduro fork. Very impressed with it. Super supportive and highly tunable with their irt system. https://hayesbicycle.com/products/mezzer-1
  5. Just checked the email string May 2021, I didn't squeak the wheel on this one and I had a new unit on its way to me after 5 days of Garmin receiving my unit. I'm not sure I should be posting the actual amount I paid for the replacement but I was very surprised when I saw the amount now. Incidentally that was my last mtb crash that took me to the emergency room, up until yesterday that is (feeling sorry for myself right now 😆)
  6. Warranty wise from what I understand you get a pretty much no questions asked replacement if your faulty unit is within warranty. I have sent in out of warranty units that I have physically broken and been offered around 50% off the current model price, Been happy with this so far. I use my own courier as I'm based in CT and then do a couple of follow ups to get a decent turn around time. The squeaky wheel approach. From my experience I am positive about the brand and product. Currently rocking a 935 from 2017 that has been in daily use, no issues (touch wood)
  7. Are you guys saying that if you were for example in the UK, Garmin UK would do a battery or button replacement on an older model?
  8. 👍
  9. When you say changed rotors, have you tried different types/brands?
  10. It's not worth it. The idea of insurance is to have your bike covered for theft etc. See the stats in the article below... https://bikehub.co.za/news/bike-theft-what-to-do-if-your-bicycle-is-stolen-r8476/
  11. New tech is awesome. Early adopters will pay for the privilege of new stuff, the average rider will benefit from the trickle down. But XT shifter and deore derailleur combo is all I want. Peace ✌️
  12. My 2 cents is the same as what everyone is saying above, look for a second hand bike rather than a makro/game bike. Preferably with 29 inch wheels, its a better wheel size (sorry @RobertWhitehead). I'm also 5'8 (172cm) but fully grown 😆 and ride a medium. However with a tight budget options might be limited, so possibly sizing up and swapping out to a shorter stem might be an option. I spotted this... https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/626240/29er-silverback-spectra-mtb-l-air-fork Try using a filtered search approach with 29 wheel size and R6000 as max price (people are negotiable and even more so when an aspiring young cyclist is getting into the sport) https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/c/hardtail-mountain-bikes?maximum_price=6000&meta_wheel_size[is_multi_select]=true&meta_wheel_size[value]=29" Whatever you end up going with enjoy your new bike and be lekker 🤙
  13. If you have a 3d model I’ll print one. If you don’t I reckon it’s probably best just getting one from specialized. How much are they?
  14. Not this stuff...
  15. Just out of curiosity how tall are you?
  16. I guess different things wind up people differently. What gets me wound up is when people use the word adds for ads 😉
  17. Have you entered tour de ppa? I only know one rider who has entered and his seeding isn’t showing

I was very impressed with the marshalling, we had a car in front of the group with hazards on and a motorbike that was ensuring on coming cars gave us space and assisted cars from behind over take when it was safe. Definitely the safest I’ve felt in a race on open roads.
  19. If the weather is good and you're in a decent group sub 3 is very achievable. You need to stay with your group and hopefully contribute by doing a turn or two on the front. The groups seems to blow up on Chappies so hang in until then and do your best from there. When we were doing the stretch after Suikerbossie I realised we were very close to the cut off so rallied up the small group I was in and dug deep. The year before I did a 3:00:47 from 1G and wasn't keen to let that happen again! And no 2hr 59min and 60sec is the same as 3:00:00 and not a sub 3!
  20. I did a sub 3 from 1C in 2021, well just...
  21. Thanks!
  22. Is dstv showing this weekends world championships?
