  1. Strange comment, I recommend to all my mates to go the endurance option. If you are doing 2 to 3hr+ ride 2 or3 times a week, that is the way to go. Who ride for less than 2,5hrs at a time on weekends anyway?

and mid week intervals also make it easy to get the points. But as you say, 2 weekend rides and goal is achieved.

  2. Many think gels are Evil...

Or look for cheaper options, like sweets.

For convenience gels are great. And they work...

Saturday I did a 4 hour ride, almost 3 hours fasted on just water only, this was 13 hours after my last meal.

I could feel the bonk coming on, so 1 x 32gi gel and it kept me going for another hour.

Price wise, the 32gi gels are like R22 so not too bad.

  3. What is the definition of unassisted?

Not taking anything away from his achievement, his power numbers are solid, but if I found a 160km decent with a tailwind and went faster, would that still be considered an unassisted record? Surely to be considered fair, and to have some sort of standardisation, this kind of thing should take place in a velodrome?

Are you gonna fall from space ? your biggest challenge would be finding a 160km descend...

  4. "Keeps" getting worse the heavier you get ?

Sorry for pointing this out but why are you getting heavier ?

Shoes are personal, like saddles and other things. You have to find what works for you.

For me, Shimano does the job. Have been using the higher end carbon soles for about 4 years now, no issues.

  5. So after 3 months of sitting in my pain cave, the cannonball got a bit of fresh air. Once again something about this colorway and the stance and presence of this simple bike just does it for me.

Im so attached to this bike and both my other Cannondales, would be hard to try another brand. Its just itching to go destroy some climbs.

This cycling bug is much worse than modifying cars hey , haha.

  6. I'm riding twice a week. Saturday and Sunday mornings.

At first the IDT was to just start getting back into riding after 3 years of doing nothing. It helped me to lose 10kg and get my legs stronger again.

Now that I'm stronger and pushing the hard rides on weekends I just don't have motivation during the week to ride as well.

R25k +- just sitting here is annoying me. I worked out a training program in Sufferfest now. Starts on the 9th.

Taking the rest of the week off to nurse a slightly pulled muscle in my right glute. Next week the suffering begins.

what are you doing with the other 5 days of the week ?

If you cant get outdoors then this is where the trainer becomes beneficial, 1 hard session on a Tuesday and a recovery spin on Thursday to get you ready for the weekend.

  7. There are more experienced guys here, but from my crash a few years ago I had to do follow up xrays at 6 weeks and then have the doc check it out and advise. Dont recall doing any mobility exercises for the first 2 months, but I had to get a plate and 8 screws on my collarbone so maybe it will be different for you without the op.
