  1. I agree that Lloyd should have won. Vocally he was way better than Elvis. BTW Mara....I'm white
  2. Do you have pictures?
  3. Well, Burry and Hunter aren't on the local circuit, are they?
  4. Mmm....excellent reason to renew my subs :-)
  5. Not all Fox forks are the same. It depends on which model you have. There are detailed how-to videos somewhere on the Fox site. I used them to rebuild my '06 Fox Talas. Will see if I can find the links. You can use any oil, as long as it's the correct viscosity. Just get it from a motorbike shop as it's much cheaper than getting bike-specific oil, which is a rip-off. The stuff you can't really get anywhere, is the blue Fox fluid. You need to do some research to find a grease/oil of similar viscosity. Not sure how critical this is though. Any bike shop can order the seals from Omnico. You would be looking at approximately R230 for just the dust wipers and another R230 for the full sealkit, if you wanted to do a complete overall. The sealkit comes with the Fox fluid. If you're in Cape Town, speak to Lance at Epic Bikeshop, as last time I spoke to him he was waiting for a shipment of Enduro dustwipers, which are supposedly better than the standard Fox wipers and were going to be slightly cheaper. For the Talas models you would need a tool called an IFP tool. Don't know if the non-Talas forks need this tool. The tool costs in the region of $90 in the USA. That being said, I did some research as I was unhappy with the performance of my fork, and decided to experiment. I now run my IFP chamber at zero psi which has drastically improved the performance of the fork.
  6. No....can't be done. XTR uses a different bearing design that is not convertible
  7. As per another hub member, who has spent considerable time on both a Reba and Fox 29er, the Fox is in a different league and is definitely the fork to have
  8. I'd like to know in what way the Momsen was 'far superior'....just as a matter of interest? Back to the original question....I have ridden both bikes in question and while the Scandal is a great bike, the EMD definitely has the edge when it comes to handling. It, and the Giant XTC, are the only 29er bikes I've ridden that feel as snappy and flickable as a good handling 26er. The Scandal just felt a bit sluggish in the corners. So, if handling is a big concern, I'd go with the EMD. The difference in price might not be worth it to some, but for someone like myself that places handling and feel at the top of my list of requirements in a frame, it would be. It's a personal thing. If value for money plays a part, the XTC would take the cake. It's an awesome package and a great riding bike. The new 2011 bikes look even better with slightly better spec. Not sure about the pricing though.
  9. I've probably watched these three vids about 20 times each now. Huge respect to all three these guys, but I agree on Zink's run being a bit of a one-trick wonder. Claw's run was definitely the longest and most varied and IMHO the more traditional big-mountain run. As for his run being a bit dodge, well, he has been described as an oaf on a bike. He's never been known for being super smooth, but the guy has BALLS! Gee's run being fast, again, is not really what big mountain riding is about. I think generally speaking free-riding is not so much about speed, even on descents. They don't ride slowly, but it's more about the jumps and the technical lines.
  10. I'm no expert, but if the knock caused it then the only thing I can think of is that the axle might've been broken. The freewheel spins on the axle but it itself does not carry any of the stresses exerted on the rear wheel so cannot be damaged by such a knock.
  11. Try this site www.google.com ;-) There are a few 'how-to' articles floating about
  12. Tricks add to the difficulty
  13. Awesome!
  14. I replaced the Manitou Swinger on my bike with a Fox RP3 a while after buying it 4+ years ago. Fox is definitely the better performing shock. Not to mention the fact that I literally haven't touched the Fox in that time(bad bad bad I know but it just keeps going). The one service I had done on the Swinger before switching, came to R785! That was after it started leaking at 6 months old. The Swinger's DU bushes also seem to wear out much faster. (Note to self: service rear shock!)
  15. Nice!
  16. Cyclesure 50k R358
  17. I hope the warm and fuzzy feelings the owner gets for catching the thieves, make up for the damage to his car, because there's no way his insurance company will pay seeing as he drove into their car intentionally. Don't think he really thought things through before reacting.
  18. CL is one of the best looking modern Mercs. Very elegant lines and one of the very few times that Merc has gotten a cars proportions right. That in particular is not one of their strong points. I think this hides the design elements too much. And besides that it doesn't suite the nature of the car. Looks more like a cape flats lottery winner's wagon. But that's just me :-)
  19. I'm with Cassie
  20. Agreed. Sram has improved every brand they've bought.
  21. Independent Fabrication ONLY does handmade custom frames. AFAIK they don't even have standard sizes available. You have to provide your measurements and they work from there....the next factor is what you want to do with the bike...road, track, crit, CX....then, what sort of rider are you? Are you a big, muscular gorilla who mashes the pedals or a lightweight who likes to sit and spin. Every single part of the frame is considered....angles, tube lengths, tube diameters....they'll even use the same diameter tube from a different manufacturer if, in certain instances, they believe that manufacturer's tube offers different ride characteristics. An IF has been on my wishlist for years!
  22. Here's some more adviCe :-)
  23. Kenda Karma. I ride the 2.2. 2.0 is a bit small for my liking. Rolling resistance will be higher than Crossmarks but grip will be better in all conditions. In wet weather they shed mud really well. Basic square block design with big-ish gaps in between. One of the best all-round tyres available...IMHO.
  24. Interesting. I heard Specialized were holding out on the whole 29er thing until Conrad nagged them so much to make him one they gave in. Also, GFischer bike are cool and all, but their early 29ers handled like dogs. Maybe that's why they never took off. And this is not take 2. No offence intended, but this is just you being out the loop. The rest of us have been following the steady rise for years.
  25. Agreed on the drainage hole. Highly likely that's where it started. I'm praying my Moto Lite holds out. Mine's out of warrenty.
