  1. I’m on a plane somewhere above the Rockies at the moment, and I’m slowly trying to pull the pieces of my race together. For now, I’d like to let you know what the experience is like before and after the race. I’ll get to the experience of the race in the next post. Click here to view the article
  2. I’ve been on the big island for a week, and its quite clear that there is something brewing. We’re pretty fortunate to be staying on Ali’I Drive about 2 miles from the start. 3. So with more and more of us moving to structured training plans either with power meters on the bike or on the IDT, or even just using HRM. I thought it might be good idea and of assistance to find out how many free training plans there are out there to use with Trainingpeaks (TP). I have have been using TP for the last year and find the integration of automatic upload/sync with the likes of garmin and as such the ease of following workouts and checking performance and PMC numbers etc to be pretty beneficial in my training and fitness. Yes there are many plans you can buy via the trainingpeaks website, but if you look hard enough you can find free ones Especially as I see more and more hubbers saying I have X number of weeks before an event, what plan can I do to get fit... or a semblance of fitness for that event. Perhaps a structured training plan will help better. It is said that your are 2X more likely to succeed if you follow a structured training plan and as hubbers prefer to spend more on their bikes than on the fitness/training side... perhaps some free plans might be of assistance with the basic Athlete training account on TP. (which is also free) So to get the proverbial training going, here some links to free training plans: Cycling http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/affiliates/british-cycling/british-cycling-training-plans https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/cycling/tp-74350/road-stages-power-primer-new-power-meter-user-7-12-hours-per-week https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/cycling/tp-74712/tt-tri-stages-power-pacing-new-power-meter-user-4-9-hours-per-week https://www.trainingpeaks.com/affiliates/quarq-training-plans/?utm_source=FB_Post&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=FB_TrainingPeaks_Quarq_training_plan&utm_content=Quarq%20training%20plans%20in%20TrainingPeaks https://www.trainingpeaks.com/my-training-plans/rgtcycling Ebook needed for the stages plans https://support.stagescycling.com/en/support/solutions/articles/1000122756-ebook-trainingpeak-s-how-to-start-training-with-power- Triathlon http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/affiliates/british-triathlon/british-triathlon-training-plans http://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/affiliates/usa-triathlon/usa-triathlon-training-plans https://home.trainingpeaks.com/products/trainingplans/plans/15-week-pool-sprint-triathlon-plan-for-1st-timers?DCI=22&DSC=42 Use Code to get for free https://home.trainingpeaks.com/purchase/TP-111567 Running https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/running/10km/tp-109701/beginner-10k-plan-with-structured-workouts Sufferfest (a whole host of various plans) https://thesufferfest.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/333757054935-The-Sufferfest-APEX-Training-Plans-Now-Available-on-TrainingPeaks https://www.trainingpeaks.com/the-sufferfest.HTML Swimming https://www.trainingpeaks.com/affiliates/2017-triathlon-week-swim-training-plans/ Anyone found any other free TP plans whether cycling, triathlon, running, crossfit etc?? 20% Discount code for TP, 20BritishTri2020 (Just change the year accordingly) https://thesufferfest.com/pages/training-plans

  10. Hey Hubbers So my issue of the week is my TT set up. My bars are too low which is effecting my lower neck when trying to look forward. My stem is currently at 0 degree and I am reluctant to flip it purely because it wont look great! I have been searching for spacers for these bars and even looking into buying blank carbon bars which come with everything I could possibly need. The problem with importing goods is quality control, wrong sizes and if I need more. I have attached a picture of me on the bike, if anyone is a guru at set ups and can point me in the right direction of a solution that would be great! cheapest is always the best just not flipping the stem! haha Thanks Shane
  11. Hi there, I have a mountain bike that i use for training. However, I have recently entered a triathlon with a 90km cycle so I am looking for a Road/TT bike that I could hire for the event as well as use regularly (once a week) to get used to it? I've seen there are a few places in CT that offer for R300 a day but then I still need to get it to Stellenbosch so by the time I do the Triathlon I might as well have bought myself a new bike (the race is in September). Does anyone know a cheap place in Stellenbosch to rent a road bike, or is anyone themselves willing to lend/rent me their bike for two hours on a weekend to get some time in the saddle? Feel free to comment/PM Thanks! ps. I am quite tall (193cm) so a large or XL bike preferably

  15. Short and long: Will sheer willpower(and legpower) overcome the latest kit? What do you think, will I overtake any of the TT bikes at the CGT Triathlon Championships this upcoming Sunday the 10th in Germiston on my MTB? Some fact to consider: Bicycle: - 2006-ish Merida MTB Frame with Schwinn fork and basic componentry (Gearing 3x9) (Total cost back then came to about R4000) - 26-inch Slicks running at 3.0 Bar pressure - MTB SPD half cleat/ half platform pedals - MTB pedals - Total weight dry:17kg Personal info: 95kg 1.88m 5k run: 22:41 (Ran at Hartenbosh Parkrun Dec 2015) 10k run: 56:10 Castle Walk Fun Run 2015 (Hilly course) Momentum 94.7: 4h10 (Exact same bike setup) Discovery Duathlon 2015 Sprint: 1h46 I'm doing the Olympic Distance Duathlon race, I assume the course is shared as the starting time for the Duathlon and Triathlon are exactly the same. Still getting comfortable in the water so no Tri this time round. So..Place your bets, how many TT bikes will I claim on my MTB plonker....? If any?
  16. Have entered Ironman in April. I am looking for some people (possibly a group of ladies) to do some long training rides on a Sunday with. Am not the strongest cyclist on the world and most groups are either super fast or go out on a Saturday. Most of the cycling clubs don't cycle far enough (am needing about 4hrs) I am based in Westville but don't mind going up to Hillcrest or into Durban

  21. Hi All, I am asking your oppinions on a pair of Ironman 70.3 Racing wheels. I currently have Zipp 303's that were me old climbing wheels. I am decent on the bike I rode a 2:25 bike time at DURBAN 70.3 this year with shoe problems. I come from a national XC background so I'm quite strong on the bike. I'm looking for the perfect wheelset I am really keen on Disk rear and 808 front but I'm not sure for East Londons course. Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Other options would be 808 front and rear, 1080 rear 808 front? Anything like that. Worst case if the wind is terrible in east London I'll use my 303's anyway. Thanks so much, Matt 0833109074

  23. South African non drafting races have lots of complaints about big packs. Too many athletes on the course. Too small gaps between start waves. Too few referees. All explanations used to justify what is an athlete's decision to break the rules and cheat. IM Durban 70.3 seems to have taken drafting to new heights from the race reports. Referees will always struggle to enforce rules where the penalty is seen as not significant. Getting to recover for four minutes is obviously not harsh enough for athletes to choose to comply with the rules. I believe we need to create an attitude where every athlete chooses to obey the rules of the sport and loses the 'let see what I can get away with' approach. At Challenge Roth they pioneered a new penalty system for people caught drafting. It is called the "Fair Kilometer" Instead of sending an athlete to the penalty box for 8 minutes if he or she is given a black (drafting) card, the participants gets to combine a 5-minute penalty with an additional running penalty, This penalty is an additional 1km loop off the main course (read: loop of shame) and has to be done at kilometer 30 of the run course. Sounds like a very emphatic penalty to me. Something to be really afraid of. What do you think?
  24. Hi All Where is the best place to have a professional TT bike setup for triathlons? I am Cape Town based. Thanks
  25. Hi All I am sure this topic has been debated to death, but cant for the life of me track down a thread. With that said, I am looking for some advice regarding a bike I can use for 70.3 / Ironman and standard Olympic triathlons. I am not looking for a TT bike, but more a 'aero' bike with agents available in Cape Town. Thus far, I am considering the following 2: Scott Foil 20 Giant TCR Advanced 2 CompactBoth seem to be in the similar price range (20 - 24k) and offer similar aero frame designs. Perhaps any other bike I am not considering? Thanks in advance
