I hope to commute to work soon. First need to get fit as I have to go over Tiekiedraai. Don't know if its a good idea to start commuting in Winter however?

I commute to Durbanville regularly from Monte Vista and I also go over tiekies.

What time do you have to be at work and what time would you be leaving home?

I generally leave between 7am - 7h15 and takes me 40-45mins to get to work.

We could commute in together sometime to make it less boring.

I learnt that drying yourself with your underpants because you left your towel at home is a skill i still need to develop. although hopefully not very often. :)

Guys who crash their cars on the cycle route on payday weekend are never going to own up or clean up all their glass, carparts and beer bottles.

Be careful early in the morning over the weekend

Here in Germany an accident scene is completely cleaned up.  The most you will see afterwords is a sign warning you of possible oil on the road (never seen it yet) and maybe some tire marks on the tar.  No glass, no pieces of plastic, nothing.  When I was in SA I would be aware of tyre wear by all of a sudden getting regular punctures.  I have not had a puncture in since I arrived in Germany.

I still maintain that the towing company that tows the car away should be held responsible for cleaning up after the accident ... they are being paid to remove the car afterall ...even if they include a fee for this that is then in turn covered by the insurance company or if the person does not have insurance the person has to pay this fee.

Then if the accident is not cleared up, the towing company can be fined.

Always felt the same when I was in SA.  Not sure who cleans here.  I think the local municipality.

I have never learned anything FROM commuting, as what I DO KNOW from my normal social outings, is that I SHOULD NOT commute, unless I want to stink up the office with my excessive sweating...

[edit] - What I suffer from is broken-thermostat syndrome. I simply cannot cool down once I am warmed up, and will sit and percolate for well after I have ceased any exercise.

I first need to get fit again before ridding with anyone else. Sad to say that at the moment I will just hold you back. What bike do you commute with. I have done MTB for long now, but have not yet commute to work however I am super keen.

Tried...and failed.

My wife calls me her "kombersie" since I have a naturally high body temp.

Not so lekker for cycling though, especially when things start pointing UP.

For the last 15 minutes of my commute, I slow down and take it easy. That tells the body to start slowing down the sweating too. When I get to the office, I sit down, have a cup of coffee, eat breakfast......then only take a shower (the bath in a basin thing actually), a coolish one. By the time I get dressed, the sweating has stopped.

I am also a mess after a ride. Fortunately we have showers now. But in the past I would cycle 19km into Town then chill outside at a coffee shop before have a basin wash in the gents.

Any suggestions as to what I can do with my cold feet? Seriously, could only feel them once I got into a piping hot shower this morning.

Stylish fix? Neoprene booties over your cycling shoes.

Cheap fix? Put a pair of plastic shopping bags on over your socks, then put on shoes & cut the excess off. They are windproof and that makes a big difference. Works for rain too.
