I am beginning to form a theory about the colours that motorists take note of, and the colours that they outright ignore.

(Don't judge my fashion sense)

Today (clear and sunny) - red bike, white shoes, black socks, red and black shorts, mostly black shirt, and white helmet. Completely invisible to motorists.

Putting aside the fashion cacophony, I thought I would have been quite visible with the contrast of red, white and black.

My research will continue tomorrow...

Going home was no better. One of those fancy Range Rovers tried to turn in front of me. The situation was made worse because of the almost non existent indicators on that monstrosity. It was almost like dealing with a BMW driver...

you don't think they were gunning for you because you were wearing white shoes?

"You had better be good to wear white shoes. I don't even think it's legal to wear white shoes with unshaven legs. You need to check your local ordinances regarding this matter."

From here

Apart from being good, I think meet all those requirements ;)

Bit of background -

The taxis have gradually gotton more brazen in their disregard of the road rules ...  Been LOTS of complaints in the papers and on local radios, with repeated calls to the traffic department.

On Friday the traffic department clamped down and confiscated unroadworthy taxis, arrested drivers with outstanding fines - the normal stuff.

No surprise - today they hold a protest about "unfair prosecution" and "victimisation" ...

and just to make sure the message gets home, burn busses to make sure commuters are stranded.

Further back, and please correct me if I am wrong ............ the City offered a discount on outstanding fines (Taxis only) a little while ago and only wanted 60% of fines cost ... Taxi's did not like this and wanted all fines scraped, drivers in custody released, and all impounded Taxi's release ..... the City said thank you, but no thank you.

Interesting commute today .....

Today I came to work by car, same route that I normally cycle in the morning (I use a different route in the afternoon) - mostly no street lights, and before 6:00 it is still DARK !!

At 5:35 I encountered one cyclist/commuter along this dark route.

BACK - nice bright slow flashing red light - VERY VISIBLE !

Front - bright front light, ON (not flashing), again very visibly

What got my attention, or should I say got me thinking - my car lights were on DIM, thus NOT shining onto his bright yellow jacket.  Without light shining onto the jacket it was no more visible than any other dark jacket - not until light shines onto it.

Make sure you have high-viz and/or reflective items LOW down - to catch the light when cars are using lights on DIM setting.
