Some advice needed:

I’ve always had 3 Rotties, as one passed I bought another. Until a few months ago I had a male aged 10 and 2 girls ages 5 and 6.

I had to put Julius down few months ago, so only the girls left. The eldest is VERY temperamental with strangers although docile with people she knows. The younger one is ver loving but can’t stand small dogs

(Parents in law pug and foxy both have the scars to prove it).

So maybe not the best environment to introduce another puppy? Also if the 2 girls move on in 7 years then I have only 1 (lonely) dog? Maybe get 2 puppies now? Team dynamics with 4 dogs? And get females or a dominant male puppy?

I’m 48 so also don’t want to het a dog when I’m 55 and then when I retire and downscale it may be a problem.

What do you guys reckon?

Can't have too many dogs...

And the more energy YOU have when you've got puppies the better...

Huge difference between small dogs and puppies. Puppies learn they way and find their place in the pack. Small dogs think they own the place and (rightfully) get told they don't.

I got Xander (the Schnauzer) at 1 yrs old a few months ago. Leeu the Ridgeback is 4 years old. It took us about a week (us being myself and Leeu) to make Xander understand that he cannot snap at Leeu, and that he is in fact not the leader of the pack.

You (the owner) are the leader of the pack. You need to make the new dog understand this by being calm and assertive.

You can pretty much introduce any dog into your pack. Have them meet on neutral ground. Then go for a walk. The fact that this walk is in neutral territory will make a big difference to the introduction vs. bringing the new dog into the older dog's territory.

Each case is different of course, and some dogs take more work than others, but it is definitely doable.

Here Xander and Leeu are taking a snooze after we went for a nice long walk:

Ricky was ill yesterday.. I got home.from work and was told that he had thrown up a few times.. went looking for him and he was just lying there..in the rain, he was also hot to the touch.. .. of course rushed him to the vet ..vet said a viral infection and gave him 3 injections.. by last night he was a bit better but spent the most of the day sleeping.. poor thing the muti really knocked him out..

Today he was back to his normal self..one pic of him sleeping after his visit to the vet and then today after he had been walk-abouts.. back to hogging the bed..poor Lucy..she is only allowed a little bed.
