Lol of course they are.. and our Logan was a retriever.. why I typed Lab I donno..[emoji1787][emoji190]..will add retriever to my post.

Awesome that they have a loving home.

The Labradors' full name is Labrador Retriever. (Arguably the best hardiest working pure retriever)

The other specialist retrievers are:

Golden Retriever (The smart Blonde, beauty with brains, cuddly and cute too)

Flat Coated Retriever (Great working dogs, but quite scarce)

Curly Coated Retriever (Great working dogs, but quite scarce)

Chesapeake Bay Retriever (The strongest, toughest never say die worker, but often hard headed)

All of them have been bred to be extremely biddable and eager to please. Also, they focus very strongly on their owners / handlers / humans and bond strongly. They are intelligent and make very good companions for humans of all ages. They all have floppy ears to reduce the report of a shotgun (built in earmuffs). They all have a strong instinct to pick things up and carry / fetch. They all love chewing things (beware). They all have very thick waterproof coats to protect them in icy water. They all swim very well and often love water. They all are in some way related to an ancient breed (of various names but often called the Portuguese Water Dog) used by fisherman to swim and collect things that fell off boats, tackle, fish etc.

Ps I know it is not at all important, just see it as my bit of useless information sharing for the day.

After two operations to repair a ruptured cruciate ligament and 5 weeks of rehab the Hooligan is clear to come home this weekend.  It's been quite traumatic as she was an abused rescue, and doesn't like kennels at all but we didn't really have a choice - had to keep her restrained.

So a bit of feedback - all went extremely well until Christmas day when the other leg gave in.  We feared the worst and managed to get an appointment with a specialist who took x-rays on the 28th.  Luckily and it's a big luckily too because the specialist wasn't very optimistic, it was all just because of overuse of the one leg while favoring the other.  Anyway, long story short, another month of rest, lots of PetCam, and some special Collagen power combined with Joint Formula Hills and we have a happy dog again.  She won't ever jump again, and stairs are a bit of a challenge, but after preparing ourselves for the worst, at least she's comfortable again.  On the food - it was too much of a mission to try and separate each of the two dogs meals (they end up eating each others anyway) so our other dog also gets special food and collagen - the difference in his (and her) coats are amazing and he's also now got a ton more energy.  I reckon when we get our next rescue given that you never know what nutrients they had growing up, I'll probably go with the special joint food from the start.

Jock Jr: Good morning, my name is Jock Jr, Demon Dog, and I was wondering if you might be interested in joining our Church of the Holy Pork Crackling?

Mouse: What the f... are these? Are they lunch?

White kitten: Ugh. Too close.

Black kitten: A dog touched me! Now I have COOTIES!

My sis rescued these two. Jock really wanted to keep them. Mouse wasn't sure why snacks were allowed to run around willy-nilly.f0f1cd7b03cfc40d985e69ba4f4b6135.jpg62c6c3d8ca4c8183dc85d51deee6a2d8.jpg1b7c69a190300b40fc508234e47f2869.jpg1dd16edbe3e1fff396179d0201a72759.jpg

Does anybody know how to catch a stray cat with 3 kittens?

For a wild feral, phone the SPCA or such and ask them to come and do it with a cage. Otherwise you end up all bloody with bite marks and scratches and you lie awake at night thinking about rabies. Phone SPCA!

You need to go to you closest SPCA and hire the cage, R500 deposit and R10 per day. They will not come out for feral cats. I caught all 4 at work this way, cage with food works well. I left the deposit as a donation................

Remember my cousin deciding that one of the kittens from the farm cats would be a great present for his girlfriend, got worked over 6 love while trying not to fall into the silage pit  Alternate plans were made.

There are very few things as vicious as a cat that doesn't want to be caught. Welding gloves and a fencing outfit will not get you off without a few gouges! Maybe a bomb disposal suit will? But then you'll be too slow anyway so you won't get anywhere near it.

Your other bet is to get catwoman in to talk to the cat....... I'm married to catwoman btw. That's how I know all this stuff. I'm a dog person.......but that's a long story........and makes for an interesting life (opposites attract and all that)!

Anybody have advice on large-breed puppy feeding, from 5-6 months onwards?  What are your monsters chomping? Our chomper is FINALLY catching up and growing like a bomb.

M'lord's Royal Canin Junior obviously suits him, but I'm wondering what experience/advice people have?

Any of you take your pups for a trail run? and how did you go about training your dog for a trail run?

I thought this was an interesting write up:

https://trailmag.co.za/trail-dog-running/

and when I saw that the Africanis is in the list of good trail dogs, that made my day. As some of you know, we have an Africanis puppy.
