Seriiously, if I wish to ride without without a helmet thats my decision. Not hurting anyone else - nothing to do with anybody else. Why is it an issue for you? You may think its stupid - it probably is. However that doesnt mean you can make an issue of it. Its still my choice. Having spent a good few years living in a nanny state (England) I know what its like when "health and safety nazis" take over and squeeze all the fun out of life.

Its against the law ... like drunk driving.

Sadly though its always the ones who are left behind to deal with someone's death who suffer, not the person who died....

Life is too short for the 'If only he had...."

Did anyone see that James Craknell guy who was cycling in America and got nailed by a trucks mirrors? You never know when something is going to happen and sometimes its not the fall that messes you up...

Actually its nothing like drunk driving. Drunk driving puts other people at serious risk. Not wearing a bicycle helmet doesnt.

Well - now that I have everyones back up (except the mtb'ers)... :whistling:

This morning at 07:00 whilst driving home from squash - I rode past some roadie probably in his 50's riding on Michelle Avenue (JHB South) which is a very busy road - WITHOUT a helmet!!

I think he's mad - does he not hear about all the cycling deaths or perhaps he thinks he is taxi / car / bus / truck proof..??..

How is this your problem?

How many mothers have you moaned at recently driving with their kids not buckled up?

i would say the point is - in a game of squash only you and your opponent see if you are wearing safety glasses. An adult riding on a public road advertising to all and sundry that its ok to ride without a helmet is a plonker in my book too.

There is a chap here in maritzburugh who also rides without a helmet - he is very friendly, but i have told him he is not setting a very good example

Hope you also speak to the taxis for setting a bad example

If only the government put as much effort into banning pineapples on pizzas as they do trying to outlaw smoking, the world would be a much better place.
