The MTBer Posted June 14, 2017 Share http://recon-racks.com/Just a random question, what are the SA Road rules about something standing out so far behind a car that don't have lights or plates. My old man told me that the old rules were that it may not stick out more than 0.5m unless it's an emergency and have a red vlaggie. I also eyed one of those racks, but you can only use them on a bakkie, because my Merc towbar can't hold the weight and it will push the rear of my car down like a sootskraper on the road. Just curious about the rules, but that aside I personally think it is better and easier than A Thule rack.

This does mean that I am sure if you were driving a VW transporter LWB it would be legal, and if you were driving a Corsa it would not be.... Edit - and lights and plates are mandatory Edited June 14, 2017 by V12man

Bizkit031 Posted June 16, 2017 Share Are there any shops in SA that stock the Giro Swichblade helmets? From the official site, Omnico is listed as the distributor. I enquired from them but the reply was to get from overseas. Great Be prepared to cook in it,it's not vented enough for SA.

They are solid, had some hectic falls this year and these saved me each time. O, and they are comfortable. I forget they are there and climb into the car and knock the dash, which is when I remember. I also pedal with them on. Traveler

Good fox XC/Trail loops. But in my experience they did not last long enough. The stitching around the 'pad' came loose after 2 months or so with almost no crashing and they don’t offer any real protection against hard knocks on rocks, roots, tree stumps etc. Leatt 3DF Hybrid: I've not had these very log but so far I am happy with them. They can feel bulky at first but they so sit comfortably. They can get hot on warm days and on longer rides though which is why I only use them mainly for DH and when doing Enduro's on really rocky terrain. Will I use them for trail riding or longer rides? No. But they do have a huge amount of protection though and feel indestructible. IXS Flow: The best pads I've owned so far. About 2.5 years old and still going strong. Incredibly comfortable. Can wear them all day long. The have a decent amount of protection and they have definitely saved my knees a couple of times. Only downside is that the XmatterTM protection foam (the actual pad, similar to the Leatt 3DF stuff) hardens up on really cold mornings. I will happily wear these for anything form XC loops, to full on Enduros all day long. Will I buy a pair again? Hell yes!

Had a few different pads from the light weight (and very average G-Forms) through different 3Do type trail / enduro pads and some heavier hitting gravity ones. To be honest the pair that I still have and are still my 'go to' pads are the 661 Kyle Strait ones. Good enough to ride in all day, decent protection where you need it, great fit, not too sweaty and just won't die. Yeah you have to take your shoes off to put them on but I'm good with that. If they do give up I'll be looking at the IXS Flow for some good protection as all their products have been great. I tend to wear a back pack most of the time and ship my pads in that until I start the fun part and then leave them on all day.
