Hi,

I'm visiting from New Zealand and after doing SanI2c thought I'd do well getting my bike serviced. I took it to a well-known chain in Westlake and was very disappointed. The gears needed to be reset after the service, the socks were sagging, although the mechanic claimed he didn't touch them and the brakes may as well have not existed, because he 'cleaned' them with what seemed to be an oil-based solution. He tried to make these issues my problem by telling me 1. I shouldn't ride with my xtr shadow clutch on and 2. I should 'warm up' my brakes, which would dissolve the oil. What a crock. When i get a major service i expect the mechanic to know about the technology and to be able to ride the bike, not re-service it myself.

brakes i can clean myself (what is the crap hr would have put on them anyway?) and the shifting is sorted, but my shocks (29er Fox Floats) are still sagging and i have another race this weekend.

Can anyone suggest a good shop around Cape Town (I'm in Kalk Bay, but don't mind a small travel for a fantastic service) who wouldn't disappoint me and would be able to service Fox?

Thanks!

Morning and welcome.

In town CBD you can go to Revolution Cycles or, if you don't mind the extra travel, you can go to my ever-favorite Cycle Factory in Montague Gardens. (Do not go to that same well-known chain in Cape Town!)

Fox agents are in CT as well, but you will have to work through a shop.

But Marc isn't the guy servicing your bike, don't get me wrong he's a great guy, find myself only leaving the shop after an hour because Marc and I are having a fat chat (having just gone in to buy something small) but at end of the day the mechanic servicing your bike needs to know what he's doing and a few times bikes have come back with gearing that needs adjusting and not a great clean and lube job done.

IMHO Crown Cycles just down the road do a great job, small dedicated shop and mechanic knows what he's doing.

If you are in a stick and need the fork done well and fast ... then Stoke suspension and Shane at Bowmans Cycles can sort you out and sort you out well!

Marc at Crown Cycles ph:0216716382 Near Claremont. If you phone him first tell him what you need and he will help you 100%. I never have to take my bike back to him for "stuff he missed" He is a great guy.

I second that.
